It's actually for tactical reasons. At the battle of Baal, Dante observes the Swamlord go straight to attack him with no signal or battlecry, mentioning that everything the Tyranids do is efficient and never without reasoning. The Tyranids are known to brutalise their opponents in bloody fashion to lower the morale of the enemies. The same goes for their screams. The Swamlord knew Dante's death would destroy the defender's morale, so it screamed to draw attention as Dante was about to die.

It's notable that the swarmlord is the only tyranid that persists throughout every hive fleet, meaning that it's essentially the exact same swarmlord who is just fighting for a different fleet. I have done this comparison before, but it is like some basic antibody that all humans have, and stays the same throughout, even if other antibodies (ie warriors, gaunts, lichtors, etc) evolve and adapt from different peoples' experiences. This means that it may be the "perfect" tyranid, who isn't specialized in any role besides leading a swarm and fulfilling the role as the ultimate combat bioform. It's like the scene from Alien, when ash was talking about why he couldn't let the xenomorph be destroyed because it was such a pure and perfect creature. In other news, I think it would be cool to talk about the red terror or the Doom of Malan'tai!Unless you've already.

Presumably it's like a backup server, so that there can still be something with, while not equal to the Hive Mind, certainly competent levels of tactical and strategic thinking to command Tyranids in the case that they're cut off from the Hive Mind. Presumably the Tyranids would have encountered something like that at least once in their campaigns. That's really the only reason I can think of for why a hive mind would develop independent-minded organisms.

Genestealer cultists can fall to Chaos. Also a band of Iron Warriors used the Obliterator Virus on a Hiveship so they could ride around in it. As for the Swarmlord, it might be severed with enough Blackstone, but I doubt it.

Yeah, the swarmlord only smacked Calgar because he'd kinda been fighting in a big ol' battle for the how long. Probably taking some minor injuries and fatigue, before the swarmlord then arrived to almost kill him. Swarm Lord lost every other fight against the chapter master who just punch it to death.
