I could imagine something like gear that was leveled down by a reset costs less to upgrade. Or make an ancient power bonus for making upgrades cheaper.

An easier way would be to have multiple accounts and have them all farming plain motes. 4x6=24 motes per 2-3 rounds.

This doesn't seem to be the case anymore as I just got 9 in one map and they dropped in random waves, sometimes all on the last wave.

yeah they don't drop any more. They are now set rewards from the victory chest

You can only get 5 motes per map from the first 3 waves, maybe it’s more on Chaos 7 about for everything else it’s just 5

essentially yes, restart after you get to 5 motes for that map.

the best solution which i keep telling them is to just let high level mats be used for low level upgrades because in a standard run through the lower tiers you get about 1.8 items upgraded per tier and as you get higher in AP it becomes more important to keep good relics that you crafted and combined with the games other systems designed to prevent you sitting in low tier content over and over it makes no sense why they then added another system that keeps you trapped there

oh ya, there hasn't been a game changing update to DD2 in several years. Not worth though imo, you are better off just completing the maps.
