I have carried all three parts of this game for 37 years and I still have them. I have expertly memorized every profile of jet and know most of their flight characteristics and loadouts. What I couldn’t do was figure out the basic first scenario of flying the F19 through check points on the map. I revisited the game 3 years ago with a buddy and we still couldn’t make heads or tails about the rules. The rules are daunting but I openly admit I’m easily overwhelmed by instructions. I loved that the F20 was included but annoyed that stallworths like the F105 Thunderchief, F101 Voodoo and a few others were omitted. The crappy Vampire was included but not the Republican F84F. I’m going to try again soon.

Thanks for the video. I used to have the old Top Gun game from Fasa, and I vaguely remember Air Superiority being mentioned along with Blue Max, by some of the older players. Im glad the KZbin algorithm brought this video up.

I had this game when I was, I'm guessing about 13 in 1987... I was so hooked on Top Gun that I saw the previous summer when I was 12, and dreaming of being an F-14 pilot. I just never got my head wrapped around these rules.. and as I've grown up, I've gone on to play many tactical war games and table top games (mostly squad and land based combat), but often wondered what became of my copy of Air Superiority and Air Strike I had as a youth. Now it is Jan 21, 2022 and I'm 47 years old... and for some reason once again I was thinking about this long lost game of my youth. I went ahead and dropped $70 on eBay today to buy a copy from a gentleman up in Canada. I'm very excited to know I'll have a copy in my hands soon again. I'm hoping now with my experience in gaming, I'll actually be able to run it and enjoy it. It did bring me a lot of joy just looking over the components and dreaming of playing it... at the very least I'll enjoy it for the pure nostalgia... but I'm hoping this time I'll get to enjoy it to its full potential and run some scenarios with F-14's facing off against those Migs I had dreamed about as a younger lad haha

Follow your dreams! ...even if it leads you to the game-table!

There's a scenario in that game based on the last dogfight in Topgun.

Thanks for the video! I came across this game recently. It looks daunting and I haven't had a chance to play it yet, as I'm still reading through the rules, but I want to make a Tabletop Simulator mod for it once I learn Lua programming.

Hi Michael ! It just looks daunting. But once you get the trick you might even stick to the basic wargame play ! It's really like chess in the air ! My opinion. And we play it like they did in the 70s. If you need any info I will help. Michel

Surely you mean Hex & Counter. "Hex & chit" sounds so strange to me, counters are pushed, chits are pulled. 😉

You would be amazed how divergent gamer terminology gets from place to place. I had a guy from Colorado tell me how to roll a d100....yeah.

Really nice game thanks for showing it! The key to future proof is the frame work... So I don't see why you can't homebrew a F-15EX, B-1b missile trucks with modern missiles to fight with F-22s and F-35s over the East china sea vs J-20s and J-31s. Really inspirational stuff for me as a game dev myself.

Great review of Air Superiority, I have the three games but am missing the Air Strike Aircraft Data Cards, was wondering if you ever made scans of those and if I could get a copy of them?

I don't see why this hasn't been ported to Tabletop Simulator along with Harpoon.

i think TTS is driven and updated by the small community that maintains it. Simple reason, good sir.
