Finally, your channel isn't limited to only stones. Now we have sticks and stones... may break my b- Second thoughts, maybe go back to the stones. On a serious note, would you consider making different theme types of warp portals (Icy, flamy, rocky)?
@Miscast7 жыл бұрын
Hahah! I'd love to make some sort of warp portals, a friend of mine made an amazing one with LED lights, I'd like to try something like that for sure, once I work out a unique design, I'll do a video

My man...for the few number of videos you have out there, you are consistently one of THE BEST terrain crafters I have seen. Your work combines the quality of several much more well-known channels with the ease of several DIY casual youtubers. and of course, you have probably the best production quality as well. Don't sweat us having to wait longer for videos if you cant make them this often in the future, we will all patiently await your return. As an aside, if you need ideas for your next terrain, maybe either something icy or something modular like tiles for a tabletop RPG? Would be really cool to see how you tackle those in EVA foam.
@Miscast7 жыл бұрын
Damn dude, thank you for the kind words that really means a lot. I'd love to do modular tiles and I've had it on the top of the list since I've began but every terrain builder and his dog has at least 1 tile video, some even have channels nearly dedicated to it. So I'm holding off until I can find a way to really separate myself. I have some D&D games coming up so maybe now is the time! Stay tuned!

Very nice idea and tutorial! Be wary of stabbing yourself on the pointy branches though. I found out, that you can use baking soda instead of baby powder, it creates a similar effect.
@Miscast7 жыл бұрын
The spears on my metal models are pointier! You can always file the wire down at the points or use thicker wire, but I found the texture rounds over the ends nicely, and it stands up to play testing. Yes baking soda will have the same effect! This is my first time using baby powder, I used baking soda previously. They react the same way to super glue but have different consistencies in texture.

I've been experimenting with making trees. Picked up 165 feet of garden twist tie for $1 at Menards (like a Lowes or Home Depot), made a tree, covered them in thick hot glue, covered each of those in drywall filler, another in Durham's Water Putty and another in a home made Sculptamold (Durham's and shredded toilet paper) and all came out good enough. So many ways to make these crafts of ours.
@codisnow97355 жыл бұрын
In case any one is watching these recently. I used Pipe cleaners and Oven bake clay instead of wire and epoxy. Works really well. Basically make the tree out of pipe cleaners hit with a torch lighter to melt the "fur" from the wires then cover the wire base with oven back clay. Then hit the clay with a torch lighter and it "cooks" the clay well. This video inspired me in a sense thats why im posting this in case anyone else is making them and dont want to use epoxy and what not

@Miscast5 жыл бұрын
Yes. All the brands of plumbers/modelling epoxy are slightly different. Games Workshop is slightly rubbery and has a long drying time. Milliput is very strong and sculpts like clay. My favourite for this application is milliput and I buy it online because its cheaper than the hardware store. Hope that helps

OK, I'm not sure what the protocol is for asking questions on a vid that's nearly two years old, but what's the deal with the toothpicks shoved into the base? Just to add strength or am I missing something?
@Miscast5 жыл бұрын
They're there to prevent warping from the glue. :) 2 years later however I've learned this is easily remedied by just putting an 'X' of glue on the other side. :)

Not sure if you have already answered this, but why do you put sand onto the base after you paint the tree and not before? I would have done the sand before priming. Is there an advantage you see in doing it the way you do it?
@Miscast5 жыл бұрын
No advantage, I just didn't know how I was going to base it until the end :) Most of the time it will all be primed together, then painted together, then flocks applied.

Would it be easier to use green stuff or clay?
@Miscast6 жыл бұрын
In this video I'm using a generic modelling/plumbers epoxy. Green stuff is just another brand of modelling epoxy, they all perform a little bit different to each other but they're fundamentally the same. Modelling epoxy dries pretty tough (or in Green Stuff's case, slightly flexible) and I find it much easier to work with. Clay on the other hand would not be very good as when it dries it as it becomes very brittle and any flex of the armature will result in cracks and chips. Try to find the cheapest modelling epoxy for projects like this. Hope that helps!
