Errata: I talk about our Initiative being +11 when we get to add our Wisdom mod. Turns out 4 + 3 = 7, not 11. /facepalm - I think I must have included proficiency bonus in there for some reason.

I have a qestion, regarding the Nova Round. Calling the Echo is a Bonus Action and Flurry of Blows is too. How do you get to 10 Attacks in that round? Have I missed something? The Echo is pretty visible and has only 1 HP, so you can't really call it as setup before the Fight.
@DnDDeepDive
@DnDDeepDive Жыл бұрын
@@th30nlyb4um4 I think you can, actually. It lasts indefinitely, so there's no reason to need to spend a BA in combat to get them out. Now, sure, an enemy might target them and take them out, but honestly, if so, that's a win for your team. You just wasted an enemies action and you can call your Echo back next round no problem.

Thinking of the Bugbear, long limbed, drunken fighting, another name for this build could be the Gorilla. You have a connection to nature as a Ranger, and you have the ambush tactics of a Gorilla mauling some guy with no real fighting strategy other than brute strength and dexterity. You could play a Gorilla Grodd type character that just mauls their opponents.

This was my original build framework from late 2022. Glad D&D Daily, the Dungeon Dudes, now D4 have made it popular so the wider community will be more likely to enjoy! You can do this with *any* combination of levels from three (3) different martial classes and one (1) half-caster-- with the right subclasses (beast barbarian, echo knight fighter, gloomstalker ranger, any monk, this particular build has druid which is an interesting twist!) -- starting at "5/3/3/3". If you can, try getting your DM to allow a Butcher's Bib type magical items, which will give you crits on 19s.

Mine was an echo knight 11/ kensei 5/ gloom stalker 4, got up to a max of 12 attacks on the nova. Was really fun, melted a couple of big targets, some things do work better in the white room than in practice but still a great character.

Colby, I'm having one of those beautiful mind moments. Walk with me on this one; Mountain Dwarf Monk (subclass not super relevant, but I know Long Death doesn't get chosen often) +2 in Dex, +2 in Wisdom, point buy 8/15/14/10/15/8. At level 4 take Dwarven Fortitude, +1 Con (15 now), at level 8 take a +1 in both Dex and Wis then at level 12 take Durable +1 Con (16 now). At level 16 cap Dex. Now, whenever you want to Dodge you'll regain a minimum of 9 HP! Coupled with Long Death temp HP you're one durable dwarven dude (or dudette)!

A level 14 character can attack 11 times in the first round of combat (Echo Knight 11, Gloomstalker 3 with crossbow expert or pole arm master). Attack action, extra attack x2, unleash incarnation, dread ambusher. Action surge and repeat for another 5 attacks. Bonus action Crossbow expert attack or polearm butt attack for 11.
@joshuahampton6141
@joshuahampton6141 Жыл бұрын
Alright! Pre-video guess based on thumbnail/title: I mean, Gloom Stalker / Echo Knight feels like the obvious synergy. With just 3 levels of each and 1 tier of extra Attack, you could get up to 8 attacks. 11 levels of Fighter gets you to 10 attacks easy, and of course you need a bonus action to get your echo into position, so... yeah, what else could you need? Ranger 3/ Fighter 11. The last 3 levels, assuming this is the route taken, could go many different ways. Druid would be fun, since you could go spores and spore up before the encounter, plus the added spell slots and synergy with ranger is nice; Rogue (Assassin) has obvious synergy, since making all 10 attacks with advantage and auto-crits round one is just money; Hexblade dip is obvious if you can afford the stats. Really, anything else works. I'd be curious to see what you get if you don't go ANY of those routes. Early Video: Flurry is in the title. How did I miss it. I don't know if I like it as much personally, but I get the appeal. XD Also... that quickened healing description, fade-in, and segment? /chef's kiss I'm sorry, a classic Disney Robin Hood reference? I think you might have made this one just for me, Colby. XD Post-Vid (Spoilers): Alright. Glad to see I was 90% right at least XD. The addition of monk surprises me as a decent option, but I'm glad it worked out. I personally feel like the build is a little light on "monk-flavor" for my taste, but glad to see it works and works well. I think just the Monk/Gloomstalker combo is awesome, and I actually really dig Monk/Echo Knight the more I think about the flavor of fighting alongside a shadow clone of yourself. Overall, pretty much what I expected, though the monk pick threw me.

I did a build a bit reminiscent of this combo recently for a mini campaign! Battle Master - Drunken Master - Circle of Spores Tortle with the Crusher feat. I used Shillelagh for my attacks, tripped people and flurry of blows'ed them and stumbled away and if that failed, just pushed them back with crusher. My Symbiotic Entity transformation lasted almost the whole big climactic battle even though I only had the 6 temp HP because of how well i could just end my turn not standing near anyone as well as some maneuvers to make me harder to hit and reduce damage. It was very satisfying!

Yay!!!! This is very similar to a build I’ve been playing for like two years, and it’s actually been surprisingly strong, especially as a nova build. Mine is a bit different because I happened to roll like straight 14-16’s for stats, which let me multiclass sorcerer and Paladin for more utility and nova damage instead of the Druid dip. Level 17 now and I’ve got 6 classes, actually, taking Peace Cleric 1 most recently for a kind of ridiculous extra power boost. I hadn’t considered spore Druid, though! Might take that for the last few levels.

Okay. Came back to this build because i love jackie chan. 1) probably go that 6th level of monk 2) Also shore up that action surge so fighter 2 before going Ranger. 3) go Ranger 4 before Fighter 3 to get Alert - need to go first and having +4 dex + 3 Wis + Alert does that. 4) Canny for Perception - youre likely to go first in initiative, dont mess it up by not seeing your enemies and giving them surprise. Thats my changes up 12. Dont usually go beyond that so the rest is extra.

Hey D4! You should 100% love Quickened Healing for Monks from Tasha's, let me explain why! You're absolutely right that the feature is terrible in terms of Ki efficiency vs output, but you're actually thinking of using the feature in the wrong scenario. The specific piece that makes this an excellent feature is the fact that Ki comes back on a SHORT rest. The ability is, quite literally, quickened healing, DURING A SHORT REST. You spend any or all of your leftover Ki points that you didn't use in combat to heal up as much as you can(might save some hit dice for elongated fights or dungeon crawls) just before your rest completes, and voila, you regain all of your Ki points instantly. Quickened Healing!

Sorry that you're not feeling 100% at the time of recording today's video. I hope you get better real soon. =( Maybe someday I'll try Magic Spoon cereal if someone local sells it. Even with the discount, the shipping and exchange rate, plus taxes to get it across the border, hurt too much to justify the expense. I'm glad to see you getting sponsored. You've earned it. Hopefully the next attempt at monk goes better for One D&D. I've recently been revisiting the old D&D Next playtest, and there's no reason that monks shouldn't the additional attacks from Improved Flurry of Blows that, that playtest had. The Way of the Drunken Master bugs me. I could be so much better. WotC was too safe with this. It's like they didn't watch enough Jackie Chan films to make the subclass fully utilize how off-putting the drunken style actually is. At the very least, Drunken Technique should make your first attack be at advantage and increase your AC by 1. Pathfinder did this subclass slightly better. Totally thought you were going to do the druid dip earlier when you mentioned fungus and spores, not ranger, but happy to see druid later. Capping Wis at 20 is good, but I would have gone with Con +2 for an additional echo knight usage. The hair looks good. No more wings. A barbaliadin build sounds awesome. You should totally do one.

I built a similar character to this replacing monk with bladsinger, you get a ton from booming blade and shadowblade in a build like this. Oh, and Colby, you should try to build a strength-based bladesinger. If you build around grappling and cloud of daggers with a rune knight multiclass you can get to a sustained tier ranking of 77.5! (yes, literally number 1 in the chart).

I challenged myself to make this even more monk-ish and I think I found something. Same as you suggested with bugbear, 3 gloom stalker levels, 3 echo knight, but then put all the rest in monk. Go way of the 4 elements monk, the only elemental form you need is fangs of the fire snake. You can then make 10 attacks with reach, and for more first round nova use all of your ki on the bonus fire damage. Not sure how it compares because of lack of advantage, but seems fun!

The build I sometimes think about for lots of attacks is a deep Drunken Master with a dip for Fey Wanderer. The bonus d4 psychic damage per attack works an unlimited number of times, but only once per target. High level Drunken Master gets an extra three Flurry of Blows attacks, but they have to attack different targets. In the end, you’re not all that different from a level 20 monk, and you need level 20 to fit in 17+3, but there’s something funny about a monk always blitzed on faerie wine.

So, I came up with/read about this build a while ago and while I wouldn't play exactly like this bc I live for concept rather than build, I'd like to hear your thoughts on it. Bugbear for surprise attack Need high charisma, going hexblade. Usual palalock, pala 2. hexblade x. And at some point add assasin rogue 3 for those juicy autocrits. Use a rapier. once you reach warlock 11, you can Divine smite, eldritch smite, banishing smite, and if surprised sneak attack and surprise attack, autocritting. Add 2 levels in grave cleric for path to the grave before hand. Thats 1d8+2d6(SneakA)+2d6(SurpriseA)+5d8(D.Smite)+5d10(BanishingSmite)+6d8(eldritchSmite), x2 on a crit, + 5 from cha, x2 from path to the grave. Once. Per. Short. Rest. In a single atttack you deal an average of 426 asuming crit and pathh to the grave. Take a nap and do it again, but I bet this can be improved. Thoughts?

I saw ten attacks and thought it would be echo knight/gloom stalker, let's see if I'm right! As always, super excited for this week's build!!!!! Edit: I can't believe I didn't think of monk. This started out meh but went crazy at later levels which really surprised me. Hampton art never disappoints!

A lot of people say Echo Knight is too powerful but I'm firmly on the side that it is very mediocre. Rune Knight, Battle Master, and Eldritch Knight are all much more powerful subclasses with more versatility. My version of Monk / Ranger was Battle Master Fighter 3 / Gloom Stalker Ranger 3 / Way of Shadow Monk 14. Started off Monk and went to level 6 for the BA teleport, then took the Ranger levels and then the Fighter levels, and finished off with Monk. What made it so powerful was that I was using a hand crossbow with crossbow expert, sharpshooter, and archery fighting style. All that bonus damage really adds up when you make so many ranged attacks.

I did something similar, without the monk, with 5 gloom and 3 fighter and 1 warcleric you still get 9 attacks in the first turn, but at level 9 instead of 11 (same with 5 fighter, and you enjoy more ASI instead of more spells)

I wrote off quickened healing early on playing monk, but found it’s a great ability to use up remaining ki to heal prior to taking a short rest if, like me, you’re playing in a game without a lot of healing options and you take regular short rests. I’m playing my monk in the dungeon of the mad mage and our team of 4 has no healing spells and my monk is the only melee character, so I take a lot of damage compared to everyone else in the party.

I think monks should get ki points based on their Dex mod+wisdom mod + prof bonus. It would reduce the total number available at higher levels, but it would scale up well, and start the monk with more ki. To balance that even further. Ki could be restored on a long rest fully, or a limited amount on a short rest. You could also scale the unarmed strikes from a d4 to a d12 having it increase at levels 4,8,12, and 16. It might also be cool to have a feature that allows you to continue striking the enemy as long as you don’t miss. Spend a Ki point on each strike, but you can keep striking if you keep hitting. That would make flurry of blows scale on par with every other class, and it would make the player HAVE to manage their Ki. So long as they need a long rest to fully recover.

Before watching: my guess is fighter 11/Gloomstalker 3/Beast 3/monk 3 4 attacks on turn 1 plus a free claw attack plus 4 more attacks from action surge, plus flurry of blows for two more. Thats 11 on turn 1, but then it drops to 6 for the next 2 turns, then down to 5 until the next short rest.

Ya know, that bugbear 2d6, only happens cb once per combat. “Surprise Attack. If you surprise a creature and hit it with an attack on your first turn in combat, the attack deals an extra 2d6 damage to it. You can use this trait only once per combat.” When you hit it with an attack, not attack action. So your damage output will be much less. The 2d6 on first attack is nice. Adding the rogue/assassin sneak on a single attack… would be nice. Assassin getting the crits... adds dice. Maybe f Dueling fighter style? That +6 to each would be nice too

Your monk ranger build is actually the first video if yours I saw. If you find a "set ability score to" items then more multiclass shenanigans are open to you at Med - High level of play - A pair of Gauntlets of Ogre Power or one of the "Belt of Giant Strength" items opens the way for Barbarian levels to be added into the mix for reckless attack at range via the echo, go 3 levels for ancestry barbarian that gives all attacks that are not against you to be at disadvantage to one enemy per turn -> attacks against your echo is at disadvantage - A headband of intellect opens the way to Blood Hunter for Lycan's resistance to non-magical, non-silver physical damage, +1 to AC while not wearing heavy armor and +1 to melee damages, + haemocraft die to all weapon attacks via Crimson Rite (so either fire, cold or lightning damage) also blood maledict: Curse of the marked for double haemocraft die of damage for 1 round

@@DnDDeepDivethink there's no real point in valuing making a well rounded character when you're at such a high level like 15 or 16 since your other party members (assuming they would have been single classed) would have access to utility and support or control stuff that are way beyond the features you'd be getting as a multi classed character since they're ment for lvl 6 at most. Getting some slightly higher level spell slots and spells like sleet storm and call lighting feels pointless if it's at lvl 16. I think you made the right call by going for asi though but after getting wis to 18 it would be cooler to go roge assassin to see how far we can push it and test the limits. since we already threw our dignity when we made an echo knight multiclass build. Plus the funniest thing about this build is the idea of of presenting it to your dm and other players as ''here's my echo knight fighter/gloomstalker ranger/drunken master monk/assassin roge/spores druid character'' and seeing the reactions of confusion from the other players mixed with the fear from the dm and then when the moment comes use 10 different features that aren't compatible with each other thematically and drop 300+ damage and maybe get killed off by an angry dm

I'm playing an echo knight/rogue in a campaign now. I would not consider it broken, but it is a hell of a lot of fun. The echo actually provides a ton of utility and creative ways to solve non-combat problems, but still often lags behind a non-optimized full caster.

This build reminded me of a burst damage build I made a while ago, and it has the most ungodly multiclassing I've ever seen. Echo Knight Fighter 4, Gloom Stalker Ranger 3, Assassin Rogue 3, Hexblade Warlock 4, and Bladesinger Wizard 6. If my math was right, it could deal well over 1k damage in one round, assuming everything hit lol

If you were to dip into Beast Barbarian instead of Spores Druid, you could add another attack to your action with Form of the Beast by picking the Claws option, upping the build to 12 attacks with the Action Surge from Fighter. Maybe slightly less damage since it would require more claw attacks than longsword, BUT more survivability with Rage and the better chances to hit those flurry of attacks with Reckless Attack.

In my mind, the assumption that you are able to get Hunter's Mark off before combat begins is equivalent to the assumption that you are able to get surprise. So it's a bit unfair to say that this build outperformed the previous Assassin build, when you are subjecting the other one to more stringent assumptions than this one. Conversely, that assumption means that this build would benefit a ton by taking Assassin at the end. Also, since you are unlikely to get Hunter's Mark off unless you are in stealth, you might as well assume that the first attack gets advantage, even before you get a familiar to help.

Why not go Fighter 11/Monk 3/Ranger 3? The fighter levels would give you extra ASIs and improved extra attack. With subclass features you would get 6 attacks (2 attack actions)+ 2 attacks (Dread Ambusher)+2 attacks (Unleash Incarnation)+ 2 attacks (Flurry of blows) for a total of 12 attacks, 10 0f which can be made with weapons, giving you a potential 10d10+2d4+26d6+80 damage.
