The only thing that could exclude this kid from the deaf community, is the deaf community ostracizing him because he can hear now.

The only thing i think about this is that they should still learn sign language in case the implant ever fails

I think deaf people should be able to hear if they want to, but if they don’t that’s fine too.

And the children can turn their implants off. They have a choice whether to hear or not. I think it's kind of heartbreaking for parents to refuse their child cochlear implants just because they think their child doesn't need to be fixed. By that standard, should parents not get their child glasses because the child doesn't need to be fixed?

@CarolineMosesComedy I found out about this anti-CI community a while ago. It still disgusts me. Blame the terrible parents who don't understand that the CI never was a cure, and wont help the child lesrn other form of communication, not a revolutionary device that makes many many many lives OBJECTIVELY better and much easier. I think it comes from a place of jealousy in the older generations of born-deaf folk. 'I suffered most of my life to learn asl, and to tell everyone I meet to face me when they talk, these kids get to hear and will have to put much less effort into their communication, AND they'll miss out on my CULTURE!" -Yeah, a culture of exccecive effort and a struggle to communicate, sure don't wanna miss out on that

I think CI is a tool. Do I think d/Deaf children need to learn ASL? YES!! But there is nothing wrong with having a CI, take it it easier to function in a hearing world.

Yep. Perfect example of crab mentality. The deaf people who can't get these implants are angry at those who can and are trying to pull them down, because misery loves company.
