Tatars were muslim but they also were king's servants. It doesn't change the main reason for a fast military aid to Vienna. It was mainly religious, germanic countries like Austria, were not polish friends (but brothers in faith) so it would be an opportunity to just leave them to the wolves. Polish forces arrived and - straight from the long way there - they attacked islamist army's camp. Ottomans fell into panic and have been decimated. Polish citizens saved Viennese' lives and they were entitled to all the loot, but they've just taken some leaving the rest to the locals... In just 100 years the same Austrians plotted and schemed with other evil empires to partition Poland among them... There is a lesson here - can you see it?

It should have just started "The story of the west is a story of the conflict between Christendom and Islam." In keeping with the format of every other "Dead Wrong". (Did he want to shoe horn the words "nativist right" into it for some reason? He previously covered a study that looked at the economic and social views of populations that showed that there is a correlation between prefering freedom across both aspects, thereby putting to rest many right wing stereotypes. He's covering history before the words "right wing" had any meaning so its not obvious that the concept needs to be invoked at all.)

I guess because this video is so short, he oversimplifies the conflicts. It's not black and white, it's all gray. Today one king's enemy is tomorrow's friend. Alliances were being made and broken all the time, sometime religion was a reason that Country A aligned with Country B, sometimes it wasn't.

Reminds me Italians Wars which started in 15 century. French king wanted to conquer Naples and then retake Jerusalem from Turks. This was his mission. Eventually during the late stages of this wars France made an alliance with the Ottoman Empire against her enemies.
