If I’m correct then from my memory Venom was bonded with Spider-Man and wanted to do good but took it a little to far for spider to handle so spider got rid of Venom and then Venom bonded to Eddy Brock who has a deep hatred for Peter/Spider-Man so Venom also took on that personality of wanting to end Spider-Man because it knew Spider-Man was Peter and it’s host ant the time wanted Peter dead so it complied and tried to grant that wish

There have been many retcons on why Venom was crazy/evil 1. The Deadpool explanation 2. In the Guardians of the Galaxy: Planet of the Symbiotes saga, it was revealed that most symbiotes are good, and the ones that leave the planet eventually turn crazy as a result of being away from the mother planet. In the arc, Venom is supposedly cured of his madness/evil intent. 3. In the recent 'The Amazing Spider-Man Annual', it tells the symbiotes' side of the story for why he hates spider-man, and it was because the latter rejected the former without giving a reason why. So when it comes to comics, there various retellings and retcons, which contradict each other.

Making sence of comic book universes is pointless; they were made by 20 year olds that would've worn crocs if they were a thing in the 60's just making characters on an "oh thatd be cool" basis.. the popular characters were molded over decades and the rest stay as minor characters. If the story retcons established lore, they just claim its in a different 'universe' Generally in the cartoons the xmen were for all intents and purposes in a different universe to the avengers, with only a few crossover specials. Venoms been standing on his own (or with the guardians in some cases) for a long time in the comics and symbiotes are pretty well defined as their own thing in universe. While a lot of Venom's defining traits are from Spider-man, the symbiotes natural abilities are far more than that. I think you could totally do a standalone Venom movie, jumping to the point where Venom is now. Venom doesn't need to have an angry hard on for Spider-man for him to be picky about his host, and create an interesting dynamic between the two. Do I think this movie is gonna be a good example of that? Probably not. I actually like Amazing Spider-man but the sequel took away any faith I had in Sony Pictures, which is something I can say of just about any series they make.

Also, Venom no longer sees Spider-Man as an ideal host, in recent years, it only likes Eddie Brock (especially Eddie as they see each other as their significant other) and Flash Thompson. Agreed,Basically they could’ve continued in a way after the explosions in the half built building in spider man three with only just a few references to that movie and I say that because before Disney got the character back those movies still are under Sony (I hope) and could’ve done a more Intimate or more emotional psychological aspect of the dichotomy between Eddie and venom with an R rating as well as featuring a pre-glimpse of carnage and a slightly more of an origins storyline in continuous development of the character from spider man 3.

In a Venom comic where Venom, who's bonded to Flash Thompson flies to it's home planet along with the guardians of the galaxy and gets cleansed it's also explained that the symbiotes aren't ever hostile off the bat but that by being bonded with with the wrong kinds of minds basically is their version of disease.
