No fan of the "state of affairs" in public schools...there is is a very mixed bag of messages. The main one being simply "Stay in Line." Having survived public education in North and South . My impression is that underfunding of the schools, over stressing "testing" etc. has lead to an erosion of the inherent value of basic education- thus the great mis-trust of skin color motivated separation. By this I mean people's general awareness of the motives behind the education system, that people understand on a visceral level- that they are being lied to, or convinced through omission that things are different in reality than in personal experience. The "Usefulness" of what is being taught has degraded and continues to do so the more media advances. The question is will anyone in particular use the resources ( libraries, equipment, spaces of school to self educate) or simply abandon the enterprise entirely and live in a state of ignorance, willful ignorance and "blame" the very basic resources for their own failures in the"real world" - Educating yourself is only up to yourself in the end- As the Prez here demonstrate.
