Deaf for the Day, in support of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People

It's great that John is helping to raise attention. I don't want to take attention away from people who are deaf or John's experience, I hope I don't come across that way. I'm not deaf or blind but I'm hearing and vision impared and there are so many things that John describes about his experience, that I've always experienced. It was easier when I was a kid, but I have to admit that I'm becoming more emotionally sensitive to situations that apparently make me look stupid, even insensitive to others and make me feel helpless and isolated. My sons get it, children are usually very considerate, adults; not so much.

It Deaf People not people Deaf. N thank-u for understanding more now about the Deaf community. I'm Deaf/Hard of Hearing..n yup how John felt is how I feel most times..n make ppl face me..or talk to me on my left ear cuze right ear I'm deaf..

I became a fan the first time I saw you on Doctor Who. I became a bigger fan when I saw you on Torchwood. This cinches it I am a bigger fan of yours for raising awareness for the deaf community. You are a gorgeous man on the outside and even more so on the inside.

Jeff - totally agree with you. I dated someone that was totally deaf for a number of years - - - it was a very different culture to be exposed to.

I've been searching for "apps for the deaf" & I came across you being deaf for a day. Oh how cried! It's all I have asked my family to do for me, but they don't have the time!?! Or the want!?! :( I am 3+ yes not hearing now, after my best friend & my twin sister died 2 yrs ago. With all other friends gone now, this mostly because I'm disabled 12+ yrs. With Fibromyalgia. This finished the rest of my contact list. I have been doing all the work when trying to get family to already look at me, want to have me more in there life! But now I realize the depression that has set in is getting out of hand... I want to get involved with the hearing community, with hopes of finding a deaf friend:) hopes off during this God awful loneliness... I live in Ont. Canada, & I want/need a hearing DOG. Can you help me find the way to do this pleeease? And huge Kudos for doing something that feels too me "simple" but date too ask anyone to give up one day off there hearing life? I can't do it... and is why you doing this, so moved me. The world needs more people like you:) I hope to hear from you, but if not? IM SINGLE SIDED DEAF AND HAVE TINNITUS IN MY GOOD EAR IT IS TERRIBLE IF PEOPLE DONT KNOW BECAUSE THEY THINK IM BEING RUDE LIKE IF PEOPEL ARE ON YM BAD SIDE IF MY EAR THEN I DONT KNOW THEY SAID EXCUSE ME AND THEY JSUT PUSH PAST WHEN IN FACT THEY SHOULD TAP AND SAY SORRY BUT I NEED TO PASS NOT JUST PUSH IF YOU DIDNT HEAR THEM AND THEN GIVE U A VERY BAD LOOK WHEN ITS NOT LIKE I CHOSE TO IGNOR THEM

Tis is mostly fantastic, except for one thing. The Closed Captioning was apparently done by a computer instead of a person, because parts of it are nonsensical jibberish. Too bad that Deaf People weren't accommodated better on this wonderful project.

my thoughts exactly! I'm now trying to find a way to correct the transcrips on youtube vids... so complicated! Loved this though. I'm a little hearing impaired, I can't distinguish sounds very well when there are several sounds at once, eg tap running while someone is talking, i cant figure out what they're saying. So I'm glad to see this!

I'm deaf I don't need help crossing street lol, I no that it was a first for him. I tend be withdrawn around hearing people can't get as involved they make hard, but around deaf people U have coversashons everyone excepts U everyone face u when talk or sign, hearing community complete diffrent have conversashon with out even facing one another, very frustrating for me when I ask repeat they get annoyed have say it again it not nice and the things that hearing people say to deaf people are ridiculous they just havnt got clue cos there is never anything about deafness on TV this is one of tv and it will get forgotten abot

Whats the point in having a dog tell you when the phone is ringing? Whats a deaf person going to do with a phone?

To answer ur questions some people are hard of hearing n use hearing aids to help them out. If they do have phones the phone is connected to a screen n it has like close captions. Others like a video phone they have a ringing n is connected to the t.v. n have a flash n the ringing but they don't see the flash then the dog will let them know.same with the door bell that is also connect to a lamp that flashes so it the same. Their are many things that the hearing world does not know..until like John shows then is how the hearing people know more..I my self is Deaf on right n hard of hearing on left n I have a video phone to communicate with other deaf friends.. I do talk on phone but I'm not likeing it much cuze my hearing is getting worst..but I have a hearing aid to help me out a bit .. n I go on my daily life but when ppl talk with me I have to let them know I'm deaf on right and have to speak slow n talk to me on left and face me so I can kind of lip read :) hope this helped u :)
