That was marvelous, I have to say. Do I have a crimping fetish? I have no idea but I really like doing things properly for the simple reason that I just want it to work and keep working. I'll be depinning a miserable little connector that has been intermittent from the beginning so this has been a nice, empowering nudge. Thank you!

@@FayeHadley helped with my gs300 but to be honest I ruined my cam position solenoid connector... hopefully next time I can get it right... one thing I added to the mix is after I crimped the metal connector on I added a dab of solder to the crimp to lock the wires to the metal crimped connector and that thing was SOLID... I would like to also add to those watching the video that this crimper is NOT your standard crimper it's a DOUBLE CRIMP TOOL.... peace

Thanks for the instructions. I always struggle to know what type of pins or pin styles to get. They don’t seem to be universal.
@FayeHadley
@FayeHadley Жыл бұрын
They ABSOLUTELY ARE NOT universal!! I had a friend who does mostly American muscle cars try to de-pin one of my connectors and he couldn't get it !! Don't feel bad! What I recommend is going to a salvage yard and snipping off a bunch of connectors for the types of vehicles that you're interested in learning about and just practicing on junk connectors! That's what I did, and it really helped so that when the time came to do mine I didn't break anything!

Nice. I stepped up my 12v wiring game to redo the lights on my FJ. Got all the supplies to make and depin connectors, the proper TXL wire (in multiple fancy colors!) for wiring the switch plate, etc. I love this stuff. Being able to make your own connectors is so nice. For wire protection, I like the braided wire wrap which you secure at both ends with adhesive lined heat shrink. It does a good job and looks really professional. I saw your post about the store in San Antonio on insta so I know you've seen all this stuff but I'm just geeking out! 😁. I live in NH and might actually make a pilgrimage to that place the next time I'm in TX for work. Nowhere like that around me so I have to order everything.

Before I was exclusively a Toyota guy, I had a 2007 Frontier. I had an engine fire and Nissan quoted me $1,500 to rewire the entire engine bay. The wiring harness alone was $950. I'm a special kinda stupid, so I decided to do it myself. I was really lucky because I found a local salvage yard with a wrecked Frontier with the wiring harness that I needed. It took me almost Two Days to install the harness and Two more Days of rechecking every wire, its connection, and pin. I had that Truck for another 200k miles with no electrical problems.

Great video, thanks. I have been having a major squirrel attaches on my Toyotas, Camry and 4Runner. Right now, my MAF sensor cable has been chewed in half down behind the engine, going to be a pain to get to, but that will just be a splice. My 4-runner has 3 or 4 weirs chewed off right at a 15 pin connector on my transmission, leaving me will virtually no room to access the connector. Toyota tells me they never de-pin and replace just the bad ones. But I figured there must be a way. Have any recommendations? :-)

Nice video, love it. One thing I have noticed when cars get of age, some connector terminals get loose mainly the female ones where they don't make good contact with male onces. I remember on my 1JZ-GTE Soarer when taking a hard right U-turn the car would stall. I wiggled a few connectors, finding the TPS sensor connector seemed to have bad contact. I used a sharpened piece of metal to a fine point to bend the female terminals inwards so they hugged the male terminal better, after this no problems. Wiggle test can reveal a lot.

helped with my gs300 but to be honest I ruined my cam position solenoid connector... hopefully next time I can get it right... one thing I added to the mix is after I crimped the metal connector on I added a dab of solder to the crimp to lock the wires to the metal crimped connector and that thing was SOLID... I would like to also add to those watching the video that this crimper is NOT your standard crimper it's a DOUBLE CRIMP TOOL.... peace.

I thought De-Pinning, Re-Pinning, & Crimping was a private thing in your home?? Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I bought the "correct" tools for de-pinning and I've still tore up several connectors and not freed a pin yet. 😭 🤦‍♂ You make it look so easy but my damn pin tool bends before the plastic clip will move.

Great video! I’m gearing up to tackle a flying lead type harness on my 2JZ swapped Tacoma. I was going to reuse a lot of the connectors from the factory harness but after a closer inspection I realized it was in rough shape with a lot of missing insulation and brittle connectors. I found Ballenger Motorsports online that sells connector kits, but no information on what kind of crimper was needed to crimp them. Glad I found this video though! Definitely going to pick up one of those crimpers you used!

I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. I've been chasing a ground on my Tracker boat trailer side lights, and suspect it's in the cannon plug, truck side. How do I remove the wires from inside the plug, to inspect? It's the 7 pin cannon plug. I've seen other videos where you remove two set screws and push the wires out through the front of the plug, but this cannon plug doesn't have the set screws. Do you have a video on this? or can help me out?? Thanks again, and love your videos!

Wow perfect timing I found this video, because I need to rebuild the passenger door speaker on my '15 Corolla. I used Toyota battery terminal cleaner and a small pick to clean out the connector, but I'm gonna have to get some new wire because the old was so corroded I had to cut it back significantly. Is a common problem with this car. But screw paying $201 with employee discount for a full harness!

I bought my first supra when I was 15 it was a MK two and it was my favorite car I’ve ever owned. I love that thing I had a lot of issues with electrical connectors that would just blow off when I was driving there was this old dude who live right down the road from me Who was a Toyota 4 x 4 expert and he was really good at it he had a huge bit of property that he lived on that was basically like a well organized junkyard. Most of his storage was old school buses filled with amazing parts, and slightly organized more than you would think by seeing the property, I had a few problems with my Supras and he could drive me in his giant truck that had 44 tires on it to a spot where he had parts and he gave them all to me for free I eat I always came up asking to purchase and he’s like just keep itdon’t worry

Great info. If anyone is searching & wondering - the tiny clips discussed at 6:20 or so is the same style as inside the air temp sensors on a 5th Gen Camry.

ok did my first connector today on 93 toyota4x4 pickup, it was a 3 wire plug going to the alternator, Had to stand on my head up under front end so that made it a good bit harder but all turned out well. I bought crimps and the little rubber insulators from your posted link and pliers from one of your other links, never would have gotten it done without you Faye! 😍😉
