"Not a snob like us" I think I must have a different version(Cherry Red Records 1979) as mine is nearly indecipherable and it sounds like at the end he's saying "Thank you, thank you, thank, you!"

The ending lyrics are a little off but I’ve never found an official source for them so who knows/cares. Here’s what I’ve always heard though: As you go to work and you cash a check You got a home and you got enough to pay the rent Turn on the TV, it’s the football game Tell your kids to shut up and go away Close your eyes when you see me on your sidewalk He does not sound like us … And the rest is the same as what you have

Nice job, I've never found lyrics for the ending! I think, however, they're saying "tell your kids just shut up and go away". I could be wrong though.

No, I think you got that line right but it's the last one...he's saying "Close your eyes when you see me on your sidewalk (He's nuts...not like us), while you and your rigid... etc."

@@rogerkolden7014 No charlies wright I would nearly steak my life on it. Plus it just makes more sense: why would Jello refer to the same person in the same sentence in the same phrase as you twice. Jello is Highly Intelligent and well spoken; he would make no such mistake grammatically, and would have no need to repeat the word to make it fit his rap.

@@goodboysic That's not the line He was complaining about. Nothing personal my man but read it again.

I always thought that man with the dogs is a personification of person's self-consciousness, a fear to have their true self exposed. If you look at lyrics from this point of view it makes a lot of sense, but that's what was always great about Jello. His lyrics have a lot of interpretations and it's for you to choose

I certainly agree with the Diogenes conclusion, and the points made by @ayo637. Diogenes of Sinope was a cynic philosopher, and he is depicted with a dog at his side and lantern in hand (which he would symbolically use in the day). He criticized his society from the standpoint of a beggar, which he adopted voluntarily. OP’s suggestion of Mengel does not quite hit the mark, only on the surface; There does exists “a Man and his Dogs” in everyone’s life, who for all of our efforts and pride, can expose and destroy us entirely. Diogenes is an effective universal figure for this elusive character archetype.
