That line always got me. Always got the sense that Miles appreciated his time working under Al, to the point where he probably would have bailed on the robbery scheme to stay and work his way up if he was on his own. That part where he struggles to say goodbye. I think Al had that way about him, making people feel like they’re around a guy who knows what he’s doing.

@nosorab35 жыл бұрын
No one was big on the ending because it didn't actually end! Canceled before its time like so many other quality high-end TV shows. That said, if it were made today it'd be on its 8th season and Al, having fallen befoul a time-traveler, would find himself in the 23rd century, selling cooze and booze in a saloon on the third moon of Lambda-Persei 12! Let's be thankful it ended on a relative high note.

@kentgrady92264 жыл бұрын
He was actually far crueler than depicted. Boom towns and mining camps all over the west all had their own "Swegens". He was savvy enough to realize that the real money was not in mining - it was in separating the money from the miners. The same thing happened in the Bakken field oil boom. I know lots of guys who worked as roughnecks, only to blow it all on overpriced housing, booze, drugs, and hookers shipped in from all over.

Al's is a much showier role (played brilliantly) but over the many times I have watched this series, I find I have gotten to engage in most of the major characters as well. I don't think Bullock was boring - he was a powder keg waiting to blow (which did a couple of times). Very complex character.

@@royman311 Allegedly, they weren't quite aware of how profitable DVD sales at the time could be so shows like Deadwood and Rome were prematurely cancelled, although in Rome's case it was an exceedingly expensive show to shoot and it didn't have the viewership of HBO's most popular shows.
