Your insurance getting cut off even though you're paying for it and your visa still being valid and you still obviously planning on living in Korea after your trip is a really weird rule. Hopefully they change this some day cause it makes no sense. But one thing I really love about Korea is how fast everything is though. Seems like that passport didn't even take 2 days to be done, how amazing! Kyuho's new pics look great.

Yeah, I just don’t understand if I’m paying for it while I’m away (which we both were), why does it matter which country I’m in? I’d be more than willing to pay a bit extra in advance. If I’m away for longer than what I paid for in advance, THEN I’d understand being cut off 😩 The passport process was super fast! Likely partly since it’s due to the pandemic, and barely any people are traveling these days 💦 There was only one other person in the whole office besides us!

So how much is the premium ? Does this insurance is available for short-term staying foreigners, say upto 6mth?

Cause that rate and set up is for citizens. Cause in Korea the idea anyone would be away from work a month is unusual. It just doesn’t effect enough people yet for them to change it.

The way I noticed Beemo sleeping on the couch at 01:57. My cats also uses the cushion or our feet to rest their heads whether it be on the sofa or the floor. I find it a unique trait in cats to find a head pillow, it’s adorable.

Yay for being out of quarantine!! I’m sure that you guys were about to go crazy after not getting out after so long. The food looks yummy, as always. All of the cats look like they’ve gotten chubbier since you were away. 😂 I guess others left food out for them or came by to feed them. Well that, combined with not getting as much activity due to the cold. It seems interesting being a foreigner in Korea. That techno mart did look desolate. It’s nice that you guys can navigate these processes while recording so that others can benefit from your experience.

As a Pole - it makes me extremely happy that Kyuho enjoys The Witcher 3 so much. And as a gamer - I LOL when he said 'just let me finish this' - my wife gave me a stink look as I say it all the time :) As a Seinfeld fan since early '90s - also makes me extremely happy that both of you watch it and enjoy it :) My wife and I also went home this year for the first time since early 2020, so we knew full well what you felt before, during, and after returning, we just were a bit luckier - Scotland only kept us quarantined for 2 days (and obviously it's much closer home, just 3h flight), but still - it's a pain, glad that you're both free now. Thanks for updating us, till next time :)

What a great deal with Ana Luisa! I'll have to check it out for sure. That health insurance issue is sooo confusing. I can't imagine all of the people it impacts too geez. Most foreigners that leave are for sure going to be gone for more than 30 days especially if they're going home. Kyuho looking good for his pictures!

It’s a fab deal ✨ And yeah, seriously 😩 Most foreign residents I know in Korea visit their families for over 30 days, because it’s too expensive to make multiple shorter trips. And with international couples with kids, the foreign partner often takes their kid to their home countries to spend summer vacation with their families. When they return, the foreign partner’s health insurance is cut off and all messed up 😩

amongst my circle of friends there're several married international couples, most of them choose to live/stay in my country only because career wise there is more business opportunities and language wise maybe it is less of an issue compare to going back to their spouses' home countries. I never really hear much of their predicaments whenever we gather as friends, maybe it's all too personal to share. thanks to your stories I am seeing the interesting 'behind the scene' situations most people do not really know of. perhaps see it with a little sense of humour, at least yr life is much more exciting than many :) btw happy Korean new year!

Thank so much for the kind words 🥰 There definitely still are a lot more hoops to jump through living in Korea if you have a non-Korean spouse, but over all things mostly get done quickly, which is a plus.

Being a Canadian citizen living in USA, I have faced a similar situation regarding Healthcare system. I am just trying to understand that there must be some formerly-abused loopholes that the government trying to protect against. They really should reimburse your money though... At least you are not paying US Health insurance. I am paying close to 20 Grand! a year for my family & they still charge 500 bucks for a visit at an emergency room!

Hi guys! Yayyyyy! Welcome to freedom! You’re both so amazing, in that you followed ALL of the quarantine rules, right down to the last minute! I just love spending the week with you both! I’m so glad that the stray kitties remembered you and your kindness. Did Grey ever end up coming out? Sarah, the whole insurance situation for foreigners is so scary. Thank God you didn’t require any medical attention, during your quarantine! I’m just so happy that all is well on that front. I’m super impressed at how your whole passport renewal process is. It’s so quick and the photo session is like sitting for a professional photograph session. Out here, they don’t care what you look like. Kyuho, your pictures came out great! My current drivers license picture is horrible! I lost 25 lbs, so it no longer looks like me. I was rear ended in my SUV last week. When I went to exchange information. The guy looked at my license, then looked at me. I was like “yes, that WAS me.” 😂😂😂 Take care! Thank you for sharing your week with us! Especially, the new Ana Luisa pieces. I saw one that has my mom’s maiden name, so if that’s not a sign to buy, I don’t know what else is. 🥰

The toughest part was not being able to throw out any trash or food waste, lol 😫 Grey is still wary of us 🥲 but all the other cats are totally fine. Luckily health care in Korea isn’t as crazy expensive as the U.S-even without health insurance. But it still sucks that a Korean resident has it cut off after 30 days outside of the country :( And yeah, Korea’s ID photos are SO much better than Canada-I look awful in my Canada IDs, lol. Hope you’re ok after that collision btw 😮

@@2hearts1seoul …..Sarah, oh gosh! That’s right! The trash! This is when a trash chute could come in handy for sure. I’m so sorry about Grey. He will remember your kindness and will build up that trust again. ♥️ Yes, yes! The US is crazy expensive. I’m so glad that Korea is affordable. Thank you for asking……By the Grace of God, I had no issues with my neck or back-just a tiny bit of pain where the seatbelt locked in place when I was hit, AND I was hit hard. The young man that hit me was 23, fresh out of college, working hard, had insurance, AND had our sons’ name. The mama bear in me, all of the sudden became protective of this young man. My husband came out to the accident to inspect the bumper (2021 Lexus SUV with lots of sensors) , and gave the young man a chance to go through insurance or not. IF we were to go through insurance, it would cause his insurance to go way up, as he’s young, and just recently got a point on his insurance for a ticket he received for an illegal turn. He was thankful and said he could afford to pay $2,500 cash. IF agreed that if the 3 estimates went above that, we would have no choice, but to go through insurance. Again, by the Grace of God, the damage underneath the bumper wasn’t extensive, so the cost came out to be an additional $178.50 above his budget. He was so appreciative and so thankful that we protected him. The only downside…… a new bumper is on back order and I’m without a car until Valentine’s Day. I guess I’m on my own quarantine of sorts. 🥰

In Canada the health system is not national it is provincial, so each province has similr but their own rules. All provinces however have a "residency" requirement: the length of time you must be physically present in the province in order to qualify for health coverage. Nova Scotia for instance is 5 months: in order for me to continue to be eligible for health coverage I must each year be physically present in Nova Scotia for 183 days.

Those mandu's looked really good! I think kimchi mandu is definitely one of my top favorite ones! Did not think they Photoshoped passport photos over there lol. Mine is literally just a snap with a white background, in and out in 2 mins haha. Politics, gov't, man, so much red tape for everything. Seems like a lot of times these things just don't make sense, but they don't bother to change it either. Paying in advance is so easy and makes sense. Everyone gets what they want, yet why hasn't a simple change like that been made? A lot of jumping through hoops for you guys every time you visit Canada :(

Bureaucracy is not designed to make your life easier or based on common sense. I think that's pretty true anywhere in the world. However national health insurance would be nice here in the US but I seriously doubt that it will ever happen in my lifetime. It costs me almost $300/month for a middle of the road coverage just for myself.

I remember having to get passport/visa pics done in Korea for other countries, and I had to specifically tell the photographer to NOT do any photoshop because the other countries specifically asked us not to, hahhahahahahaha, we forgot once and didn't notice till after we left that they had photoshopped them, we looked much lighter and thinner than we really did, hahaha, had to go back and ask for un-photoshopped ones, lol

Thanks for the heads up about the insurance rule! That's good to know for possible future reference. Appreciate it! Oh also do you happen to know if people living outside of Seoul can go to the local city office to reply or does everyone in the country have to go to one of those locations in Seoul. No worries at all if you don't have that info. Just curious. Thanks!

That's because most Americans don't have insurance or don't have adequate "insurance". I have some of the best insurance in America and still pay an arm and a leg to get treatment. Healthcare here in the US is a complete joke.

If I ever get married in Japan, I wonder what kind of hurdles there might be. I don't know if there is such a rule for health insurance here (or maybe I'm just blissfully unaware)? One issue I'm dealing with solo is my US Driver's license is expiring, but since my parents are military and don't have permanent housing in Hawaii, I have to way to show proof of residence to renew my license. I can't get a new license in the state they currently live in because I haven't lived there. So once it expires, Ill probably have to take out an International Driver's Permit every time I go back to the US in order to drive. Luckily I got to change my Hawaii license to a Japanese one before my Hawaii one ran out.

medial benefit for couple never heard of in that way, ok ?/? umm , that's interesting, by the way am like you guys married to Italia man but living in USA, which is a different medical insurance benefit system (do have choose married couple to either join medical insurance benefit or separate medical insurance benefit but if one doesn't have then can join together to get medical insurance benefit with no exception but then again if both are not citizens of USA that maybe different situation?? I don't know) than Korea, although USA medical system is very expensive

So, Sarah, if you get dropped from your South Korean Health Insurance while you are in Canada, what do you do if you become sick and have to see either a doctor or go to the hospital? Would you be covered under Canada’s health system since you are still a Canadian citizen?
@2hearts1seoul
@2hearts1seoul 2 жыл бұрын
Nope, because I am no longer a Canadian resident. We buy travel health insurance when we visit Canada. I could have still gone to the hospital in Korea with no insurance, it would’ve just been way more expensive-though not nearly as expensive as the U.S.
