you can also do a ridgeline setup, and run another line under the tarp using prussic knots and then attach the pyramid top toggle to the line. This means you don't need the hiking pole inside the tent. It feels a lot more spacious without it.

DD sent me here with query of a mosquito tent to use with my 3x3 tarp. Fantastic! Just what I’m looking for thanks.

This is the most helpful bug net/tarp setup I’ve ever seen. I like the way you describe everything and provide just enough rationale to really educate beginners as well as be helpful to more advanced hikers. This is an amazing video!! The one outstanding question I have is, what if the bug net mesh tent is the kind that has one straight up wall and sloped side wall (see the six moon designs “Serenity Net Tent” - I think it’s called a HALF pyramid) and a rectangle tarp? I am really having a tough time with it. I have a 6’ x 8’ silnylon tarp and a 8’ x 10’ silnylon tarp. Spent all day yesterday working on it and still haven’t found a one-pole or even two-pole solution.

Excellent configuration. Was pleasantly surprised by how well that worked. Something I would like to try out. Many thanks 👍Ben

With the combination of the pyramid mesh tent and the 3x3 tarp, you almost have a 4 season setup. When the weather gets bad, you can just use the tarp. In fact you can do a pyramid configuration. 😁

Hi Simon...I messaged you regarding the A frame from DD but ended up purchasing the Pyramid instead...it works a treat with the 4x4 tarp once you've got it nicely under tension with extra pegs. Great video...thanks. Paul

Yeah you'll have to pull those guy lines out a LOOOOOOONG way for a 4x4 tarp, but assuming you have the space, that'll work just fine. Alternative: pitch your tarp so that the side of the tarp running along the opening side of the Pyramid Mesh Tent has its guylines connected to the side tapes one BACK from the corners... then pitch the front at a more severe angle down to the ground closer to the tent. This gives you additional wind and rain protection on the entry side, and more an enclosed, HIGHER, "porch" area in front of the tent entrance :)

Packed To Live Thank you! I will have a go at pitching it like that....☺

Very interested in seeing this 4x4 option as looking for a way of using a tarp in pyramid tent fashion but with a full size inner mesh if needed. Anyone got any pictures? Looking for the most flexible multi use gear. The tarp comes in so lightweight and can be used in so many ways but I'm looking for a mountain weather and bug suitable configuration. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Cool, this one seems a little less faff and faster set up time than the a-frame model

Love the simplicity and efficiency of this set up but the pyramid mesh tent in my opinion is a little short. I'm 6ft and could do with this being 2.2 m in length. great tutorials though, simple yet comprehensive. Thanks..

I agree with you that it could stand to be a little taller, though I will at least concede that DD designed these as "superlight" tents, which means you trade off some degree of comfort for the benefit of a smaller, lighter pack size.

I just bought the XL pyramid mesh - 240x180 good for me at 6’1

Now, all you need, is the actual pyramid tent rainfly... That setup is perfect for summer use, but you'd freeze your ass off from late September through May...

Hi Simon. Thanks for this video. I have a 3x3 dd Tarp and this mesh tent is a great idea. Do you think I would need a groundsheet or is the bottom of the mesh tent strong enough? Also, could the tent perform in snowy conditions when you extend the pole so the tarp angle could easily shed snow? Thanks again for this great idea. Cheers’ Fab

Hi Simon, one more question if I may. Do you fold your tarp or do your stuff your tarp in your bag? Fab

Would you recommend this tent for a 5'9" person or would you go for the xl tent? Cheers!
