This was a message that God ordained for me to hear and I am weeping as I type this. I've never faced a bigger trial than the one I face now and I have cried everyday for 6 weeks straight, and I am not usually a crier, as we've been going through one of the worst scenarios that I could've ever imagined. I've never experienced such sorrow before and am sometimes giving in to discouragement as I don't see my dozens of prayers per day being answered. Thank you so much for this message from the Word.

As someone who struggles with anxiety (more than likely an undiagnosed disorder) and someone who listens to himself too often, I benefited greatly from this teaching. By God's grace, I am His.

We are not our anxiety or our disorders we are children of God and we have potential that we can't imagine. If you're going through hell don't hold your breathe keep breathing and keep going don't stop in hell.

Listen to Doug’s “The Sinfulness of Worry”. I keep that one on a loop. Stay close. God is good. P. S. Mine is diagnosed.

Doug, I can’t thank you enough for what you do. It’s about impossible to find this kind of teachings around our area. You uploading these sermons, your short rants of wisdom on your blog/mablog page and everything else has been inspiring and life changing to me. Thank you, sincerely.

Dr. Martin Lloyd Jones~~"Have you realized that most of your unhappiness in life is due to the fact that you are listening to yourself instead of talking to yourself? Take those thoughts that come to you the moment you wake up in the morning. You have not originated them but they are talking to you, they bring back the problems of yesterday, etc. Somebody is talking. Who is talking to you? Your self is talking to you. Now this man’s treatment [in Psalm 42] was this: instead of allowing this self to talk to him, he starts talking to himself. “Why art thou cast down, O my soul?” he asks. His soul had been depressing him, crushing him. So he stands up and says, 'Self, listen for moment, I will speak to you.'." These words changed my life tremendously years ago when my doctor wrote about Dr. Martin Lloyd Jones in a blog post.

Key takeaway: "...don't 'listen' to yourself, 'preach' to yourself..." Maranatha!

I try to never dismiss it as silly when a child gets frustrated/cries when something that we perceive as small goes wrong for them. That's how we must appear to God!

I find the "gift of encouragement" is rare in public preaching. Why is that? This talk encourages me. Thanks

This is really helpful to me, I’m struggling with adequacy and this discouragement I’m feeling is not from God. Literally speaking the word to yourself is something I never really did a lot.

When Doug is saying that the Father spoke peace, I get it. When he says that the Son purchased it, I get it. When he says the Holy Spirit applies it presently, I don't understand what he means. 13:10

@Canon Press - I enjoy the communion meditations!... Is there a place to access them? Especially this one as I grew up in the self examination cell of piety and am learning to change my perspective on this precious sacrament.

This may sound a bit odd, but the heaviest thing on my soul atm is the overprescribing of statins. I guess I will pray about it again. It has yet to be shown that LDL is a heart attack risk factor, yet they are being prescribed en masse. In addition, they have slow-developing side effects (eg dementia) so that people never know the problem. I lost two friends from this. And I have no explanation for it. Im a mathematician and looked at the numbers myself. And several top docs (harvard medical, mit, stanford, another from mit, hopkins, Cleveland clinic - every place but mayo) are saying same about statins and dont like them.
