This is just a personal technique suggestion, but I like to de-clutter the stationary gunsight by pulling the lever down that’s sitting on the left side of the gunsight housing. Can’t remember what it’s called but it removes all of the rings and just shows the small gun cross. That makes following the moving gunsight much easier to read, but you still have bore sight indication from the small cross. This increased my accuracy quite a bit...although it more than likely doesn’t help EVERYONE...
@JorgeHFJ

Yeah! I know what you mean. It surely can help others to aim better! I personally prefer showing both, the gyro and fixed. For those not familiar with the P51's gunsight, it can show three different reticles: a fixed reticle, a moving gyro reticle (which compensates your movement in relation to the target) and show both. Thank you for sharing! =D

Thank you very much and I agree with you, Christian Nelson made a pretty good analysis of the video! Regarding the emergency landing, I'm also not sure... I believe that I was shot, maybe by flak. You can see some flak puffs on 7:17, top left. Maybe I forced the engine.... but usually, when the engine is burned, the propeller gets stuck... Or maybe it was a random failure (if they are enabled). The ideal is the look at the track's log, the problem is... finding it! Hehehehehehehe

@@JorgeHFJ Your tactics reflect what veteran pilots have explained on the History Channel series "Dogfights", especially your work on the deck and coming in close, leading fire. Thanks for the show!
@ChristianNelsonn
@ChristianNelsonn 6 жыл бұрын
You start firing way too early. Most WW2 fighters have their bullet convergence points set at 200m. You enter the approximate wingspan size of your target using the dial below your gunsight then hold your fire until the wings of your target fill the arms of the reticle. That gives you 200m and that's when you should fire. Anything further away and you're wasting ammo. These targets fly way too gently and so do you. A dogfigt shouldn't last more than 4 seconds once in gun range even in a hard manuvering fight. One more note to bear in mind is that the P-51 is an energy fighter, however you seem to use it as a turn fighter. Use boom and zoom tactics, conserve your energy and only fire within 200m of the target. A one second burst of deflection shot is all you need to despatch these targets. I would advise bumping the difficulty level of these bots to actually be a challenge for you. Otherwise you don't learn and your videos look like leisurely Sunday cruises.
@JorgeHFJ
@JorgeHFJ 6 жыл бұрын
Ohh yeah! I try to use the the gyro gunsight always I can, but sometimes I find it difficult to correct the distance during the dogfight (the wingspan settings is always set on approx 33 ft, which will be fine for fw190 and the bf109). Every time that I didn't adjusted the distance on the gunsight I have to guess where the bullets will go... If the enemy is bigger (closer) than the reticle, I need to shoot above the reticle and below it the enemy is smaller (further). I totally agree with the boom and zoom tactic for the P51, specially if it is on high altitude... I would love some high altitude action, bu everyone fly very low on multiplayer. Sometimes, depending on the opponent (like the Fw190) I can outmaneuver them with the P51. However, a turn fight with a Bf 109 is certain death! Regarding the comment about bots, the video was recorded on Burning Skies and ACG servers, so every plane is a player. Thanks for the comment, it was a very good analysis! =D

go back to war thunder noob. The p-51 carries more than enough ammo. 1,840 total rounds (380 rounds for the inner two .50 cals , and 270 rounds for each of the outer two pair) Your comment reads more like a preteen padding his ego by smelling his own farts than anything worth noting.

Dogfights don't last 4 seconds often at all. 4 seconds is when the other guy had no clue you were there. AI are freaking spaceships at the moment. I'd fly out on multiplayer and practice against real players. AI is only for aiming practice, not fighting.

Nice video. What kind of FPS are you getting just out of interest? My system is an i7 4790k 16gb ram and MSI gaming X 1070. I get anywhere from 45 to 80 FPS low level and up to 145 FPS at altitude.... such a spread in FPS. KIND of annoying at time as I seem to spend more time looking at the frame counter rather than enjoying the game. Not really noticed a performance stutter as such so I try and run the game with the counter off.

Oh, I know what you mean... FPS can be a pain on DCS! What worked best for me was turning on V-sync. This way my FPS is locked on 60... and it stays like this most of the time. When I see some drops, it is something like... 2 or 4 fps.

Hi JorgeHFJ. Listen, how do you manage your engine? I have TF-51 since i have DCS (as everybody has) but, during a normal pleasure flight, if i don't manage my engine with carburetor air controls (especially at high altitudes), my engine stops and there's no way to restart it, forcing me to eject. When i do such a flight, usually i don't stress too much my engine, but, from your side and watching those dogfights from you with P51, there are spins, rolls, quick increases of power and everything we want on a dogfight. And your engine seems still good after stressing it! So my real question to you is: what do you do to maintain your engine up and fully operational during a dogfight? I was thinking about to buy the Mustang now which is on sale. I've not read the whole manual yet, but i would like have a WWII aircraft and the Mustang would be my candidate. I would like Normandy Map too to get everything more similar to WW2 times, but is not so used on multiplayer and it's a different thing in this moment.

Hey mate! This engine failure happened to me several times! You need to pay attention to your RPM and Manifold Pressure gauges all the time. Look at the right side of the cockpit, there is a plate with "Engine Limitations". It has the numbers you need for each gauge. =D The gauges also have some green arcs to represent the "safe" operation. But you can stay at 46 MP and 2700 RPM continuously. I hope it helps! o7
@EagleFulcrum1
@EagleFulcrum1 5 жыл бұрын
Ok, so, nothing more? I'll try to explain my situation. I usually do take offs at about 50 manifold pressure gauge. Once in the air, (obviously, gear up), i reduce my RPM from max to about 2600, so really close to the green zone. Now, i reduce the throttle to about 40 manifolds or similar. At this point i start my climb with a small pitch angle. In the first time, while i was reaching 10k ft. (even less, 9k ft. about), my engine stopped suddenly, blocked. In that occasion i'm jumped out. No way to restart (i suppose). In the second time, (same heading, from Sochi to Kutaisi in the Caucasus Map), i have reached my destination, but i have managed my engine really really much times with the carburetor air controls (and never touching my throttle to increase power). And it's not the only one thing, because, always during the flight, my coolant temperature, my carburetor temperature and my Oil Temperature, Fuel, and Oil Pressure Gauge (that indicator with three values) doesn't remain on the green zone. One goes up, one goes down....ecc. Managing my carburetor air controls, i have reached kutaisi, but that was just a normal pleasure flight. During a dogfight there are more stressing factors. So, if i have killed my engine without stressing it (just a leveled flight), how would it be if a try to do some dogfight maneuvers? Really, once to kutaisi, i was scared to do some aerobatics, because i had no trust on my engine. And that was the TF-51. The P-51 has weapons, is heavier and so on. So it could be even worse. I thought the engine was the same. I'm sorry for a so long explanation. (P.S. i have reached 30k ft. after my destination, but always managing my engine, else, there was no way to reach that altitude).

@@EagleFulcrum1 I don't think you're swapping fuel tanks. I think you have a fuel starvation problem, not an engine problem. You need to switch between your fuel tanks every once in a while to keep the fuel balanced and to make sure you don't run out of fuel in a tank and kill the engine.

do you have to lead or not when using the gyro?
@JorgeHFJ
@JorgeHFJ 2 жыл бұрын
No and yes, but let me explain... In ideal conditions, once you adjust your gyro correctly, you don't need to lead to hit your target. However, any deviation from this ideal condition should be compensated by leading the target. For example, while dogfighting, your target might be getting closer or further away and sometimes you don't have time to adjust that. In such cases, leading is required. Although, the leading is way smaller than the one you need when not using a gyro. I hope it helped. o7
@Thomaaasooo
@Thomaaasooo 6 жыл бұрын
why didn't you check your fuel status? i did not hear you getting hit and the engine failure happend in the exact same manner as with an empty fuel tank. furthermore your fuel pressure was zero. If the engine driven pump was hit, you should still get some pressure from the electric booster pumps of the internal tanks.

Is it just me or is the damage modelling not realistic on DCS and IL2 and ROF?? Wings seems to pop off so easily... engines burst into flames with a few hits. Is this realistic? Am I missing something? I always like the idea of dogfights that continue in exchanges of hits, and pilots having to limp beaten up planes back home... but perhaps reality is more brutal than that. Any knowledge on this?
@JorgeHFJ
@JorgeHFJ 6 жыл бұрын
It is a really good question... and also pretty difficult to answer. But, I would say that I'm more inclined to think that it is realistic. After all, when fighting, these machines are on the edge of their performance and any structural failure/damage can lead to catastrophic consequences... So, wings coming off and burning engines should be very common. I might be wrong, but that is how I see it. o7
@gypsytheif
@gypsytheif 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your response! I think you're right that it's hard to know how a plane is meant to fall apart... because they're not meant to fall apart, and I hadn't even thought of the stress the planes were under even before being peppered with bullets. It must be hard to model damage in simulators like these. Also I now have IL-2 CLoD Blitz and I have to say that if i can even get rounds on target it's only a few, and it doesn't seem to do much... so my OP about videos I see on youtube of planes falling apart are clearly of experienced players who know how to get all of their rounds in critical parts of the target... this is a big difference too

gypsytheif Cliffs of Dover (Blitz edt) has an extremely complex firing simulation that results on a very difficult aiming/shooting. This and the more detailed damage model only makes, in my opinion, for a more realistic experience than DCS.
@Red-Magic
@Red-Magic 5 жыл бұрын
DCS is far more of a simulation than IL-2. IL-2 sits between DCS and War Thunder. At present, IL-2 has a more complete damage model. However, pretty soon it will get a massive overhaul, and it's looking pretty damn complex. Not sure how it will be optimized for FPS.
