Even back then, this production wasn't technically groundbreaking. It's the music that made it stand out. "Faxing Berlin" sounds very melancholic whereas most similar tracks, especially at the time when trance was popular, would've been more uplifting.

@passje80076 жыл бұрын
the cowbell has its place in this repetition, thats why it works, which is brilliant, as it is very difficult to make that work, that much repetition of a sound and sounding good..

I think most creatives dont look back at there earlier stuff in high regard since it reminds them of all the flaws they had looking back. Deadmau5 usually being quite a outspoken individual it's not surprising to hear him critique his own music even the stuff as us the consumer think its some of his best we've come nowhere near the journey he has come through. And the fact that he found a part of the track he still likes, I think he might be a bit more fond of the track than what he shows us :)

I'm not that guy, but to me, it is the greatest track of all time. It's genuinely my favorite song, ever. I love that the song is so simple at first, but then the synth comes in and suddenly you're like...oh. Oh, this...this is beautiful. I saw a video once where a guy took an ableton project and a flstudio project and did really similar stuff and compared the two different sounds and waveforms. He would do stuff like install the same vst's on both and play the same note or chords and see what differences there were. He also would put compressors through the same settings and stuff. With the exception of a few small things (I think the compressors used different algorithms so they sounded ever so slightly different) They were basically the same. I think the right answer is that Ableton is designed in such a way that it encourages better music production. I've never used it but I've seen people use it. I think the layout is really smart and I think FL studio puts you in this "Lets make a bunch of loops and string them together into a song" and Ableton is more like "no, no, we're here to make MUSIC, I don't know how youre gonna structure this but let's really dial in the settings" And the result is organization, very easy navigation and the ability to have all your settings just extremely accessible. I don't really understand why, it just seems easier to get a good result. But I don't think it's because of some magic "It sounds better" I actually think it doesn't give their developers enough credit.
