@@stormburns I would love to and this needs a storage solution big time. I am disappointed they didn’t do a storage box. The crate is crazy expensive!!!! So probably not.

thanks Billy, have you set out on any adventures yet?
@BillyIndiana4 ай бұрын
@@Neon_Gorilla nothing too adventurous yet. We walked around Magnuson Park with our dog and took the grandkids to Pine Lake for a short hike and a swim. Headed to Point Defiance Zoo today to check out the new aquarium. Tomorrow just my wife and I are taking the ferry to Southworth and exploring over towards Sequim. Depending on the weather we'll either take in the sites and/or try to find a hike over there.

I love how this game looks and the idea behind card crafting but I’ll have to look at it again after we’ve moved when we have a designated game room. The length & setup/take down is long enough that we wouldn’t try it out for months.
@Neon_Gorilla4 ай бұрын
it would be nice to keep it up for a while and knock out a few games before putting it away

Big, epic with take that?? Sounds like it was made for our group! Also Letter of Marque's bounty sounds like a great way to hunt down mates, auto-include for my pledge 😁 Thanks for your review, it was helpful, especially your comment about sea dogs 👍 Our group struggles with campaign games though, would you say the sagas still work if they're used in one-off games? (Just to attend a light narrative event element to the game). Or if I use sagas must all my games be somewhat connected with the same players in a continuous way? Cheers!
@Neon_Gorilla4 ай бұрын
Glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching.
@Neon_Gorilla4 ай бұрын
The sagas can be used over time and nothing will be lost other than the other players being able to experience content unlocks. But the core content is now available for future games. We have discovered content through campaigns and one off games slowly over time.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown. It looks fun but I'm finding myself less interested lately in getting games with that level of time commitment.
@Neon_Gorilla4 ай бұрын

I really like Dead Reckoning but it is very long and very expensive for what it is too. The Saga Expansions are neat but I think I would get overwhelmed if I put all 3 in at once. I am hoping my wife will start playing with me more so we can play through more of the saga content. The new KS I am torn on... that is an expensive storage box... but I do like the idea of the Port of Call expansion. I think for most people if they really want the game, Core + Port of Call would be the way to go as well as adding on Sea Dogs. Then if you really want that campaign/story content get the Sagas but they are very much not required.

I agree with you assessment, price and accessibility hold this back quite a bit. love the box hate the price, the box seems like it is made for a lifestyle game that is central to someones collection and this is just not it. I would have been all in on a cardboard big box with gametrayz. Also shipping these boxes without damage will be a nightmare. Chip Theory found that with the trove chest. Mine to this day has a split panel which I was told to glue :(

I'm still looking for my dream pirate game as a solo player. Dead Reckoning looks beautiful and seems fun. But there are a few things I really enjoy. Rolling a lot of dice, and often (not in this game). Deluxe bits and beautiful art (check). And official soundtrack/app with ambience and voicework (nope). I think if it had 2 out of 3 I would be all in. But it's just not quite there.
@Neon_Gorilla3 ай бұрын
yeah solo is basically this and tiny epic pirates. Sounds like you might have identified a rare void in the market...time to start designing :)

I just have the base game and the two Sea Dogs additional character packs. Instead of going for the expansions/campaigns, I got the deluxe buildings/coins and the playmat. I really like the game (feels like a pirate themed Scythe to me in how you achieve objectives to win). I do think 3-4 players works better than 2 to force more interaction/competition
@Neon_Gorilla4 ай бұрын
I did not address player count but when we play 3 + it’s just to long an experience. I can’t remember which saga gives it but there is another ocean board that you can add in a two player game (not officially) to tighten up the board a bit. I have coins and playmat which I love. (Mat is a bit thin but works) I didn’t do the buildings though. Worth the upgrade?

This is a game that I want to like but guess it is not for my group. I’ll stick with working through my shelf of shame rather than adding to it for now. Someday though…. It’s on the list.

Is it the length?
@Jedduh4 ай бұрын
@@Neon_Gorilla that’s most of it. I actually think they’d like the player interaction/battles. I am prone to fomo so I guess I’m looking at it as an all or nothing decision. Maybe should think about just the base game and the expansion you recommended.
@Neon_Gorilla4 ай бұрын
@@Jedduh I know it is so tough to not go all in on something never hitting retail. The base is more than enough if I’m honest. Still not a cheap game though

the layered card upgrades had me like OMG I MUST HAVE THIS, then you showed the battle system and was I immediately moved to NOPE I'M OUT (because of the randomness of the cube tower, not the take that aspect)
@Neon_Gorilla4 ай бұрын
to be fair in battle many other battle systems involve dice so I guess it is similar from a luck perspective. The card crafting aspect is top tier!
@marcness664 ай бұрын
I think it's an interesting take on a battle system. It actually got me interested in it. Understandable that a luck based system isn't for everyone, though.
@Panamaniac3D3 ай бұрын
@kimklisiak6421 if you want a game with the same card upgrade system you can try Mystic Vale, also by John D Clair. It uses the same system and is super good. It takes a lot of setup and takedown, so just be aware of that. There is an app for it that is pretty good if you want to try that before buying the game. If you do go for the board game I would suggest getting the “Essential Edition,” which adds three small expansions to the base game that really help boost the variability and replayability.

Hello, I'm going to back Dead Reckoning and I would like to know what the best expansions are.
@Neon_Gorilla3 ай бұрын
My official recommendation is.... 1. just base game and all the sea dogs is minimum and honestly all you will need for a while. 2. If you like the idea of saga content I like saga 2..... 3. If you want the best of both worlds and get letters of marque because it gives you saga content and the new module to play with. If you have to have an expansion I think this is the one to get. Port of Call is the expansion to get after you have become board and need to spice it up so that is last on the list for me.
