There are some great documentaries on this operation. Interesting you guys went with a CCRP method drop when during the operation they did a pop up maneuver and CCIP drop. Lots of good hud footage from that mission. Also one of the biggest risks they took was dropping their fuel tanks after depleted because it risked colliding with the bombs.

There is a great book Bullseye One Reactor which has first hand discussions with some of the pilots. Also General Dynamics didn't believe that the F-16A could fly that far with that payload and as you stated no-one knew if dropping the tanks would work... and they did a 60 degree dive bomb if I remember correctly...
