This honestly is really helpful for experienced artists too along with those struggling to keep up. As someone who's mental health is a bit shakey, despite drawing for nearly two decades now I still catch myself deteriorating in skills sometimes due to lack of practice and disorganization when I get into really bad mental slumps. When I found your channel recently this reminded me to start doing practices/drills which honestly I have veen long overdue for.

This is a really great method. I want to do this method but I'm so scatter brained in a way. While I can focus on one thing at a time, with drawing, it's like I'm seeing so many areas I need to improve on that I don't know what to focus on exactly. The other day Iwas studying arm and back muscles, then a pose folded me and I realised I need to go back to gesture. Also I'm learning how to draw detailed hair. That is going well too

I will admit, the references thing isn't a bad idea. I almost always buy art books as references to improve my style and always use google images to find a good reference. I always have this thought in my head. "It is never enough". What I make will probably look good to someone else but to me, I think I can do much better. I need to to improve and this isn't bad advice. I'm never stopping until I'm better and I can be satisfied with my style. And even then, I'll probably be pushing to get better still. Damn, I sound like a Shonen protagonist.

I love your videos and its inspired me to start drawing myself, but I don’t really know where to begin, do you think you could make a video of covering the fundamentals or how to start drawing manga?
@alexsanimeart57062 жыл бұрын
Perspective is the best place to start imo. The human body is just a bunch of organic shapes. If you know basic shapes from different angles and perspectives, then the body will be a whole lot easier to understand. Manga is a lot more specific than just getting good at drawing. You're talking about art-style, panel/page flow, inking, etc. It gets pretty complex, but start with perspective and basic shapes and then study anatomy your favorite artists after to develop a style of your own. Hopefully that helped!
@lilian-zz4ks2 жыл бұрын
you should search for draw a box it is free and you learn basics with them you can draw anything
@Hopwak2 жыл бұрын
Don’t want to sound annoying but for me I found studying how western comic book artists use anatomy and crosshatching really helpful for drawing in the manga style, I think if your goal is to practice drawing as a whole and not just manga style you’ll improve way faster, I recommend proko, David finch and Ryan Benjamin, it might seem boring at first but it’ll really pay off
@pong63772 жыл бұрын
So I think you want to approach learning how to draw in a character drawing perspective. That's the same way I approached drawing when I was starting out. I approached it this way: basic forms and perspective, gesture and construction simultaneously, anatomy, and painting (basically light, shadow, color, tone etc.). I suggest that you go into art subreddits and check out their recommended resources and process with learning.
@ddmarkk2 жыл бұрын
okay so i'll make a fundamentals video in the future but i suggest googling the fundamentals, making a list of them and taking time to dedicate to each of them. for example if you chose to study perspective, for a whole week, you might watch alot of tutorials on it and then spend the whole week practicing what you saw in the tutorials on your own till you understand it. then you would do that for another fundamental for another week and so on. hope that helps!

For those curious the math he shows at 5:15 is in regards to sequence and series, a calculus 3 topic. Essentially at least from my understanding it is a method in which to quote "find area under a curve" or string of data using and infinite number of simplified shapes. Don't let that fool you though. It was because of sequence and series that my grade went from a B+ to D- real fast. It's not to complicated but when you have calc 3 and phy 2 in the same semester in the middle of covid ahit hits the fan.

I agree that one must do a certain amount of drilling; especially using a pencil. But I think when it comes to anatomy you realy need to also experience real life bodies. Not just online or in books. Images flatten out and often stylise the body, whereas drawing from life offers the quirks and fluidity of the line, light and shadow, and making process. Also it offers a chance to draw different shapes and body actions than the stock images you find online.
