This is just weird. I moved out of Arlington in January of 2016, and before that, I used to go to the movie theater at this mall. I would take friends to walk around the rest of the mall, because it was about 90% dead then. There was a pizza place right outside of the theater that refused to close (I don't know how he was able to afford to stay open), and about 10 stores clustered in a single wing of the mall. It was really weird because the rest of the mall was still open to pedestrians, although no one was ever there. So we got to experience the "dead mall" feel. Seeing it now featured on a Dead Mall video is just weird

For anyone curious, Foley's was Texas' Macy's. Around the mid 2000s Foley's was absorbed and bought by Macy's, thus all stores being rebranded with the Macy's name.

I just don't understand why some developers haven't come up with another use for these gigantic structures ? My idea was to turn them into luxury condo villas . Just imagine rain or shine and in some states snow , and everything you need is right there under one roof . From groceries , doctors and dentist offices . The big spaces could be used for the groceries and clothing or discount types of stores and the small spaces could be all the other common everyday things like the cleaners , laundry , legal offices .I guess no imagination hum ? Because the sheer ecological damage of demolition and filling up more land with construction debris is catastrophic . Guys pass on this thought because construction debris is rarely recycled and can last for thousands of years . Thanks again and I love your videos , and look forward to seeing more . Maybe I'm a bit of a mother goose , but I would like to see you guys wearing a hard hat at some of these places . Just a suggestion , and it comes from caring . Peace and prosperity to you .

I think a mall in Austin was turned into a community college? Or maybe it was another city, I can't remember. But it sounds like a good idea to me.
@SnowmanTF27 жыл бұрын
It is odd the guy they interviewed seemed so bent on getting research clients, I have seen some old dead malls just turned into a complex of general office buildings. The building looks in decent enough condition that it seems entirely plausible to use for that and the Metroplex seems like an area that could have some demand for that.
@0Orion7 жыл бұрын
It would be awesome if dead malls could be transformed in to huge VR/augmented reality play centers. Dan Bell recently showed a mall that was made in to a school. That's also a good alternative.

at the very least someone should be allowed to go in there and scrap parts. The overhead doors alone are worth thousands each. I just cant believe how such a beautiful building can just be scrapped.

I grew up with this mall in the 70’s. The three original anchors were Sears, Penney’s and the Dallas based Sanger Harris. Those painted white arches actually were beautiful tan bricks with dark reddish brown trim. The mall also had many planters with a lot of foliage. Sad to see it died like that.

This mall declined so bad in it's latter days. If it was maintained better, it may have stayed alive being so close to Six Flags Theme Park. It had power cords running throughout the mall at one point. It was dirty & we called the Dillards Outlet store "Dirty Dillards!" I miss that Dillards Outlet cause it had dirt cheap clothes for parties or formal dinners.

Stopped by this mall when I was in town in April for WrestleMania. I took a walk around the entire outside, then went I went inside to the movie theatre, all the while taking pics along the way. That one entrance on the outside, not sure if it was Foley's or whichever anchor, but it had a mural that reminded of the entrance to the Great Palace in Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. The main part of the mall was blocked off just past the movie theatre, but I still grabbed a few pics of the closed down eateries that were right there. What was striking to me was how eerily similar the movie theatre was in comparison to one in Warren, Michigan, at the Universal Shopping Center, which itself was a former enclosed mall. Both were Cinemark Theatres, so this makes sense, but it is interesting that they were both attached to two now dead malls. This further makes me wish the Universal Mall had received a video just like this one, alas the main portion of the mall was torn down in 2008. I did take a few pictures of the mall before it was gone, and got some very sketchy old camera phone footage though. Maybe I could make a video out of just that?

Believe it or not, Arlington had a third mall (Forum 303) halfway between Six Flags and The Parks. Only The Parks still stands today. Foley's actually started in Houston, and was bought out by Macy's. The San Antonio store was Joske's, which was in turn bought out by Dillard's. Six Flags Mall was plenty old enough for that Dillard's anchor to have started out as a Joske's.

I grew up in Arlington and went to this mall often. Once they opened the Parks Mall in the late 80’s it sealed the fate of this Mall. Foley’s was based in Houston and was bought my Macy’s. Most of the stores were converted to Macy’s with exception of this one in Six Flags mall. The area around this mall has turned into an industrial area. So very little retail is left. RIP Six Flags mall.

Dirt all over the floor? Haven't seen that at a mall, they completely gave up on everything right before close.
@jawilbu7 жыл бұрын
I was wondering the same thing. Anyone have an idea what this was? It was all in a circular pattern - there must have been some reason other than just random dirt
@yupyup15627 жыл бұрын
jawilbu Just a guess, but it looks to me like someone decided to steal some planters. In order to move them they had to remove the dirt. You see first attempt was digging dirt out with a couple square bins. Probably took too long and too much effort, so they began tipping the planters over to dump the dirt. The dirt is in a circle because the planters are narrower at the bottom so they roll in a circle. Once the dirt was out they took the planters.

I look at this video and can't help but remember all sorts of things. "That's where the Waldenbooks used to be where I bought Amiga magazines". "That was the Suncoast Video I bought anime tapes and old marked down Atari 2600 games in the late '80s". "I used to buy clothes from that Structure store where my friend worked". Sigh. The first sign that things weren't going well was that the Target store to the east of the mall closed in the early '90s. They outright said it was due to shoplifting. The area north of the mall suddenly had lots of strip clubs. The IHOP in front of the Toys R' Us closed and became a porno store, which the other local businessmen eventually got shut down and demolished. One by one the local restaurants and stores near the mall closed and became either industrial (like Target) or a low-rent restaurant (like the old McDonald's, Wendy's and Taco Bell buildings). You could see the area just erode in front of your eyes. Whereas the Forum 303 Mall a few miles away died shockingly quick, the fuse for that one started with the 1987 financial crash. Within two years most stores inside seemed to be empty other than one discount clothing store (with the ugliest shoe selection I've ever seen). But that's a different story.

Hopefully you guys make it out to AZ and see Fiesta and Metrocenter. Fiesta just lost its Best Buy. Metro's anchors are super 70s as well as Souper Salad. You may be interested in other things around town such as the Dillard's at Desert Sky Mall. It's an unremodeled former Diamonds department store. The arches in the mall remind me of lost Los Arcos Mall. I don't know the history of Foley's and if this includes Tecas, but I know they came under ownership of May Department Stores. When May bought out ZCMI in Utah, they used the Foley's name. In AZ, Goldwater's was bought out by JW Robinson's, then that became Robinson's May after the merger with May Co. Then when Federated bought out May, the stores became Macy's or Bloomingdale's. So Texas has a chain of restrooms named Sanitarios? Weird.

General Motors bought the land and has begun to build distribution warehouses for their parts suppliers. Arlington offered these companies tax breaks to move from Mexico to Texas. Don’t have many memories of this place being open, but they still kept the Cinemark open, and we would go there all the time because it was stupid cheap, but then they tore the place down which was a truly sad day.

I was curious myself about the song about 2 minutes and 30 seconds in. But if you go back to the beginning they put in description music by waterfront dining born deja vu you can find it hope this helps everyone who's asking what that song was

Nice mall-too bad it didn't survive.To think this is being demolished when Rolling Acres sat to rot all those years.Wish we could do something constructive with this space!!

Went to that mall only once around 2014 and saw Transformers 4. That's the only memory I have of that mall.
