My favorite De La Soul album and they produced this by themselves along with J Dilla. They proved they didn’t need Prince Paul to produce for them. I get how celebrated their first three albums are but this album is really underrated and to be honest got slept on when it dropped given it was released the same day as Nas’ classic sophomore album It Was Written. To me Stakes Is High is one of the best releases of this incredible year. 96 is one of the best years in hip-hop. So many legendary and essential releases. R.I.P. Trugoy

What is amazing about De La Souls first 4 albums especially this one is that they drag you into the world with their production, like an amazing movie. This one makes you feel sad but with a strong dose of hope at the end of the tunnel. Many tracks on here are soulful and timeless
@TheDistrict6442 жыл бұрын
I copped 2 new copies of this album in 2004, after losing it or it being snatched by brother. Every time I run up on classics like these in the thrift, I cop. In the late 90 and early 2000's a lot of cd exchange stores and businesses like it, went out of business and dumped a lot of their cd's at thrifts. You could find almost anything at 1.00 or .50 on half price days. Streaming took over and became the new format. Now, the cd has made a comeback, like the album, and its almost next to impossible to find the classics and just the best music I used to be able to find.

Probably the disappearance from Amazon is due to the ongoing legal battle with De La and Tommy Boy. Same reason why 3 Feet High and Rising isn't on Spotify. Read that it was close to being resolved last year, but still nothing. Glad it's here!
