When US build the Panama canal it had operation right from 1914 to 1999. 85 years to recover the investments and more!! Did the US think they have perpetual rights??? China build the port in Sri Lanka and had a 30 years lease to operate the Port....US and India said it was unfair agreement!!! US cannot seem to get their words right!!! A commercial organization is not the same as a military organization. Nor does a commercial organization have the capabilities of carrying out military operations. US shows they have little between them ears.

China is truly a gentleman knowing Panama was threatened to remove them after so many years of friendship. They understand that US is shrinking with fear and needs Panama for their national security. So likewise, when China needs to reunify with Taiwan for national security, US will be in a good position to understand much better. China will never reunify as China has never conquered Taiwan. it will be an annexation. The first country to conquer Taiwan was Japan. There are no internationally recognized treaties, policies, agreements or UN resolutions that declare that Taiwan is part of China. In fact, legally Japan would have more claim.

The answer to the question is simple. China would never be successful in blocking the Panama Canal. It requires its naval fleet, although it would be effective if we tried to go to China to fight them there, their fleet would be decimated by the time they got anywhere near Panama. China could be successful in capturing Taiwan however it would give them no benefit in doing so other then fueling their ego. It would be a disadvantage for them to capture Taiwan in their economy, and they would loose their ability to get knee jerk reactions from the E.U., and the U.S., every time they act like they are going to invade it. If China gets into a war with the U.S., they would be having to fight a three front war, and also face interior instability and possible civil war with its population. One front will be possible with India from territorial disputes, another front is on their east coast, and north east coast with the U.S., and Japan, and the other is defending their western boarder from air and land attacks. Although their navy seems well numbered and diverse they would face off with the Japan navy where the Chinese may be out matched, and in the south China sea where the U.S., has ports, and Australia has anti ship missiles, and shore batteries, and bombers. If we attack China we certainly would have to face off with anti ship missiles stationed at the artificial bases they set up in the pacific ocean, and south China sea, and anti ship defenses set up all around the Taiwan straight. Oh and they have a few nuclear powered submarines, and ICBM subs.
