On the weekends, late night when the traffic is less, I always go out for a drive with my wife and she always sticks out of the sunroof. I drive slow and cover a large part of the city. It's so fun.

This convertible top is not all that easy to remove and refit. It is deceptive. The side panels removal is ok as far as the Velcro parts are concerned. But undoing the zip when it is quite wet outside and the zip is stiff, can be a pain. Then putting it back on, finding the zip lead runner and inserting it and then zipping it on is also not that easy. Also, the front locks sitting behind the sun visors are also sometimes a bit stiff and one needs to use just a bit of force. I tried this two weeks ago in the showroom along with a showroom executive and it was drizzling and chilly outside and it took us some ten to fifteen minutes to achieve the entire removal and replacement process. I am not sure how much fun this will be to remove and replace the convertible top once the soft top ages a bit and is exposed to the constant sun, dust, rain, muck, road grime, slush and such things which are so much a part of our daily life in India. Over time I am very sure the clear plastic or poly window areas will cloud over and get scratched and dirty. And they will also become a pain. It looks cool and very desirable and all. But personally I am not very sure of it in our standard Indian conditions. Because conscientious maintenance of this is absolutely necessary if it is to be preserved. My take would be that if they would have allowed a half roof on the hard top,by way of allowing the front portion of the roof panel to be easily removed so as to give the front driver and passenger at least, the open air feel, that would have been very nice. Like in the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler. All said and done the hard top is much more practical in India. Also from a security perspective.

I respect you opinion but I find it quite ok after 2 times of use. The zippers are very easy although we need to put force to hook those plastic locks on windows to make the car water proof which is also a matter of understanding the process. Regarding aging of the fabric roof and rear plastic windows, I am sure, these are not expensive items and can be changed every 2 years if needed. Nothing is perfect, its just that, what fits our use case.

@@DCVExpeditions you’re probably right. However I found easing the panels back into those slider slots also to be a bit difficult. Possibly that my fingers were a bit wet and chill because of the chilly drizzle. Thing is these are practical daily use issues which many owners will encounter. Even I almost went with my heart and booked this convertible but then a sense of practicality prevailed and I booked the hard top instead. I’m still waiting for mine. Which will probably come in Feb.

10 to 15 minutes for removal and replacement?? Thats quick. My concern is, when it rains, does the water seep inside? Is the top water tight? And when we turn on the AC, how's the cooling? I'm sure the top won't be airtight. So the AC should have a tough time in cooling the car.

@@nasdoc1 I’m told that they did encounter some leaky convertibles but the issue has been fixed. Mahindra indeed had proactively called owners to get a water shower on their Thar’s to check it any roofs were leaking. The convertible is made of a very good quality rugged poly canvas rib stop type of material. I don’t think there is any durability issue here. It is also a pretty snug fit. And not full of loop holes like the older generation Thar’s and MM540’s and all had. Hence I don’t think there is any loss of energy efficiency in terms of ac cooling.
