In this new series, we'll be taking a look at a variety of films that had historically troubled productions or controversial problems in making it to the big screen. Some were massive hits despite their problems, while others died a slow box office death. Regardless of where they ended up, we have to ask the question: WTF happened to this movie? Join host Ian Michael Jentzsch as he deep dives into the long road to the big-screen success of DEADPOOL, starring Ryan Reynolds. The movie ended up a worldwide phenomenon, so why did it take to long to happen? Why was the rating so important? What kept Ryan Reynolds chasing the project for so long, even after a failed first attempt at a superhero role? Time to make the chimichangas and find out!

Yeah, it worked, right. I thought the first was much better than the second. The reason being is budget and drive. They spent their drive and ambition up on the first one and relied too heavily on CGI on the second.

Its a problem that cannot really be solved. sadly... unless more projects like deadpool pay off as big successes and repeating shit gets more and more unpopular to watch for the average person. But sadly most of the people i know like these kind of ever repeating nonsense movies... so I think nothing will really change

You have to consider, the studio executive has one job. Make money for the studio. If the movie flops, they lose their job. No one wants to be unemployed, so no one takes risks. In UK, you can get almost no strings attached grants to make movies/series/etc which are funded via tv licenses (basically tv tax). That is why you see creative and riskier productions come out from the Brits.

@@DaShonuff If Marvel Studios under Disney makes Deadpool 3 at all, it'll probably be R-rated. Any appearances of Deadpool in the greater MCU will, of course, be PG-13. There's no law saying a Disney-released move *must not* be R-rated. For instance: "Disney has released a number of R-rated films through various subsidiaries such as Miramax, Dimension Films, and Touchstone Pictures over the years including Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill, Trainspotting, From Dusk Till Dawn, Sin City, Scream, Bad Santa, Con Air, Pretty Woman, and Starship Troopers." All technically Disney movies, just not under the Disney title (which the MCU movies aren't either, they're Marvel Studios, you remember seeing any Disney logo? Me neither). They're in the business of making money, not kid movies (however kid movies also make money, so that's that). So buck up true believer.

Deadpool is Reynolds's pet project and people have reacted favourly to the films, besides Reynolds must of made back the money he spent on paying the script writers in the first movie to be on set, also, the first Deadpool movie was made on a budget that far less than the disasterous Wolverine Origins movie, so its a fine of example of less it more.

The idea that the studio almost passed on this film just reinforces that idea that large studio executives are incredibly disconnected from audiences and have no clue what they're doing. Marvel Studios did it right by making every movie with comic book fans in mind. I guess Fox still needs to be shown up by them time and time again before getting that through their heads.

But it wasn't funny, and didn't break the 4th wall. And it didn't really FEEL like a comic book movie, more like an action movie like The Matrix (I don't think that was a comic first...right?). Also, it was about vampires, so which is an easy one to lean on if you have a good movie (along with dinosaurs, robots, etc) BUT, after everything, we ended up with the PERFECT Deadpool. So sucks there was all that BS to get there, but it would have been a different movie if not for that.

He didn't just take a huge movie roll for the money or another super hero role for notoriety to save his career but he went for it because he knew the character, he knew what he could bring to the table and that he was prefect for the role and when budget fell anything short of providing what he felt the film needed to be done right he put his money where his mouth is and made the necessary changes. Dude put his heart n soul in the movie without question, and proved to fans what he knew he had to give. The epítome of an underdog 👏

To be fair... I did not hate Green Lantern and that was mainly due to Ryan Reynolds involvement I would not have even noticed that movie had anyone else been in the lead role. I had never been a fan of the comic and have never gotten over the fact that when I was a kid Green Lantern's weakness was the color yellow... dumbest superhero ever. But then I found out Van Wilder was playing the titular role and I had no choice I had to go see it.

Well, looks like "Joker" took the crown and became the first "R" Rated movie to make a Billion dollars. But this movie was indeed awesome and I'm happy that Ryan was able to keep pushing for it to be made.

I have to take my hat off & give kudos to Ryan Reynolds for his tenacity. Many other actors would've quit & moved on in frustration with the studio. What other actors would've paid out of pocket to keep the writers on set all the time to keep up the quality of the dialogue & story. 13 years in the making (smh). That's what I call commitment & a labor of love.

I never understand the urge for studios to water down R rated movies to PG-13. It seems to only irritate adult fans and teens will watch R movies anyways.
@malcolmmiles3603
@malcolmmiles3603 5 жыл бұрын
This is coming from a business standpoint studios feel that a PG-13 movie will likely put more butts in seats than a R rated movie especially when it comes to superhero movies. Most superhero movies will get a child's attention and if it's G, PG, or PG-13 parents are more likely to bring there kids. So it's more so they can appeal to a broader audience. Which they shouldn't do because you in turn destroy the essence of the character. Me being a comic book fan I understand which characters deserve what ratings but Deadpool, Wolverine, Punisher, or any assassin type character deserves a R rating that's why most of their comics usually have a parental advisory warning.

I feel like Green Lantern (2011) was intended to be DC/WB's Iron Man (2008). It's certainly the Marvel product it most closely resembles in terms of tone and style. Instead it seems to have ended up as their version of Hulk (2003); an ambitious, mildly interesting, high concept footnote with no noticeable subsequent influence.

Hopefully the execs over at Disney will remember the good old days when they owned Miramax where they used to make their R rated movies. This needs to stop behaving like a studio and start behaving like a corporation. They need to better compartmentalize their content.
