Deadly Ferret INSULINOMA - What owners MUST know!

My female ferret currently has Insulinoma. This video was extremely informative. My ferret, Trixie, was diagnosed at 3 1/2 years old and is currently almost 4 1/2 and stable. Thank you so much for making this video and helping spread information on this awful illness.

My male ferret was sadly put down last year at only 1 year and 7 months old due to insulinoma. It was when I got the pdsa involved due to his weight loss because the local vets (i live in a very small place) i'd been taking him to had no explanation for it but they said he was fine, but i felt something was definitely wrong with him. The pdsa kept asking if i was sure that he was only 1 year and 7 months, as apparently insulinoma doesn't happen in ferrets until around 4/5 years old. He technically died when he was only 6 months old but i managed to bring him back with cpr and mouth to mouth and got him to the local emergency out of hours vet...but they didn't have an answer for me then and said he was healthy. I had no idea about insulinoma in ferrets and neither did my local vets. Thank you for your very informative series. I know alot more now. R.i.p Raizo ❤❤❤

Aww thats so sad. Poor Raizo. Well done for saving him at 6mths old though. Tumours and cancers form due to gene mutations as a result of continued stress or trauma to specific cells. Therefore ordinarily it takes time for the stress on the cells to create the necessary gene mutations which result in tumours, which is why the vets were surprised he was so young. But as always, there will be a range of speeds in which it occurs and Raizo has been unlucky. ❤️

@@kingsdownferrets8485 my 1st ferret I got in 2014 (also called Raizo) was completely deaf but I managed to make up some sort of sign language for him to understand what I wanted him to do. We had signs for "no", "good boy" and "go home" (his home was my old backpack from school with a wooly blanket inside). He died from prostate cancer at 4 years old, which I had no idea was a thing in ferrets either. I'm learning a lot and won't get another until at least next year when I find a good enough breeder and am confident that I can care for them better than I have been. Your channel is really helping me ❤️

My boy, Koda, passed away from an insulinoma induced seizure this past December. He got diagnosed in May last year and it was a couple months before diagnosis that I noticed any significant symptoms. Insulinoma is the most awful disease a Ferret can get and it makes me wish it could be completely cured. Koda might still be with me now if he could've been cured, but he lived to be 6 and a half years old. He didn't deserve to spend his final moments suffering from seizures, nor pass the way he did, and those sounds he made are engrained in my mind. I miss him dearly...

@kingsdownferrets8485 Especially here in the US where it's extra prevalent because of poor gene pools in mill bred Ferrets, alongside the crud known as Marshall's Kibble that said Ferrets are unfortunately raised on. I also believe that Koda's adrenal gland disease accelerated the progression of his insulinoma. He had no issues before the adrenal symptoms took hold, and it seems after that, it brought it out of him.
