I was living in Simi Valley when the Northridge Earthquake hit. I was also working for the L.A.Times. as a Service rep. All the areas hit and damaged in the quake were my service areas. Northridge, Reseda, Granada Hills, Santa Clarita, Sherman Oaks, Valencia. I was off that morning or I would have been on the interchange of the 5 freeway going towards Valencia. This is one day I will never forget. Some many lives lost, so much damage. " Also we have San Andreas fault line running through Simi Valley. Plus many different earthquake faults running through the USA.

I was living in Van Nuys. It was very scary. I was home alone. I thought a big rig crashed into our building. We lived across from the 405 fwy on Haskell Ave and Van Owen...... We moved back to LA. 😇

I lived in Van Nuys at that time and we experienced the power outages, nearby stores were shutdown, my son, in bed, slid across his bedroom, kitchen cabinets were flung opened with contents on the floor and I can say so much more. I worked for LADOT field ops and we had to go out and reconfigure roadway markings for traffic control as well as to post special parking signs, I'll never forget that time and I took pictures of the damage from one end of the San Fernando Valley to the other.

I was there. I lived in Sepulveda which I think is now North Hills. I lived on Parthenia near Sepulveda Blvd. I lived in a single apt with my daughter and our cat. We were ok, thank God. I prayed and prayed for God to keep us safe. My apartment was in shambles with glass all over my kitchen floor. But I knew our Angels were keeping us safe bc everything fell off of my nightstand except my Bible. I live in Arizona now but I do still think of that day every so often and it still gives me anxiety.

So incredibly jealous and in awe. Tokyo took that 9.0 for 4 minutes with minimal damage. Skyscrapers swaying, moving back and forth, but not breaking. The peak of human engineering.

Yeah it’s incredible how strong earthquakes they get but they don’t get that much damage, at least not for a 8.0+ . They get it really bad too, strong earthquakes and then tsunamis 😣 their engineers are top notch

I was asleep & my Dad who was working for Hollywood at that time had just got home from a long day of shooting to wake me, my Mom & my twin sister cuz he felt the earthquake as he walked in the house. We ran outside & stayed in the car all night. We woke up hours later & saw the damage to our neighborhood. 1 tree broke & crash landed on the roof of our church accross the street. Everyone in their Pj's & some were heading to work only to come back & noticed there was so much traffic

Does anyone wonder why there’s no footage of the main quake? It exists with most major quakes from 1909 ‘till now, why not ours? Why not with the Northridge quake?
@oliviab35667 ай бұрын
My assumption would be that there is no footage due the time it occurred at- 4:30am when most were sleep.

I wondered this too! All I’ve seen are the pics of the aftermath but not any of it actually occurring. I was in the area at the time but I was only 3 so I don’t remember it. I can’t imagine how loud and scary it must’ve felt. 😢

When my family learned that was NOT the Big One....we left. I blame it for my fascination with the power beneath our feet. All you can do is try to stay out of her way. The entire West Coast is a ticking time bomb....

The appartments collapsed because the construction company did not attach the support brackets on the subterranean parking that supports the living spaces above. All companies and agencies signed off in the work as complete and concise. Yet, entire floors were missing massive amounts of attachment hardware. How many buildings are out there today in the same position. Somone signed off, got paid?

I hate follow up news like this on disaster events past. No one is ready for this and no one can prepare for this. Sing up for what? 30 second warning if you even get that warning? So dumb. All of us were there and we’ve experienced others like this for those of us living near or around this megapolis, and you can’t prepare for these things. The damage is so wide spread with everyone and everywhere is in a chaotic state. The thing that got me the most was why idiotic people were in their cars under the two level subterranean garage shortly after the quake happened in our building in Woodland Hills. I heard car after car starting up. Unbelievable. Just where I want to be underneath 50 tons of concrete when the aftershocks hit seconds after.

After the massive earthquakes in Japan , Indonesia, Taiwan and Turkey where cities wiped out, ground shifted, tens of thousands dead over nigh, Tsunami aftermath etc….this clip looks like an exaggerated joke. Most people in LA don’t even know the magnitude decreases via distance nor what to do when the quake hits. Lastly, it cant be predicted. The best alert in Japan gets few seconds prior, that’s it.
