Disagree SOME with the hips too low tip (although you dont want to be too low). You want leg drive, having your hips to high CAN encourage back rounding, and you can lose power and leverage by starting too high. Depends on the stance too. If legs are wider apart than your hips can be higher
@ohhai810 жыл бұрын

Baconsammich Well yes. Getting lower lets you get your legs involved for more power which they should!! Why would anyone want to put all that force on the hamstrings and lower back? I'm one of the smaller guys in my gym's free weight area and yet, 95% of the time, I'm the only one who ever does deadlifts (or free weight squats, for that matter) in there while all the grunting dudebrahs do nothing but bench/overhead press and biceps curls.
@mohdtaufikmohammad405510 жыл бұрын
Maybe you haven't seen them do that? I mean, you can't be there all the time right?
@chris_198810 жыл бұрын
Mohd Taufik Mohammad Yeah, I meant 95% of the time I'm there. But there's always people at the benches, people using dumbbells for curls, etc. Only the squat rack is standing there in the corner with no one even looking at it. (Also, there is only one squat rack in the entire gym, but at least 5 smith machines)
@mohdtaufikmohammad405510 жыл бұрын
Chris 95% of the time? You work there or something?
@chris_198810 жыл бұрын
Mohd Taufik Mohammad Nooo, I mean of those ~9 hours I spend at the gym every week, 95% of the time (= 8.55 hours) no one is using the squat rack. I'm not saying I'm at the gym 95% of the week (that would be 159.6 hours).
@mohdtaufikmohammad405510 жыл бұрын
Chris That's my point. Perhaps people are using it when you are not there. I mean, even at my gym people seem to not do the deadlift, but I can't say for sure because the gym is open for 10 hours and I'm only usually there for a max of 2 hours. I just learned that at night, more experienced bodybuilders are working out at my gym, but at the time I usually go which is around 4pm, mostly there are just people who seem to have just started learning to work out.

Paige Chamberlain yea thats why every single strong man or any experienced lifter holds the breath. It acts as an internal buttress.
@VapidSlug9 жыл бұрын
+Cooper Carr I need no instruction on the purpose of valsalva. If you are looking at strongmen or competitive lifters, your argument is misplaced as those who say squats should exceed 100 degrees knee flexion. For strongmen and olympic lifters, it is OK because lifting weight is their performance measure. They will valsalva to get the absolute maximum lift (a trade of risk for benefit). For athletes who have a performance measure other than lbs/kg lifted, there is zero benefit for the added risk.

I'm glad you acknowledged the over/under grip. If you can handle the weight with an overhand grip, you don't need the over/under, and if your grip strength progresses with your deadlift, you'll avoid the precarious stretched bicep position of the underhand grip, which can be dangerous when handling heavy weight. Although this was recorded in March 2018, it’s easy to infer better Covid19 recovery is also an outcome! His goal is to achieve adaptation through strength training, which wisely includes periods of recovery after lifting focused on the big muscle groups. He begins with bench presses, squats and of course, deadlifts. Whatever else you do or not, do these, 3 sets of five each, 3 times a week. Well, you can start with 3 sets of 1. Do them right!

Unless your powerlifting... then you always want to use a mixed grip and a belt for your working set(s) ... so that every lift is exactly like your competition lift and there is no surprises at a meet
@heatbucspies5510 жыл бұрын
Did you say when you are powerlifting or unless?
@thefluffychewbacca10 жыл бұрын
i implied that when your powerlifting ...... saying that what they said is true unless your powerlifting
@1TieDye110 жыл бұрын
many powerlifters don't agree with that.
@thefluffychewbacca10 жыл бұрын
what powerlifters agree that you should train with the form that your going to use in a meet ?
@1TieDye110 жыл бұрын
ben rice and candito to beltless work for extra core strength. for a while brandon campbell was working on double overhand as much as possible. candito trains with a high bar but competes with low bar and he trains touch and go but, of course, pauses in competitions. even dan green trains with high bar instead of low bar (for whole training cycles, not just as an accessory lift. granted, when they peak for a meet they train in their competition styles. anyway, there are a bunch of really strong guys that train in a different way than they compete.

I always find myself being able to lift a heavier with an over under grip. Is there something wrong with that grip, cause I've heard mixed things about it.
@scottfarr33318 жыл бұрын
over under is just a more secure grip than double overhand. If you're competing in powerlifting, you will likely need to do over under or hook grip to hit the biggest pull you can. Otherwise, there is no reason to not use straps once you've hit that grip strength wall.

For a deadlift you should be able to lift atleast 1.5times your weight maybe even 2x if youre lifting only 70kg you arent deadlifting enogh weight unless you weigh less then 40kg
@lizstsymphony90608 жыл бұрын
this is way wrong... stop trying to educate people with misinformation. a 2x dead lift is generally pretty strong for anyone, and is not common to an average joe. %'s also vary for people depending on body weight, body type, and manu more factors.

Try going down as slow as possible and push your gluteus maximus(your butt) back while you come down. This should activate your hamstring. Give it a try.
@VandalCleaver8 жыл бұрын
The deadlift is a back lift,doing it conventional will hit your lower back with a vengeance,however the beauty is that it can be modified to hit your legs almost as well as a squat.Try sumo deadlift,engage your quads and hammies on the way up,you'll feel it for sure.

Drive the bar with your legs off the ground and keep your back neutral.
@AnthonyBachour9 жыл бұрын
First of all his form is horrible and he's using the same shoes he told you not to use. Why is his form horrible? His stance is way too far apart and no use of leg drive. Also if you want to use straps go ahead but don't let it hinder your grip strength but don't limit yourself and not use a belt if you want to. The belt will help strengthen your trunk and provide you a solid area to push against with your abs forcing you to stay tight. If you want a better video go watch Jonnie Candito's tutorials he is probably one of the best sources to date.

Anthony Bachour I couldn't agree more. He comes across as one of those gym bros, who has shit technique, yet tries to correct you on your form. I'd have never taught Deadlifts to anyone in this manner whilst I worked as a trainer (and yes, I am qualified before anyone jumps on me about that). Aside from that, I have always struggled to take advice from anyone who's forearms are bigger than their calves 😄😄
@summeromaley42989 жыл бұрын
Nick Seagrove He actually doesnt come off as a gym bro, he has a very good form and technique (im speaking as someone with competence in physiotherapy and rehabilitation, before YOU jump to any conclusions) and excellent advice in general, on other video too. So maybe you should check your references on technique before you conclude something is shit. Its your technique that could be shit perhaps? If its a struggle for you to take his advice, then i guess you havent heard yet that all of life is a struggle. Now you know. Cheers.

Great video. Everything you ever wanted to know about the deadlift but were afraid to ask.
@NSSTalks10 жыл бұрын
I like you guys, but this one wasn't your best. Your form didn't look to hot either. That super wide stance is not ideal. Also, the shoes you are wearing are terrible for deadlifts, but you mention not wearing certain types of shoes. Your shoes should be in that category. Also, the thing about deadlifts hitting your shins is wrong. For most lifters that will actually be the correct bar path. Virtually all top powerlifters will have bruises or scars on their shins from deadlifting unless they wear high socks when they train.
