Alex, as always you put out superb content. Thanks. I have also noticed only from watching this video, how intuitive splitting up the cons list into two sub-sections is: "what *I* didn't like", and "what others may not like". Granted, it may muddy the waters a tiny bit, but overall, I think it's a better approach in virtue of the benefits outweighing those of the other approaches!

Advantage of the combat being mostly luck mitigation is that even a passive player can potentially win fights against hyper aggressive combat players. That plus area denial with building up islands with defensive buildings makes even merchant focused players still a danger to offensive players.

Something I really liked is that you didn't waste time explaining the rules of the game. That may confuse some people, but you could easily warn them. I think the format is interesting, for sure. I liked how you acknowledged the limitation of only having played the game once. That's something needed in reviews because once is the number of times most people will play a game. One could argue it makes the video a "first impressions" video rather than a review video. In a review, I'm not expecting that type of disclaimer (whether you can review a game after playing it once is a whole nother debate. I take the side of "yes," but with limitations that you mentioned, like seeing other player counts).

The downtime, the length in general and the fiddlyness...I think I wait for more reviews and the second Kickstarter. If someone learns how to drop cubes down the ship to their advantage, and does so... then point out to them in the rules where it says they shouldn't do that. It's much the same as someone who fake rolls their dice to try to roll better. I do agree that currently it feels like backers are overpaying a little bit for the components. I saw one of their videos where they talk about how printing the components for card crafting is expensive, but it does feel as though the value is not necessarily there compared to other games. The legendary captain pledge also feels a bit lackluster compared to the base pledge. The base game has 200 card/advancements, 32 ship upgrades plus all the other components, and it's $79. Then the saga 1 expansion has 8 ship upgrades, 55 upgrades, and they price that at $45 but include it at the legendary pledge. So the saga contains less than a quarter of the content for over half the price. I was excited by the game, but I'm actually unsure of the value proposition for it once I step back and crunch the numbers. I'm hopeful that they release some amazing late additions in their daily reveals to really make it worth the money that they're asking people to put down. The multiple paid add-ons they have dropped are really an enthusiasm killer.

you did too much rule mistakes: - battle board is wrong bild up - the island control is if you haf MORE than other players and empty space - deck hand level 2-4 is an ifluence OR sail. not both. - icon x icon effects (e.g. weal) counts the icons on that card. not on the hand - the island effect is you can hold more cards. not you draw more cards. - the permanet control marker still count if you do not control the island anymore - draw 1 extra card is at the end of your turn. so for the next turn not for that turn. - forts help you defend the island. if you control an island with a fort, other players may not interact with that island (place or remove cubes, produce, load/unload)

Equally torn. I debated heavily canceling. I think the secondary market is likely the best bet given the fact that it's not the best value. The only reason I'm even on the fence is because I played it and loved it... If I hadn't, I guarantee you I'd be out right now. It's too bad of a deal to risk not liking it in my opinion.
@pierceostrander81464 жыл бұрын
Love the format. Good work. I'm cross posting my thoughts about game play: This game looks to have layers and layers of luck, massive down-time between turns and a very long duration, even with two players. It also seems to have the undesirable characteristic of slowing down with each subsequent turn. I tend to prefer games that speed up toward the end and end with a "bang". Because of this I really don't think I'd ever get into the Sagas, because they don't fix the basic flaws. So... I'll play someone else's copy, or wait until it drops down to $20-$30 for the base game in the geek market - just like Mystic Vale has. That, plus shipping is about what I'd risk to try this out.
@BoardGameCo4 жыл бұрын

@@BoardGameCo yea, I have gone ahead and cancelled my pledge. I mean alot of these purchases are emotional and when I try to put logic into it, I realise I am going in largely also for a "feel good" feeling. And so since that's not part of the deal and after all this have cooled and settled, I will not even realise that I am missing out on what might potentially be good game The irony of this world: we spend time to earn money and spend money to waste time (maybe a 1st world irony)

@@BoardGameCo haha, I think what is more exciting is the unfolding of the situation in the comments. I think alot of backers are still commenting in hope that the price will be adjusted But what amuses me more is how this is simulating what we are seeing in the world. Where difference in opinions escalate quickly into hate comments And that's the aspect that I think you have managed to handle very well. And contribute to the success of this channel. Am trying to learn how you do that (but I digress) I think here's where the business logic tends to be a bit contradictory (speaking from a strategy consultant view point). Lower prices can certainly help increase overall profit, as it creates demand. One good example is China (low cost products that generated alot more demand than charging high prices). After all basic economics is that a company can either control price or quantity... Sry, am also rambling here but found it comforting to speak to you through this mode after such a uneasy emotional rollercoaster

I just wish they went for deluxe components or more expansions like their previous kickstarters to make this a no brainer. This game is piece for piece the worst value of any product they’ve ever produced retail or kickstarter, and backing it is more of “I want it” than a good value.

There are two different kinds of value. One is whether you want that game for the price listed. Two is whether you can get a cheaper later. I am skeptical that you will be able to get this cheaper later, and my enjoyment of the game is such that I have no problem with the first one. That being said I recognize your point which is why I specifically addressed it in the video.
