This one seems slightly like a straw-man. Those of us concerned about societal attacks on the family, don't think that somehow the family will cease to exist - though I concede that some people have obviously thought that, and likely still do. Rather, the "mainstream" of that view, insofar as it exists, believe that the evidence suggests that there are major portions of society which are actively working to destroy the family unit. I don't think that their efforts will eventually be effective, collectively.... but I'm not a collectivist, outside of the family unit. Many individual families are destroyed by these social and societal pressures. Many parents choose to forego having children, until it's later in life; only to discover, to their dismay, that they can't - or that the cost of doing so is so financially burdensome that they can only have 1 or 2, if any. We see many who've been convinced that they should put off having a family until they "can afford it" whatever that means - and discover that they never can. We see older generations of people who discover themselves to be alone, without purpose, and without support in their final years - having never had children to care for them. Their quality of life is greatly reduced, until they finally become a financial burden on the social system, while being shewed into some corner where they can't see, or be seen. There are fewer divorces, an amazing fact; but there are fewer marriages, and that's a grim fact. There are fewer teen pregnancies, which is also wonderful; but there are fewer pregnancies (per capita, of course), which is not. There is less teen crime, which is indisputably fantastic; but the entirety of the crime rate has declined - so does it act as evidence of families as strong as in the early 90's? I don't think the logic follows, though I may be persuaded to the point. We do spend more time with out families - which is a lovely side effect of our need to work fewer hours, I suspect; but one wonders about the quality of that time? Surely, for some, it's as good or better than it ever was; but one wonders if that's true of most? I don't have data on the topic, only suspicion. The number of children born out of wedlock has skyrocketed - and the following dearth of a two parent household has resulted, at least indirectly (though I think the data suggest *very directly*), in skyrocketing rates of depression and anxiety; of massive increases in suicide (particularly among men); ...of pushes for socialized social systems and/or open communism (this may not be as clear - but, again, to me the link is convincing). The destruction of the family may never fully succeed - I don't think it will. I do not think that it is arguable that many very influential portions of society are *intentionally* attempting to weaken or destroy it - after all, the dissolution of the family unit is fundamental to Marxist Communism. But since I'm not a collectivist, it doesn't need to be successful in the destruction of the family unit, in whole; the destruction of individual family units is concerning enough. Nonetheless, even when I disagree, I enjoy and embrace your work! Thanks for what you do!

Divorce rates have diminished… What about marriage rates? You can't divorce and break a traditional family if that family does not exist.

Yes, he ignores a LOT of pertinent facts. He is basically trying to deny the problem by saying "Oh, we can just change the definition."

"Today the overwhelming majority of black children are raised in single female-headed families. In 1925 New York City, 85 percent of black families were two-parent. Today's black illegitimacy rate of nearly 75 percent is also entirely new. " From The True Black Tragedy By Walter E.Williams, "black" professor of economics at George Mason University

The traditional family might be in trouble but it has been on several occasions in history already. It's just a minor slump. There is nothing the most important building block of society could not recover from.

In previous periods in history the technology for global government and imposition of intersectionalism didn't exist yet. We shall see if things rebound or if we go full Orwell.

Almost half of American kids are born out of wedlock today. When it comes to American blacks, it's 75%. American Indians, 60%. Hispanics, 50%. Whites, 30%. In 1960, 23% of blacks were born out of wedlock and only 3% of whites were born out of wedlock. Less than a third of American black children grow up in a household with both biological parents being married. When looking at trends, it's clear that the traditional family structure, at least in America, is disintegrating. At the root of it is the welfare state and feminism.

I mean 1970 compared to 2000, there is 15% less nuclear families. The nuclear family is also choosing to have fewer children than in the past. The percentage of married-couple households with children under 18 has declined to 23.5% of all households in 2000 from 25.6% in 1990, and from 45% in 1960.

Explain to me how it is possible that mothers now spend twice as much time with their children than 50 years ago? Only a small portion of mother's held full time jobs in the 60s, now that is the norm. Does the study cited somehow account for that because it seems impossible by virtue of the number of women that are no longer full time homemakers.

I'm reading a book called "Alienated America: Why Some Places Thrive While Others Collapse" (www.amazon.com/Alienated-America-Places-Thrive-Collapse/dp/0062797107) The author, a Timothy P. Carney, makes the case that family norms have indeed shifted away from long term marriage, and that more children than ever before, per capita, are being raised without a consistent adult male presence. He backs up what he says with myriad social studies. I'm sympathetic to the perspective that points out that marriage is indeed still an institution, and that some of our social projections were overly alarmist. However, it doesn't seem like a real or valid point to argue that families are always in flux, and that our current situation is not extreme in the history of the world.

Healthcare doesn't help me pay for a home. A small home used to cost about the same as 1 years wages. That means where I live a I need to make $100,000/yr. I don't. You are stuck in pay should be as low as possible, so someone else can have a yacht. Then if I get more one place, I should get less somewhere else. But I'm not a sanctimonious Puch, so what do I know.
