Parts of India are reeling under a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring as high as 46 degrees Celsius in many areas. The scorching heatwave has led to concerning incidents, including a Doordarshan anchor fainting on air while reporting live updates on the heatwave in West Bengal.
The anchor stationed at the Kolkata branch of Doordarshan, Sinha, recounted her experience in a Facebook post, explaining that she had been feeling unwell before the broadcast. Despite attempting to continue after drinking water, she fainted due to the intense heat and a malfunctioning cooling system in the studio.
Men rushed to her aid as she fainted, splashing water on her face to revive her. Sinha apologized to her channel for the mishap and urged viewers to take care of themselves amid the scorching heat, emphasizing the importance of staying hydrated.
In another development related to Doordarshan news, DD News unveiled its new official logo, changing its color from ruby red to saffron. While the channel emphasized that its values remain the same, former Prasar Bharti CEO and TMC MP Jawhar Sircar questioned the timing of the logo change, alleging political bias. Sircar criticized the channel for seemingly aligning with the BJP, as saffron is associated with the party.
DD News clarified that only the color of the logo has changed, maintaining that its content remains impartial. However, the move has sparked criticism, with some accusing the channel of bias towards the ruling party.
The controversy surrounding the logo change highlights the delicate balance between neutrality and political influence in media organizations. As public debate ensues, opinions remain divided on whether DD News's rebranding signifies a political stance or merely a visual update.
