I think this might be the beginning of another series like Mr. Koontz's Nameless series. Each story is followed by a continuation of different situations fighting the parasite and its poisoned followers. His Nameless character lasted for 2 series, approx 9 episodes each until the series ended for good. They are short stories and if you haven't seen them, its a enjoyable story line 😊

Maybe it’s a new writer who is allowed by Koontz to write part of the book. I’ve always wondered if this was a thing authors do. Otherwise Koontz would be writing one book a day.
