most of their songs are best at 1,10 x speed. Try through VLC if u know how to or in another way. Exception Saltarello and Bird that are already very fast

The track is called Labor of Love. It was unreleased, but you can get the track on CD with the 81-98 box set Rhino release.

I remember taping the 1983 sessions from john peel - I couldn't work them out musically, they were much too broad creatively to be labelled under the Gothic tag. Initially tracks from the 1st LP like Threshold and the cover art work made me think they could be. The subsequent EP Garden of Arcane Delights put me straight

I read a magazine about the history of Goth and there was no mention of DCD any where , just only the Cocteau twins by comparison .This group is better than most of all those bands put together.

Yes, this is much better than that.

Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry reject the 'Goth' labeling of their music. Lisa said (at the time) the Goths attending their concerts were quite intelligent but I think were expecting something other than they got (in terms of style of music).

Goth? I think they only thing goth about them were the dark album sleeves and what they looked like... their music is far to unique and complex to be dropped into the Goth genre; leave that for the likes of Xmal Deutschland, Christian Death and such like. Just my 2cents.
@keithbate94059 жыл бұрын
Simon Kelly Agree about the album sleeves and maybe Lisa's appearance (and her red lipstick) but Brendan never looked like a goth . Far from it (LOL)
@HaleG99 жыл бұрын
Simon Kelly well if this recording is not 'goth' in the line of the bands you mentioned (plus a hint of Diamanda Galas in a soft version and minimalist synths and guitar hooks), I really have no clue. I agree with you as to what they came up with later on in the 1990ies, but their start was at least very close to Dark Wave or post punk as it was called then - 'gothic' is a term I only heard about in the later years anyways, when the good music was gone and only kitsch was left...
@keithbate94059 жыл бұрын
dustinzk I can only imagine that your comment is made "with the benefit of hindsight" . I was around in the punk new wave era. I never heard the term "post punk " at the time in the UK. We called it "new wave " (of rock music ) . Dark wave is another expression that appeared years later. But I remember the term goth around 1981. It applied to bands like Bauhaus and it followed from that. To me DCD were and are too varied and complex to have been included in that genre. But there is no doubt that at the gigs in the 1980's goths were the primary audience. I was there myself and as a non goth was out numbered. I know Lisa and Brendan were bemused by their "goth audience" !
@HaleG99 жыл бұрын
Keith Bate Benefit of hindsight: Post Punk yes - Dark Wave no (that is how we called it in 1983ff. - so, yes, I was around at that time, too. As to DCD, I know that they were amused by the categorisation right from the start, but the mixture of their music (including the medieval elements) fit the scene perfectly fine at that time, if they like it or not is a different cup of tea.
@keithbate94059 жыл бұрын
dustinzk I had never heard the term Dark wave until much later in the 1980's and the term "new wave" I first heard and used by late 77/78 eg Magazine/ The only ones. Goth to me was Bauhaus/ Sisters/X mal etc. but not DCD even though they attracted a goth audience. But people like to "re write history" . I have heard Joy Division described a s goth- Even though they predated goth . The best band I have ever seen was the USA new wave/electronic band Wall of Voodoo. They have been described by some as Goth too. Nonsense ! Re goth many say Siouxisie as the "original goth queen" but she denies the term too . But in my opinion the Banshees had far more in common with that scene than DCD.
@TheEarthling27 жыл бұрын
Classic goth?? Comsat Angels? Early Cure`? Oh dear..
@cuiperindy21206 жыл бұрын
Early Cure? ahh, please, early Cure were interesting and fascinating in those times..ok, more or less so. Still deserving some merit. But Dcd were on another planet. By far more profound and interesting than Cure

C'est franchement très mauvais, du moins les trois premières chansons, je n'ai pas écouté la suite, désolé... Et la voix de lisa gerard, c'est pas loin de la catastrophe... la crise d'hystérie et le chant c'est pas la même chose...
