Waxing nostalgic? Another anniversary to celebrate. First, 25 years for Mr, and Mrs Kevy. Now 1 year for Kevy shaves. The accumulation of improved technique, improved lather building, and greater skin conscience mapping has produced a top level shave as opposed to the nervous first time video. To me, the biggest difference is the development in style of presentation. You have grown at ease with subsequent shaves that it put us viewers at ease. Thanks for the throwback shave, mate! It took all of us original subs back to the day you broke your DE cherry. It has been a joy to remain loyal after all this time. Cheers to another year, Kev!!

I've got back into DE wet shaving and enjoying it. I watched a lot of reviews to decide on what to get. I first used a safety razor by stealing Daddy's to shave my legs and can still remember him hollering at me for doing it. Time to end my subscription to Dollar Shave Club. Haven't had such close shaves and softer skin after shaving. Your videos helped me make certain choices for gear and soaps, etc. The initial investment put a dent in my Social Security check for sure . I can see how it has turned into more of a hobby/collector pstime for so many.

One Year... Congrats! I started about a year ago also. Out of curiosity I went back through my 2015 Amazon orders. 17, August, I ordered a Weishi 9306CL, Arko 2-pack sticks, Arko Moist shaving cream, a cheapie badger and 100 Personna Blues. That nasty shedding badger was the first thing to be replaced.

I got my first DE razor in January 2015, a Merkur 23C. It's been a hell of a ride so far. I started out face lathering, now I bowl lather in my scuttle and I gravitate towards aggressive razors. It's amazing how much you learn from shave to shave. I had a hard time determining when I had added enough water to my lathers at first, now I can easily tell if it's too pasty just by looking at it. I also now think about shaving all the time, even though I only do it maybe 2-3 times a week.

I usually shave every other day, but there are times when I have to shave the day after a shave. For that I usually use a Derby blade as it's more forgiving. Other times, if I have nothing to do. I'll also shave the next day just because I enjoy my post shave routine so much! One of my favorite things about DE shaving is that when I have a 3 to 4 day growth, I no longer have to worry about cartridges clogged with hair.

Not gonna lie Kevy, the main reason I switched is because I thought DE razors were really cool. I've been DE shaving since the summer so I'm still relatively inexperienced. My razor came but the blades took ages to arrive, I remember hallucinating that the package was there then being really disappointed.. I had a mail call today actually, Cella, Cella aftershave and a pack of 20 blades to sample. I was more excited than I care to admit.. Great video! 👍

I also started with an EJ 89L using EJ sandalwood soap.which is a great scent but it took me a few shaves before I could build a proper lather with it. Unfotunately, the first blade I used was a Bic Chrome Platinum. It 's very good blade but quite sharp. The blade along with using too much pressure after almost four decades of cartridge shaving guaranteed that Mr. Styptic pencil had to work overtime. I must have had 10 nicks and weepers after that first shave. Once I got the technique down, it was full speed ahead on the search for more and more products!.

Totally agree..Sinds i have bin using Sterling Soap from the US. i have found out that paying more than $1,70 or $2 for an ounce is overpaying. i mean Artisan quality soap clean ingredients no crap like EDTA for under $2 an ounce..that's amazing i really feel like i have bin ripped of.. so these days i compare all prices with my best performer. i talked to RazorRock and they told me that they would be opening a EU internet store soon so can't wait for sum good competition here in the EU. i know there are stores like "executive-shaving" that need sum competition to pul them back to reality ahahaha..

Tristan Riches Hi Tristan. Firstly, thanks for the compliment 😀 Great to hear you're enjoying your shaves. It takes a few shaves to get the hang of this way of shaving but stick with it and like anything, the more you do it, the easier it gets. The 34C is a fantastic razor. Blades are very subjective and it's good to try as many different brands to see what works for you. What's great for some, doesn't work for others. It's weird how such a small piece of metal can feel so different. Keep at it and I promise it will get better. Cheers. Kevy 👍

Great video Kevy. I started wet shaving back in July 2013, I seen PaulHFilms using the Merkur Futur and he was using a Feather blade in it and you know Paul he makes it look so easy, so I through I will get me one of them Futur razors with them Feather blades. So I went at it like I would do with my Mach 3 and it was like a horror movie in my bathroom, I was bleeding from ear to ear. There was more blood in the sink than water lol. But three and a bit years later I've mastered wet shaving and I wouldn't go back to my mach 3 now.

steven lamond I'll bet that's what happens to most people to come over to this way of shaving. Talk about throwing yourself in at the deep end! Merkur Futur and a Feather on your first shave? Brilliant! Great to hear you've mastered it and you're enjoying your shaves. Cheers. Kevy 😀

To this day the first use of a Feather with a Merkur Futur is a tough go. The pressure's got to be very light, but by that 3rd pass, there's little left other than in my usual spots along the jawline, middle of the neck, and sides of the jaw. Subsequent uses of a Feather are fantastic.

I think a Feather and the Merkur Progress are a good match. With the Futur, I don't think I'd go above setting 2 or 3 with a Feather and only after the first use with a different razor.

Chris James The original Plissoft. The 24mm synthetic brush. The 34C is a great razor that's loved by lots of shavers.

There are two Razorock Plissofts. The Bruce and the Big Bruce. I see you have the smaller one? Do you know of someone with the bigger version (26 mm) and if so, what's their opinion? www.italianbarber.com/collections/brushes/products/big-bruce-razorock-plissoft-big-bruce-synthetic-shaving-brush www.italianbarber.com/collections/brushes/products/bruce-handle-razorock-plissoft-synthetic-shaving-brush I guess you like the synthetic more than you do the Semogue 830 boar brush. As for creams, it's interesting that you prefer Supermax over Palmolive menthol/classic from Italy and Proraso. There's a bunch of creams I like including Palmolive and Proraso. I find Omega and La Toja to be excellent as I do Tabac and even Williams Ice Blue. My favorite Thayers is the lemon with the Medicated Superhazel a close 2nd. Aftershave favorites are too numerous to mention but Lucky Tiger and Tabac are up there as is Ogallala Limes and Peppercorns and several from the Clubman line. Now before we entered the world of DE shaving, how many of these products would we have heard of?

Have you gotten to the point where if you like a blade, you just buy a bulk 100 pack rather than bothering with the higher unit price of one pack? I keep hearing Voskhod's are great, and I see a 100 pack going for around US $10 here on Ebay: www.ebay.com/itm/100pcs-VOSKHOD-RAZOR-BLADES-FREE-GIFT-extra-gift-/161617829372

I think the original Polsilvers were made in Poland and Shaving.ie) (from Ireland still has some left at a higher price): www.shaving.ie/products/100-polsilver-blades.html www.shaving.ie/products/200-polsilver-blades.html They also have decent prices on razors with a reasonable shipping fee: www.shaving.ie/safety-razors/

honastly i love both but i typticly set the straigh razor aside and will typicly shave at night i make the straight razor special so i grab the simpsons commodore x3 best badger brush amazing by the way think there about £65 at shaving shack i get the better of my soaps or creams and spend a good 20 - 30 minutes and just enjoy the shave but also the reason for de shaving mostly is the maintenance involves in the straight razor with stropping and honing i want to get more straight razors but the ones i want are always out of stock my advice for learning how to hone is to get cheap kitchen knives and sharpen them with the whetstone to get angles i did the same to learn how to sharpen my chef knives but overall i could do either one and be very happy but because of how i set aside time for the straight razor my overall pick would be it for enjoyment

Daniel soul McDougall I think that's what's putting me off starting an obsession with straight razors! My life is hectic enough just now without trying to find time to hone and strop straights. I suppose I could send them to someone to do it for me but I'm finding DE shaving so enjoyable just now that I'll stick with that for now but in the future, you never know! A Simpson's badger brush is on my wish list. Thanks for the brilliant answer. Cheers. Kevy.

With creams, I like to drop a little into a bowl and bowl lather, adding quite a few drops of water as I go along. The only time I face lather by placing the cream on the brush is if I don't shower before the shave. As usual, KZbin got your name wrong twice (in the first minute): i.imgur.com/R4RrxHi.jpg You should point out the cc thing to your viewers and tell them what to look for.

Shave- a-thon Carrier sheets? That's a new one! I wouldn't normally lather up like this with a cream but it's how I done it on the first shave so I wanted to do the exact same thing this time to see how different a year made. I'll try to remember the CC mention in the next video. Cheers. Kevy 😀

I prefer the "Candy Sheets KZbin channel" reference in the next screen cap! One other recommendation - if you run certain parts of the shaving videos at half speed using the settings feature, it sometimes sounds like you guys had a few and are shaving "two or three sheets to the wind" so to speak!

Technically Brilliant I quite like the Brucie reference! Lol! Ken's vids are good. I'll keep making these as I want to document my shaves. I have TOBS Sandalwood in my den and it's a brilliant smelling soap. However the TOBS and Simpson's Sandalwood are completely different smelling creams. The Simpson Sandalwood has a very dark, earthy, smoky kind of Sandalwood scent. I quite like it but I wouldn't think it's for everyone. But as usual, everyone has different tastes when it comes to scent. However, Simpson's make other creams in some great scents. I'm not sure, but you might get a sample from Shavedash. Cheers. Kevy 👍
