Could you please explain why the angles are simply multiplied by the power? Why does (cos x)^2 = cos2x and not cos^2x?

Yes, it is because of Euler's Identity: e^iθ=cosθ+isinθ So for a multiple angle nθ, replace θ with nθ: e^inθ=cos(nθ)+isin(nθ)

one revolution is equal to 2pi, so by going 3pi, it is the same as going one and a half revolution around the unit circle. This is also equal to going a half rotation (1pi), since the function is periodic at 2pi s.t. f(2pi + x) = f(x)
