Very helpful and the last pulling examples by Duffin really helped me, along with his right or wrong statement. Thank you. I am 71 years old and have been doing touch and go for over twenty years, along with the low rep and single resets. So this was very helpful. Never injured myself. I do touch n go at 225 to 255 now for reps. I hand split my cords of firewood. Today I was mortaring and laying cement block repairing my chimney on the 6 in 12 pitch metal roof of my house. Power lifting and general body building training have kept me able to work physically very hard. I replaced my ranch gate 12" diameter 13 foot high log posts by hand, (no lifting equipment), broke up the old concrete footing with a heavy duty SDS concrete drill this last spring. Of course, after serving a few tours in Vietnam, this stuff doesn't seem that tough. So, everybody keep working out.

So happy to have come across this video, I hit 260kgx5 touch and go at 85kg and was constantly wondering if I’m doing something wrong. Now I know to continue 🙏🏽

I watched a video where Ed Coan was talking deadlifts and he said that he doesn't completely reset for a dead stop rep, he just doesn't lose tightness at the bottom, and specifically trains that way in order to become better at holding that tightness. That was something I had never tried before, and have since tried to do it for at least a couple reps, until I get tired and feel like I have to reset. Interested in your opinion on that.

yea i think thats the best of both worlds

it is. dead stop BUT staying tight.

Interesting perspective about staying tight for the touch and go reps; seems like that would lend itself to much better form as well. These types of videos are very informative and much appreciated. Thanks Chris!

Don't forget a lot of Deadliftbars have more slack, with 500+ touch and go's reps almost become rackpulls.
@kazmiller77198 жыл бұрын
You don't even rep 500+ Special bars don't give THAT much slack
@kwhuisman8 жыл бұрын
I said almost. You often see lifters now mentioning using a stiff bar for sets. (Dan and Rubish). What I ment to say is that it's not just Touch and go vs deadstop because of the different bars.
@ericfrullaney27428 жыл бұрын
Rubish said he doesn't do stiff bar deadlifts anymore and hasn't in a long time

my gym only has a stiff bar. when I compete my deadlift goes up 30-40lbs just from using a deadlift bar

I do touch and go with a slow negative. I've been doing dead stop deadlifting on my squat days for back-off sets, and it seems equally as easy. Reps 2 through 5 are easier than rep 1 even with dead stop deadlifting.

How do you feel about the full lockout of the hips when you’re doing excessive volume? I ask because I choose to not lockout entirely when going for touch and go
@StrongButAwkward8 жыл бұрын
Would you say that this guideline somewhat fits your recommendation? When doing sets/reps for volume (eg: doing 3x5 DLs on Monday for a Texas Method style program), touch and go would be useful in giving you better ToT and making sure you get in your volume. When trying to test/determine rep maxes (eg: doing a 5RM or 3RM DL on Friday for a Texas Method style program) dead stop between each rep and get tight each time for a more honest indicator of your actual maxes.

So...for touch and go, when do you breathe? If you breathe any time during the touch and go, you have lost true effort tighteness. Sure, you can remain tight, but it's not the same as full tighteness. Touch and go is actually easier for me. Pausing at the bottom, taking full brace breath, and tightening everything, removing slack in body, full body activation, then lift... Feels like it takes more effort. If I go for reps, I do the negative portion a little faster on the way down, not just dropping the weight. Remember as mentioned, neither are wrong...personal preference.

for a beginner still learning the movement and core technique. will it benefit me doing singles using my 5 rep max (starting strength 5 rep max)?
@dozermendoza8 жыл бұрын
Erik Ken Quijano I don't recommend touch and go if learning the movement and best positioning for your body. You need good solid practice lifts. Each rep experimenting to find what stance, grip width, hip position you feel the strongest. Everyone is different. Touch and go with lighter weights is good for added volume and strengthening your connective tissues. To answer your question... follow the program for now(it's a linear progression program and you will stall) Then after 2 deloadsand restarts, move to a program that offers long term growth...such as Beyond 5/3/1, or similar programming.

Whatever gets you gains, whatever beats the next guy. I trained with max form police form for years and would see guys training touch and go and crap form and then show up at meets and blow my mind. Needless to say I relaxed my form and joined the gainers and smashed.

I feel like I lose my edge when I stop and reset each rep. I don't have that rage like focus. I think I'm going to stuck to touch and go for the most part and throw in some heavy singles to know where I am at strength wise for meets

Bodybuilding is no sport. Alot of bodybuilders go for half reps, to "feel" the muscle more.
