Joachim Sudergat I feel like most boxy 70s and 80s styling is still somewhat modern looking, even if it is retro to some extent. Whereas a decent number cars from the mid-late 90s look dated and old now, and I feel like a lot of modern cars will look dated in the future.

Actually a true beauty,penned by the young talented Giorgio Giugiaro by then chief designer at the celebrated Ghia coachbuilder firm.Actually the car wasn't as effective as its stunning bodyshell would deserve mainly for its crazy front-rear weight imbalance which caused the car to be pretty much unpredictable.In addition, its chassis came from a former DeTomaso racing chassis which was way too expensive as far as I remember.So,basically this astounding car was neither a great performer nor a good business.Surely a thorough chassis suspension tuning could turn it into a better car overall,albeit the whole job wasn't worth the money.I loved it, yet the aforementioned lackings were well known here in Italy.

The Momoose had a spine frame requiring very rigid materials, the Panther was a more modern monocoque incorporating both body and engine transaxle. Both beautiful engineering of two separate eras. Each was true to the times, the Mongoose had the super hi perf 289, that was not well known and confused with it's siblings, the Panther had a special 351 Cleveland. The uniqueness is what set them both apart, including from each other 👍

@@andykerr3803 Yes,the Pantera was extensively improved overall and yet sporting a more conventional body styling really was a gorgeous car. The Mongoose had a really breathtaking look and in addition an unequalled allure. Personal feelings of course...

@@INDIGOBLUE555 They both evolved differently. The Pantera got wider for racing, the Mangusta became more refined... There are some racing examples that were even more beautiful with rear louvers added touches. I favor simplicity, even without spoilers. The GT 40 influenced bodies were much nicer than the Countach mods. To each his own... Cheers 🍻

Marco Andreoli Mah....in un paio di sequenze si vede l'avantreno che rimbalza in frenata e impostazione...deve essere un incubo da guidare (bravissimo il pilota)....in pratica una specie di grosso e largo Kart troppo leggero davanti e incollato per terra dietro che va guidato tutto di trazione. Non ho notato nessuna sbavatura del retrotreno quindi penso la sensazione sia quella, sottosterzo pazzesco in ingresso e sovrasterzo di grip in uscita.

If its a Euro Spec it had a 289. If it was a US spec it was a 302. Ironically the Euro 289 had almost 80 more horse power than the 5 liter US model.

Mangustas never had a 351. The European versions (of which this is an example) had a HiPo 289 producing a little over 300 horsepower while U.S. models came equipped with a 302 that generated an anemic 220 . It is the high compression ratio (10.5:1) of that HiPo 289 that gives it the distinct, high-strung sound. I bet you're thinking of the Pantera which came exclusively with the 351 Cleveland.

@@lavarclemmons2574 No, the 351 Cleveland was used in many models, they were capable of producing good HP. The Ford Windsor engines were generally for economy and the Cleveland was for performance.

My father's best friend owned a Mangusta when I was a child. I was a total 80's car freak having all the typical F40/959 posters on my wall. One day my dad took me to visit his friend and he let me ride in the Mangusta. Wanted one ever since, but the value has shot up faster than my personal wealth. Oh well. Bought a Lotus Elise and that puts a damn good smile on my face for MUCH less money.

Love it, thx. Spoke to Giugiaro some years ago at his office in Moncalieri and he explained to me that in '66 he was designing on one drawing board the Mangusta and at the same time on another the Ghibli. "They were born together" he said.

Amazing Car! This Mangusta has been race prepped for sure as it really gets around the track well..........................my understanding of these cars from what I have read is that they were underpowered and pretty squirrely to drive as they had quite a bit of chassis flex not unlike the Muira. This one is obviously had mucho work done to it as it performs and sounds awesome! Beautiful guitar and great video Thanks!

My God!!! That's one of the best sounding engines I have ever heard! I've always loved the Mangusta, especially since it was of course designed to kill the Cobra. I absolutely love the Shelby Cobras of the early-mid 60's persuasion, but I love this car just about as much. It has such a perfect style, shape, stance, width and length, and of course the interior and mechanics are on point. The Mongoose definitely took some bites out of the snake! Plus, I mean come on, a name like De Tomaso Mangusta??? Epic!
