When I was a kid my mom worked for Dillards Distribution center in north Ft Worth. Funny thing is even though she had a discount card we never shopped there. Said even with the card it was more expensive than we could afford. And yes that was a very cool fountain. Thanks for sharing.

I remember when this mall was built. It used to be really packed up until around 2000. What killed this mall was the local economy and then the internet completed killing iit off fast. This mall was the first to die off in the region. There used to be enough good paying jobs in the area until NAFTA was signed in 1994. Local factories started moving operations either to Mexico and Canada or outsourcing work. Just West of there is a large area of nurseries that employed locals. Those jobs were replaced with immigrants and migrant workers who dont spend money in the local area but send their money back to Mexico to support their families there. A good portion of those locals in that Ashtabula area were forced to drive roughly an hour away West to the Mentor/Cleveland area or to Erie, Pa for jobs that paid a living wage. So all of that played a big part in killing this mall off fast way before the other malls died. There was an awesome toy store there called Family Toy Warehouse and they were an original tenant. I think lasted until 2002ish. The last TGI Fridays that I can remember going to was at this mall too. I last went there about 5 years year ago to see a movie and it was super creepy walking in the mall at night because all of the closed up stores and no one in the mall.

I forgot to mention that the Radio Shack in the mall used to be located a little South of there in Jefferson, OH and moved there around 2017 or 18. The original radio shack in the mall closed around 2014 or 15.

I love me some mall videos, even if it is a dead mall. I especially loved the look inside RadioShack. So much nostalgia for me, having browsed/shopped at RadioShack often at the mall where I grew up. I can almost smell it. This RadioShack doesn't look too different from my childhood store. Also, I loved the use of Regina as the opening music. One of the overlooked artists of the 1980s. She only ever came out with one album in 1986 and had only one hit song ("Baby Love"). It's a shame she didn't have more success, as I quite like some of her songs.

AMC is closed now too. Ashtabula doesn't have any anything anymore. There's no movie theater now, the bowling alley burnt down, the skating rank closed. I think everyone just goes shopping at Walmart when they are board, lol. Anyway I have a lot of good memories of the mall. I spent a lot of time there as a teen, I also worked there and met my husband there. Now the only thing we go there to do is buy shoes.

Man, this mall closing down sure bums me out. I worked there early on as a construction electrician. Started out at J.C Penneys; was moved over to Dillards, as I had already worked on the Dillards in Mentor, Ohio (remodel). Had a lotta fun on this job; Mentor job, too. Damn shame these places are closing down. Heartbreaking.

I thought the shots of Radio Shack were from several years ago when I saw the picture. A mall in Seminole, Fl had a RS, and it was the last store left in the mall before it was demolished. Drive by at night and the big parking lot for the mall was dark and the neon sign for RS was the only light, as it had an outside entrance. The rest of the mall was all empty and eventually the wrecking equipment arrived to cart if all away. The food court had noon hour dances for the old folks, and they came by the hundreds to dance and socialize, even though most of the food court was empty. Happy Days isn't there anymore.

Oh my gosh hon I died and went to heaven when I saw that old donkey Kong video in RadioShack I used to have the little handheld model until the landlord stole it when he emptied our townhouse out in 1997 so that brought back so many memories of my late hubby who absolutely loved #donkeyKong thanks so much for this great video and happy memories

OK, that means that there were just 2 Malls in US that had a Super Kmart as an anchor (3:03). As Puerto Rico is (not a State yet, but) part of the US, there was a 165K sq. ft.* (> 15.3K sq. m.) Super Kmart (only one ever built outside of the 48 Contiguous US) at Las Catalinas Mall in Caguas, closed in January 31, 2019. * the store occupied roughly 1/3 of the space of the mall and it's finally after 3 years in the process of being reutilized mostly for an "entertainment center"

@iworkout69122 жыл бұрын
McDonald's has closed probably all their mall locations and maybe the Walmart locations also. They want free standing restaurants with the drive through, which those locations didn't have. If you see any in a mall I'd be surprised. At Walmart they were replaced mostly by Subway.
