The point motors were always a faded grey, really quite light, with slightly darker oil and grease stains on. Same as the cable channel. The Buddleia and rusty rails do look like I remember, heading into Eglinton Street tunnels. The 92 doesn't sound as I remember at all, Deltic was such an amazing model.

Another great video. Looking great. Just of note, a shunt signal into a siding, or as a calling on signal into an occupied road, will be with a red signal, not a proceed aspect of yellow or green. This is because it’s a caution signal requiring the driver to check the route is set and clear as he goes, being prepared to stop short of something that may be in front of them
@DeanPark Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info! The way it’s wired I might not be able to manage that…but I’ll look into it. Thanks :-)
@dhillebrandt85 Жыл бұрын
Just to add to that, you could also add a timer delay relay to the PLS. They don't pull off instantly with the road being set. You could use the delay relay to add a few seconds between the point changing and the PLS coming off. Would look so much more realistic.

It’s so much better using a Matt cote (or indeed gloss or satin cote) varnish. I’ve seen too many models ruined by poorly fitted plates. This method gives you time to adjust and also a chance to wipe off any spills or oozes. And it really does stick then firmly when dry.
@daviemaclean61 Жыл бұрын

A little technical note. The main signal would stay red when the shunt signal comes off. The Great Wall looks amazing. I use PVA glue for my etch plates, any excess is easily removed without damaging the paintwork.

Hi. I might be limited by the way the signal is wired. I will look into it. So the PLS goes off and the signal stays red?

Dave, Thank you for letting us(Me) watch the continued progress of Dean Park. You can tell by everything you do on the layout, It's a true labour of love. I'd love to see the outtakes, where the frustrations show the true Scotsman.😂😂 I'm biased as a 47 man myself, so 47363 gets my vote. However the Deltics and the 92 do look amazing. I've yet to hear a bad word about the 92s. The one you have is, like you said, spot on livery wise. Just as a Rail Enthusiast not a modeller, it's the first thing I look at with the models. Accurascale seem to be leading the way model wise on everything at the minute. Hornby need to take a look at themselves. Light bleed, I wouldve thought would be a standard in Quality Control testing, nevermind on a final decision and releasing it to retail. Not getting liveries right too. There must be plenty old BR paperwork kicking round to get the right shades.

I really like the way that the layout is developing and the scenic modelling is so realistic. I'm always inspired watching your videos! My modelling interest is SW Scotland in 2 eras, circa 1960 and late 1970s, so I have collections of BR blue diesels and also BR steam locos which would have operated on the ex-GSWR lines in these 2 periods. I've not bought many locos this year but one purchase stands out, and that's the Mckintosh Caledonian 812 0-6-0 in early crest BR black. I really like the smaller diesels and have numerous blue class 20s, 25s, 26s and 27s but I've resisted the temptation to add to their number this year! Keep up the good work, Dave, and have a great Hogmanay and Ne'erday! Cheers, Dave

Very enjoyable layout update and review of the year! Good tip with the buddleia as well! One tip in return … when a shunt signal/position light is used to ‘call-on’ into a siding, the main signal aspect is usually held at Red. With the Heathcote boards, using the ‘RR’ input and a toggle switch can hold the main signal aspect to red. Great work with the Great Wall and all the details, good inspiration for adding more details to my layout as well! 2022 has certainly been an expensive year with plenty of new models … and I guess we have a few more ahead for 2023! Have an enjoyable Hogmanay! 🎉👍 Mark
@DeanPark Жыл бұрын
Hi Mark. Yeah I’ve had similar feedback from a couple of folks on the signal. I have the RR wired up to all my signals to hold them at red. But I’m not sure if this will shut off the call on signal. I’ll have a potter around and see. Thanks. Have a good new year. Dave
@DeanPark Жыл бұрын
Hi mark. I am unable to get the call on signal to light when the signal aspect is red. I am using a heathcote route indicator switch for this signal, with the call on signal wired through that, so it’s operating like a route indicator feature at the moment. How would you wire this up via the RR? I already use it for turning the signal to red (from a toggle switch on my control panel). However I am unable to work out how to keep the ‘call on’ shunt signal to stay on when the main three aspect signal is red. Can you tell me how you would wire this up? Cheers. Dave
@ModelRailway Жыл бұрын
@@DeanPark Hi Dave, happy new year! Regarding the Heathcote Route Indicator module, that makes sense … as the module is designed to correctly simulate a junction with main aspect signals with a route indicator (feather) of white lights. The route indicator is only allowed to be lit when a proceed aspect is showing, therefore when the main aspect is Red the route indicator is not lit. Regarding the position light, one option could be to use a Gaugemaster GM500 relay fitted to the turnout to control the RR function. So when the turnout is set towards the siding, the RR input to the turnout switch is connected, then is connected to the Heathcote module RR function, and holds the main aspect signal to Red. The other channel from the relay can then be connected to the position light to light up. A separate 2-aspect Heathcote module (such as IRDASC-1) could be fitted to the position light to allow it to automatically switch off once a train has passed the signal and junction (with the sensor fitted on the siding just passed the junction). Hope this makes sense and helps? If not, I could draw a little diagram and send to you on Facebook! Cheers, Mark 👍

I probably use KZbin more than most of your subscribers (haven't owned a TV for 8 years at this point) and I have to say again, WITH GREAT EMPHASIS, that your uploads are very high amongst those I most look forward to. As your skill in improving the layout improves, so too does your skill in all aspects of video production. The Great Wall part of the scene is looking absolutely fantastic and a credit to, imo, the best part of your layout, the depot above it. I'm sure you're just chuffed with that full part of your set-up!! Rightfully so. Hard to argue with your call of top 3 models... that 55002 Deltic in green/yellow gets my heart's vote (despite me being a Rangers fan haha) but yes, there was only one choice for No.1 and it was def the Class 92. Great tip on adding name plates I always fear getting glue on the paint which puts me off adding the etched plates. The colour of buddleia depends on the soil they grow in so you would be unlikely to see different coloured ones next to each other in the wild, good you stuck to modelling what you have seen in real in Scotland. The Hornby APT I so looked forward to has been such a disappointment and seeing reviews of other recent releases has put me off buying anything else of theirs apart from the 9f Evening Star I had on order from way back. That runs well but was bought mainly for my collection. I will not buy a 92 because it is out of my time period but it sure looks and sounds the best release of the year, after the good Deltic reviews I am tempted to get a 37. I hope 2023 brings you and the family good times and look forward to your updates in the year ahead. I should be going to Glasgow show again so may see you there again

Your top 10 models of the year really tells a lot about the quality/standard of models being produced by the major brands. Hornby being bottom with many quality issues and high prices who really need to up their game. Bachmann doing well with so great models, but prices are high for some and Accurascale who really produce fantastic models at very good prices. Put a tiny dot of glue (using a needle or a pin) in one of the holes. Carefully attach the step and leave on its side to allow the glue to dry. Superglue is instant, like roket rapid, but if you’re worried about getting it on side of coach etc, use a water based options roket card glue or glue and glaze. These are easily wipeable with a damp cotton bud if any excess oozes. This glue will obviously take longer to dry. But you only need a tiny drop.

Interesting observations on the Hornby quality. When I worked at a local wildlife park one of our branded soft toy suppliers made it clear that they had their own manufacturing facility in China which differentiated them from most of the competition. In my role as QC inspector at an electronics facility I encountered many issues when sub component manufacture especially reguards electroplating and powder coat finishes were switched to alternative cheaper suppliers. I get the impression that Hornby are forever chasing the bottom line, manufacturing capacity and the inveitable consequential QC issues. Yes there are livery variations on prototypes due to weathering, age and even different workshops and paint batches, yet on a model it does stick out like a sore thumb. I agree it would be better to manufacture all models in a particular livery at the same plant.
@philnewstead5388 Жыл бұрын
I have enjoyed watching your layout develop over the last couple of years, yourself and Richard at Everard Junction really attain a level of detail and quality of finish that many of us can only aspire to. Accurascale seem to be proving with each new model that you can produce a first class model for sensible money whereas Hornby seem to align their pricing structure with Bachmann and Heljan whilst producing an inferior model. The light bleed on the Azuma and livery issues on the 91s and the flaws on the APT are simply unacceptable given the price you have paid for those models. I also have a friend who bought a Hornby HST this Christmas that only shows a white ligh on one power car which doesn't extinguish when changing direction, I dont like to bash Hornby as I have a number of their products that I'm very happy with but they really need to up their game and not release models that have basic errors in livery and light bleed. Hope you had a good Xmas and have a happy and prosperous new year and I look forward to seeing other areas of your layout develop.
@DeanPark Жыл бұрын
Cheers Phil. I try my best to get what I do to the highest quality possible. Both Richard and I have it lit own strengths and I too enjoy watching his channel. I bought the Deltic but I felt the class 47s from Bachmann are overpriced. I have bought some of their steam engines however. I was impressed by the 92s but I don't want one personally. I am looking forward to some steam locos due out over the next 12 months and the Accurascale class 37s. There are a couple of older diesels I am on the look-out for and some more rolling stock Ienjoy seeing your layout Dave.

A nice roundup and layout update. In terms of the APT being underpowered, they were that unreliable that you might as well drag them with a loco anyway 😂

Great update here Dave, some very good work done on the layout, a good choice of locomotives and rolling stock in your top 10 models of the year, some of them I would like to get hold of myself like the class 91 and the new bachmann class 37 and maybe the 47, good choice for your number one, I have 92022 Charles Dickens myself, very happy with the model but one thing I’m not pleased with is that mine has had some of the Railfreight distribution lettering rub off soo have had to buy some transfers to repair that. In terms of locomotives some top ones for me this year would be my Rapido APT-e, the accurascale deltic and class 92, a heljan DP2, the hornby rebuilt W1 Hush Hush, the dapol class 59 and a second hand A4 mallard which is being used for a project, my number 1 locomotive for 2022 would be a bachmann deltic prototype, although it is an old model now regarding todays standards just to get one for a good price was fantastic, the model also has been detailed up and weathered which makes it look like a fantastic model. In terms of rolling stock it would be some hornby pendolino coaches and some accurascale IIA biomass wagons, the best piece of rolling stock for me this year would be a rails dynamometer car which while again is second hand it’s an incredible coach with an incredible level of detail plus it will go very well with the mallard that I’m currently using in a project. Happy new year to you Dave.

Cheers. Nice selection of models you listed there. You should have contacted accurascale if the lettering was damaged. They could have tried to sort it for you. But if you’ve repaired it yourself, fair play to you. All the best.

@@DeanPark thanks Dave, some of the models I have got this year have been fantastic. Regarding my class 92 it didn’t arrive with the lettering damaged, I think it is my fault because I have to handle my locomotives a lot, I don’t have a proper layout so I can’t store it anywhere, most times with my models I’m placing them and taking them off the track by hand, I’m more than happy to do the repair mainly because 92022 is now out of stock and I imagine they don’t stock bodies as spares, plus a few days ago I fitted all the etched parts and managed to do that without getting glue all over the body, I have done a lot of transfers in my time so I’m confident I can repair this, I’m just annoyed that it’s an accurascale locomotive that has had this happen again, my deltic has had paint chip off through handling the model but like I say I don’t have the facilities to store my locomotives because I don’t have a proper layout as of yet.

What a great year for your layout, great progress in completing below the depot. I'm looking forward to the industrial scene planned! Regarding models of the year, I haven't received much although the highlights were probably some Dapol MJA Freightliner wagons and also some weathered Silver Bullets also from Dapol, they've both been really impressive and good value for money. I was hoping their 59 would have been out in time for the Warley show so I could have picked one up there, but I'll have to wait for it to appear in shops here in Oz instead. Looking at your review of your models though, here comes a bit of Hornby bashing, in comparison with the other models on your listing from Bachmann & Accurascale, Hornby are clearly kidding themselves and the paying customer for thinking that their offerings for diesel & electric models in particular are worthy of (excessive) premium prices, but then again people are buying the APT set or full rakes for the 91 so why should Hornby stop? I'm glad that Accurascale are hitting the mark for the most part with their locos though, hopefully Cavalex will do the same with their 56 next year as well as they look very impressive

Yes, sadly if you want an HST/mk3, class 91/mk4 and an apt it’s only Hornby who do them! They are certainly settling in as a second division manufacturer as the likes of accurascale chase down Bachmann’s dominance. I can see (once I’ve got all the HST’s/mk3’s I need) that my new additions won’t contain any hornby products at all. It’s going to be accurascale and bachmann going forward.

Hi Dave ill dont understand ive never seen an railway so clean no oil and rust on the layout ,the locos not even dirty BR was treble for cleaning ,engines running 24 hours a day never switch off my family and myself work on the railway 150 yrs plus colour lights got rust and overhead eletrics

Interesting, never saw the bachy 47 beating the deltic….I think the 47 front steps and snowploughs are a lazy throw back and enough to put me off at the price. I can’t much comment further as I’ve brought no models at all in 22….however I now have reserved an accurascale 50 for which I have high hopes
@DeanPark Жыл бұрын
I think the bachmann is a all round brilliant model, and it’s more robust to handle etc than the Deltic. The 47 does everything well. It’s the GTI of the model train would. It’s a great all rounder.

@21:36 APT. Hornby had better get their finger out and up the game play of future models as the competition out there is now putting over priced, under powered, nasty interior plastic units like this to shame 🤔…..AND it needs 3 sound decoders!!!!!! WTF! ☹️

I am wanting to buy my hubby a new controller as he has a Guagemaster Prodigy but it only has 20 loco functions. I am thinking of the Z21 by Roco and Fleichman. Is his a good controller or is there others that are better. It needs to go up to at least 28 loco functions as I bought him an Accurascale Deltic 55. Love your channel
@DeanPark Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks :-) The Z21 is a very competent controller. Very popular too. That should fulfill his needs with the functions etc. the ESU ecos is also excellent, I’ve owned one for a few years and it’s great to use, but not cheap! Hope this helps. Dave
