Some Additional Info that was brought to my attention recently: The user fightclubhubbs kzbin.info/door/eOjrcme4kbnGv0rsX5cVEQ , has brought to my attention in the comments that many Tournaments, and Fight Competitions were using version 3.1 as the gold standard in their circles. He states, "Well since the website Dead or Alive Central is no longer around, All I can give you is that myself as a TO of 15 years and several other members of the DOA community ran 3.1 at events like Winter Brawl, Summer Jam, D.I.D, and Combo Breaker. Those other TOs/players aside from myself that also ran 3.1 were Sorwah, Tom Brady, Perfect Legend, and DOA Master." This is contrary to the research I looked at, as well as my personal experience with 3.2 being considered best. However, I am always open to new info, even on a 5 year old video. If you know of any other examples such as this conversation, don't hesitate to tag me in the comments, and highlight it for the whole community.

Dead or alive one through four are now officially backwards compatible on Xbox one and series. And the best part is that on Dead or Alive three you can actually change your region to play Dead or Alive 3.1 or 3.2 you don’t even need to buy a European or Japanese copy. You can use your North American disk and it will work

Unfortunately, since the channel went through a bit of a reboot and other projects have taken the brunt of my attention, the follow ups to this will be down the road a ways. I know a number of people have subscribed from this video, and I do apologies for a part two taking this long. Theres no sense in me pushing out a follow up though, when my hearts not it.

Another great video. Never knew DOA 1 and 2 both ran on Sega arcade hardware. Also never knew it was such a successful franchise that it saves Tecmo from bankruptcy. On top of that DOA 1 still looks amazing in motion and really deserves a less dusty existence on my shelf.

Dead or Alive 3, 2 Ultimate, and 4 are now available to download from Xbox Live, and the games are now backwards compatible with the Xbox One and Series X. I strongly recommend downloading either the European or Japanese versions of Dead or Alive 3 from Xbox Live since they offer better gameplay, more content, and more attacks for characters. To download them, purchase the game first, then change the region in the Xbox settings to either United Kingdom or Japan before downloading. Also, the physical versions are compatible with the American Xbox One and Series X.
@NYYanks20030405062 жыл бұрын
Phenomenal games, 4 as well. I didn't actually play DoA 1 until the 'Ultimate' port for the original Xbox. After Itagaki left, the series has gone downhill, imo, but I appreciate that MS and Koei Tecmo heard fan feedback and made the classics backwards compatible. It's awesome having them all on the Series X.

DOA 3 will always be my favorite in the series. but the first 2 were still great really good in depth retrospective

Fantastic overview! I loved the DOA series so much! It was by far my favorite 3D fighting game series! And especially those Itagaki days were so memorable, with this series pushing graphical and gameplay boundaries like nothing else. I remember going to the arcade in 1999 and seeing the graphics for DOA2 (some time after buying DOA1 for Saturn) and just thinking, "We have truly reached the next level." And then I played it and it was a dream to play. So smooth, easy to pick up yet complex, and enjoyable!

Now that I look back, DOA not only uses the game engine & moves of VF2, but also Fighting Vipers stage damage, instead of the ring out....
@TheSouthernSegaGentleman6 жыл бұрын
That transition came with DOA2 and the series move to a more cinematic approach. DOA was not exclusive in this move, but it was much different than other franchises where you were simply placed in a box.

Oooh, if you want a completed version of the DOA 2 story, they pretty much give you one in Dead or Alive: Dimensions on 3DS. It's basically the entire DOA 1-4 storyline in one go.

I've never been into fighting games at all, probably one of the reasons I'm one of the few people on the planet that doesn't enjoy any Super Smash Bros. game... and I do remember casually playing DoA on a Playstation at someone's house, but for me, really, it was "just another fighting game". That changed when I got my original XBox, which was the DoA Ultimate pack, and, as you do, you try out the games that come with it. The moment I heard that fantastic music by Aerosmith in the opening video for DoA2, that was it, I was hooked to the game!! I wanted to know more about the story, but even so, DoA3 didn't catch me on the same. And now, whenever I see footage of Kasumi in a DoA game, whichever it may be, I can't help but hum "Dream on"

The goraud shading on PSX DOA was brilliant-looking. Sega had a similar effect going in Fighter's Megamix and that game came out GORGEOUS as a result. If I ever get an OG Saturn it will literally just be for that game. (and probably Burning Rangers. And Panzer Dragon Saga. Damn.)

I enjoyed your Resident Evil 2 Saturn Port video and noticed you had a Dead or Alive video as well. I've come to really enjoy the series, but only got into it from DoA 4 onwards, so it'll be interesting to see this retrospective on the titles I've not experienced. 0:24 - I've never seen those 2D character select icons before and they look pretty cool. A shame no other entry has used them; I remember DoA Dimensions having some spectacular art on it's manual and wishing the game itself included such art somewhere. 2:05 - A shame the Saturn port never arrived overseas, as it does manage to look noticeably better than the PlayStation version later shown off. Also, Kasumi's bunny outfit in that first game is certainly different than what we get nowadays... wish they would add that in DoA 6. 6:12 - The jump of games like Dead or Alive and Soul Blade to their Dreamcast sequels is absolutely stunning. I do own a Dreamcast and would gladly pick up DoA 2 in stores if I ever saw it, but no luck so far. Oh, an great job explaining the Stun mechanics. Typically folks only bother explaining the Strike-Hold-Grab system when talking Dead or Alive, so it was nice to see some commentary on plenty of other mechanics. 8:08 - Revisions per region? I would have actually liked to hear you talk about that further in depth, or even throw some specific examples on screen but I understand keeping the nice length of this video. 11:30 - Gosh, now I really wish to pick up a classic Xbox and Dead or Alive 3, knowing that I (as someone from the UK) could get the best version of it. It also has my main, Hitomi, in it so it'd probably be easier to transition to than other entries. Oh, and this game still looks amazing! It's hard to believe it is a Gen 6 game with how good it looks. Fantastic coverage; concise yet detailed! I'd love to see your thoughts on the other DoA games in future!
@TheSouthernSegaGentleman5 жыл бұрын
When I get back home from this current job out of town, this is one of the topics I plan on restarting from the ground up, seeing as I left it so long ago. Hopefully I can give more coverage to each entry individually. And thankyou for all the compliments and suggestions.
