Check out World Anvil here! worldanvil.com/?c=D4 Use the promo code d4 at checkout to save 51%! Also! I guess you could call this Errata: Technically, yes, you could get a higher crit chance by going Champion Fighter to level 15, where, with Elven Accuracy, you'd be at almost 39% chance to crit. But yeah, then you'd be a Champion Fighter 15, unfortunately ;). I should have qualified my statement about 27% being the "best" by saying "the best by early/mid game" or "the best without gimping yourself with too many Fighter levels" or something :). Also! Lucky would, yes, increase your crit chance even further! (As many have mentioned) Don't know why I so often forget about Lucky. Maybe because it's banned at so many tables...

Like the bun! I recently found out that Hexblade's Curse works with all damage rolls. "You gain a bonus to damage rolls against the cursed target." Which means that spells like spike growth would gain loads more damage if you build for it. You could argue that it only works if you cause the damage. Well, what if you're the one who cast the spell and you're the one moving them around? I'd say that's you causing the damage.

Really liked this build. Also gotta appreciate all the ways you have to get advantage. Vow of Enmity to have guaranteed advantage on an enemy, Trampling charge from the Warhorse to potentially knock prone (admittedly more likely at early levels but still good), Tides of Chaos and Steady Aim for some more situational advantage, and also the optional Trip Attack and Shadow Blade for a few more ways to gain advantage. Yeah, you only really need one way to get advantage, but having more just makes it more consistent (while also allowing for some mini bursts later in the combat), and it’s nice to see that.

I love love love this build so much. My take on it that I commented on a previous vid was a dual wielding vengeance 6, champion 3, and AT 5 with a focus on capping out rogue levels as my progression (I went arcane trickster because I wanted to cap out my charisma on rogue 10 and didn't really have room for sorcerer as a result. I may have overvalued evasion and also hadn't played a paladin before and wasn't sure how to manage smite slots vs round over round dpr so the increased sneak attack damage was perhaps overvalued in my eyes.) In hindsight, this build could have benefitted from oathbreaker 7 over vengeance for more reliable dpr despite feeling worse for crit fishing at lower levels while still reaching all the potential breakpoints at 20. Also the shadow blade tech would have felt reeeeeally good on this character because we were constantly in caves and the like. The hexblade version of this build I've been kicking around looks much more like a turn 2 burst build candidate as well as being much more defensive with shield and the like, but it relies much much more on building up to being an immensely powerful character rather than just having those things at earlier levels. I think the ideal set-up is rogue 1 (or pally 1 for heavy armor), hexblade 2, oathbreaker 7 which means no extra attack until level 8. Then you are highly incentivized to go bladelock 3 for the pact weapon for your offhand and now you have the difficult choice of whether you want action surge or to try and cap out at warlock 12 for lifedrinker or to pivot and go for the sorcerer or bard route while picking up action surge somewhere along the way. This also begs the question of why take rogue at all. My hunch is that the warlock levels are better because you cap charisma much earlier and get access to double smiting, 4d8 shadow blade, and smite slots that refresh on short rest, but sorcerer getting BA booming blade is worth a look for a sword and board pivot.

If you wanna do a pally build that counts the mounts damage I've gotta pitch the Dark Rider again. Oath breaker X 1 level hex blade 1 level order cleric. If you make your steed a fiend it also benefits from your aura of hate and with order domain cleric any time you share a spell with your steed it can make free reaction attacks. On top of that you could use mounted combat for a source of semi consistent advantage and if you can manage to pick up enlarge reduce you can get advantage against large creatures too. Also those free reaction attacks can trigger trampling charge if done after moving 20 feet giving you an extra shot at a bonus action attack meaning your warhorse could get 3 attacks on a turn. Food for thought

Critting is fun! Thanks for a fun build progression, Colby. I think I might be tempted, in practice, to take Fighter 4 at level 10 to pick up the Lucky feat. Turning disadvantage into super advantage when needed would be phenomenal - and could be triggered at will on your first combat round by simply stating that you close your eyes when you attack! ;-) edit: Or, since Vow only grants advantage one target, you can save your Lucky/blinded triggers to grant super advantage against another opponent, as needed.
@mjust71196 ай бұрын
The new Squire of Solamnia feat, given as part of the Knight of Solamnia background, gives advantage pbxpd, +1d8 damage, and is only expended IF you hit. With this, I probably would go hexblade 5 first, maybe only pally 2. Edit: that last bit was silly to say. It would be a different build without vengeance, I just had a slight mod in mind while listening (similar to your one hit wonder) and it came out in that comment without thinking about it. Tldr; squire of solamnia would be a nice addition lol

If you knock Prone with Warhorse or Trip Attack, you could account for said chance of freeing up your Bonus Action to use a smite spell (Thunderous Smite), Hunter's Mark (Oath Spells), or Quickened Spell (Booming Blade) in the first three damage reports.

I would go blind fighting for that second fighting style. sometimes allies like the darkness devils sight combo, and you being able to take advantage of that gives you a potential way to gain advantage as well as making sure that you never have disadvantage canceling your advantage. Collage of Swords Bard feels like he best thing for those spell slots, you gain the ability to throw your bardic inspiration in on damage (saved for crits) it also really helps you be a support caster when your not in your nova round. I feel like the Shadar Kai Bardlockadin is still the best way to do this build it just needs to b build for NovaSmite instead of the sustained damage.

I had an idea for a really flexible character at level 15 for a one shot that I never got to play unfortunately... It has success in pretty much every pillar of play in my opinion, I think you would enjoy playing around with it. Hexblade Warlock 3 Fey Wanderer Ranger 6 Lore Bard 6 It uses early Magical Secrets to get access to Find Greater Steed, but more importantly, Swift Quiver. It has incredible damage, with very few resources actually put into damage. So all the rest of the spell slots can be put into whatever you want. The only caveats are that it's better if you don't use multiclass ability score restrictions, and thus can dump Dexterity. Honestly most of the issues I run into with this build are restrictions during character building, such as ASI's/feats being tied to class level and not character level, as well as point buy only allowing you to make a stat so high/low. In my perfect game I get rid of those restrictions, though I know most people don't do that. It also has a TON of expertise/proficiency bonuses, so with maxed out Wisdom and Charisma, you are the best in the game at social interactions. Have fun!
@PuppetSoul7 ай бұрын

Might even be a source of great role play opportunities. Like how this really gets on the nervers you this perfectionist character. Damn you sunlight! My prediction is a Drow or half-elf Drow Hexblade Warlock that uses their hex weapon and takes Elven Accuracy, probably something like darkness + devils sight to secure advantage with their hex blade's curse to crit on 19-20. That being said, if the man-burn makes you happy Colby, then don't let anyone make you feel bad about that! I think you look fine, we all love you for who you are, not what your hair looks like!
@grantstratton22397 ай бұрын
Pre video, I'd also say that an elvish barbarian of any kind (2nd level +) is a good way to secure advantage for Strength-based Elven Accuracy. I'd assume Fighter (Champion) is going to be a feature here, otherwise I'd say you can also get reliable advantage with Fighter (Samurai). Assuming you also multiclass into either Eldritch Smite or Paladin Smite, not being able to cast spells or maintain concentration isn't a problem if you plan to smite on all crits.

Alright I have a great build concept. Level One go custom lineage and take Tavern Brawler. Take at least 2 levels of barbarian for reckless, and as many fighter levels as practical (probably 10-11). Take the archery fighting style, Great Weapon Master, Sharpshooter, and Dual Wielder. Dual wield Heavy Crossbows, but use them as a melee weapon, to take -10 on each attack, but every hit does +20 damage. Because sharpshooter and archery fighting style does NOT specify it needs to be a ranged attack, only that it must be a ranged weapon. I want to see how far you could take this.
