Wow, you have a busy day doing what you do. In your favour is your relative youth, your energy, your positivity and your comms skills which all come through in abundance to me. Attributes that many young people lack these days. I'd like to know what you are doing to find employment. Is it online job boards or using recruitment agencies or referrals? I've found the recruitment industry toxic - there is no empathy with recruiters. They are only interested in quotas - not individual jobseekers. And job boards are just clickbait sites. The real jobs are to be found in the hidden jobs market - but good luck getting onto that (he says with eyes rolling).

It's slowly creeping toward my mid-30s! My knee makes a new clicky noise haha! thanks for this comment - one of the reasons I'm doing KZbin is to improve my confidence speaking so the fact you said that means a lot. I apply to job boards, I physically go to agencies and they tell me to apply online (which is crazy) but using recruitment and referrals is the only way. 90% of my interviews this year were through agencies/referrals you are right, it is incredibly toxic and built on narcissism. some jobs aren't even real, companies post jobs to inflate their companies' value and job boards contain scams/courses. I can think of a few videos covering this that I plan to make! is this the experience you had with your career/getting a job?

@@GammageBenjamin I was made redundant 3 years ago from an IT job after many years. I'm in my late 50s. I've given up all hope now of being employed in my line of work. I don't want to tell too much about myself online. I'm financially secure and own my own home outright and have no family. I do still scour the job ads coming into my inbox but case in point I applied for a great job over a week ago directly with the recruitment consultant. I was a fantastic match. He never acknowledged my initial email or my CV. I rang the company three times to speak with him but reception kept saying he was unavailable and busy with clients. Sent my CV again in the hope but nothing. This is a recurring theme with agencies and job boards - uncaring, cynical and non empathetic 99% of the time. Employers these days want so much different tech stack - they are generally not realistic. I only ever have about 40 - 50% of what they want in their descriptions and so I rarely apply now. PS I do not want to be stacking shelves in a supermarket but it may well come next year sometime. Your youth is what is really in your favour.

That sounds rough. yeah I totally get it you need to be protect your identity Financial security and actually owning a house (none of this mortgage bs) is really impressive though. I may be naive here but late 50s you can still achieve so much! Harland Sanders comes to mind! (kfc) You are right though, agencies dont care about people. Ive been thinking of creating a community of people that help each other get jobs, maybe specialising in tech/marketing for this exact reason. donation based to keep it running and people to maintain. Recruiters don't know what these skills are or mean - plus they have so many candidates to go through. I dont want to stack shelves either really. I totally get given your experience you DEFINITELY don't deserve to do that either. I'm just thinking is there anything you can do to leverage so many years of experience in a similiar career path? Genuinely would love to pick your brain and learn from your experiences. If I want to then others will too. You ever thought about teaching? Keep in touch mate. Il reach out if i get this community going but would love to chat

@@GammageBenjamin Thx for the reply. You have a lot of ideas about what you wanna do. I think that's the secret... you haven't given up hope - you started a YT channel and you're not sitting around doing nothing. That is half the battle and shows you mean business. Most entrepreneurs started from nothing selling from the back of a van, seeing a niche market and just persevering- Adidas, Amstrad, Hewlett Packard, JD (?) Sports, even McDonalds! A seed of an idea and enthusiasm is all that is needed. There's a programme from the States (on KZbin) that parachutes a millionaire business person into a small, back country town with zero money and a phone and they have to make a million dollar business within six months without using their existing friends or connections. That is a great watch if you have the time. I forget the name of the programme. Something like 'Secret Millionaire'. I'd talk but I'm not going to give my email or phone num for obvs reasons.

Il check that video out! probably could learn some things, shame i don't have those connections - yet ;) Yeah for sure! I was looking into mediums / creating a discord channel or wait for youtube communities to be a thing. definitely dont risk your personal details! Will ping you when one of which is setup. another to do on my list. Do you use discord? yeah spot on again - Its just figuring it out. like, I'm full of ideas but need to focus on just one and see how it goes I guess. Its definitely around helping people. My journeys been shit with work, I want to help people avoid that. its interesting because one job i nearly went for was a self employment advisor too.

I follow Joshua Fluke! I agree with most things he says and his delivery is so on point. il add a british twist to my videos; raw cynical wit :P Sorry to hear that mate, its a shit situation to be in really. a constant battle with the mental, hope you are keeping on top of it all? sometimes i think a job just making coffee or mindlessly stacking shelves whilst I focus on what i WANT to do and make money from it just sounds so good. A harder path though... going to give it a try. i will eventually build a community that helps each other get jobs, if i pickup an audience on here. Donation based maybe...

Why limit to just fast food chains? I have applied to many different things. I may be a bin man for the foreseeable which means no cardio at the gym and the hours allow me to focus on my KZbin / Writing etc (win win!) Certainly not afraid to work in anything - Although if I'm honest i would struggle in a chicken factory. I lasted a few days watching chickens get slaughtered years back.

Employers hire the tool, not the person. The employee is just the person who knows how to use the tool for the employer. On your CV focus on your knowledge of the tools you have experience in. Don't try to sell yourself, sell the tool.
@GammageBenjamin
@GammageBenjamin Ай бұрын
I think the problem is most people lie about the tool. Employers also hire the person for many reasons - such as if said person is not a threat to their own job. I think thats why theres so much rampant narcissim in corporate. if what you said is true, I know many extremely powerful tools who dont get hired. maybe, to your point, they dont sell the tool. you have a good point, im not sure if i agree with the first sentence.

@@GammageBenjaminMen do not fit into the office environment unless the role is highly specialised and they literally beg you because no one else has your skills. If you're applying for the average office role, then the hot blonde who applied for the same job beats you 9/10 times. And I'm saying that 1. As a liberal and 2. Not blaming women. Because it's male executives who are hiring those women over you and me. So women are not to blame. It's just the name of the game in corporate, men are not welcome unless nepotism.

@@GammageBenjaminPlumbing. I have the same natural disposition as you: Introvert naturally (working in an extremely outgoing role totally sober changed that for me, so it can be changed) and creative/arts/english/story telling. My advice to myself is this: Creativity never pays the bills, until it does. Most artists are always broke. So get a stable career first (for me plumbing), and work on your art on the side. Because trust me, most artists have always historically failed. Whether it's the painting kind of artists or the English literature story book types. Most = always broke.

@@hanzo7616 Im thinking this youtube is my art, will make videos on whatever becomes popular that i enjoy making. To your point, I was actually looking at recruitment consulting. something that will train me to not be so introverted. I think this introversion is the main reason I failed in corporate. must of been tough getting out of your introverted ways, so congratulations on that.
@hanzo7616
@hanzo7616 Ай бұрын
@@GammageBenjaminIf you want a KZbin career, you need to follow a successful channel's footsteps - mimic their production, topics, enthusiasm etc or mix and match from like 3 different channels. Because it's so oversaturated, so unless you do what other popular channels are already doing to get views, it's going to be very hard to come up with a unique trend. Corporate LOVE introverts. If you interview like a competent salesman, you will never get the job, unless it is sales you are applying for lol. Because that kind of charisma HURTS THE COMPANY'S EGO. It really does. That's why corporate employees are often dorky types, women (who higher ups can harass), or Indians who are insanely smart or insanely poor and will work for dirt cheap. But yeah, become more extroverted for the sake of your KZbin channel. You have the great British accent (unlike me who is an essex goober) so I think you can succeed.
@GammageBenjamin
@GammageBenjamin Ай бұрын
@@hanzo7616 THIS!!! If i can "teach" myself extroversion with my videos this will help me in many ways, one of the main reasons I started KZbin was to get a voice, if that make sense? to me that's more valuable then money. In my experience, you get milked and run over if you are introverted with corporate (hmm... I'm proving your point). that's why I'm taking this risky path with KZbin. and Ive been looking at marketing/recruitment type jobs to help my journey to extroversion in the meantime. or working at maccies I will experiment with many type of videos, going to try reaction to trending topics to see if that works too. wish me luck! Ah I'm from suffolk - i try and pronounce the 'T's I think so many things are oversaturated though. its just tough out there whatever you decide Plumbing is smart, you are going to earn so much money. If you are from essex i could recommend you to friends and family actually if you near colchester area, got a company name etc?

DUde wait did you lost your job again or quit your job? you're not clear in your video... do you want to get out of debt or live unemploy again?
@GammageBenjamin
@GammageBenjamin 2 ай бұрын
Yeah i am somewhat contradicting my previous videos. In a perfect world, the previous videos will get you out of debt and a high paid job. What i want is a job that is less stress and/or allows me to do what i want. Because i live with very small bills and was paid really well in my last job, I paid off 90% of my debts and have the savings to live a few months figuring out my next move. That next move will be something self employed rather then code related - what i will enjoy. I quit my last job, and my FTC ran out in the one before that. ive been uemployed since my "lost my job again" video (it has been a month) this is like a followup video of what ive done since then. Hope that makes sense! sorry for long comment

@@GammageBenjamin I understand, but man I got a job that pay me decent 4k net every month and I have 80k saving and I still don't feel safe. Like my goal is to get a house pay off and make my home a rental + an extra house then live in Thailand debt free. idk man being unemployed and not making money just set me back on my goals. I'm 32 and all my friend already have houses.

@@tommypham1101 Well the average homeowner is 32 (UK), that's really good! especially if they have paid off the mortgage. They are good investments, especially when you need somewhere to live permanently! I don't think anyone chooses to be unemployed, certainly not the case for me - I did resign but if there was another path so i could stay without causing stress to my colleagues/me i would have, whilst still building my goals. It depends on the goals, right? If its purely money then you are better off earning more money a month - upskilling. that costs initial monthly earnings with your time. Life isn't linear. its a rising oscillating pattern, failure is met with growth. I aim to fail and grow on my own terms. I do believe one can make more money without working for somebody - but its a lot harder. No such thing as safety either way...
