First of all, when to stop perform if people still want to hear their idols? Sinatra was critisized for it, even Rolling Stones were called old men 20-30 years ago. Of course, Dean could take one or two drinks, bur it was his heavy smoking which damaged his health too early and lung problems were the cause of his death, not alcohol. It was the medical cause of his death, not a destroyed liver or so. It is very simple. We may never see artists like Dean again. If he look tired on the last pictures I think it is understandable. He made the utmost of his life and will live forever as one of the most talented artists in the world ever Magnus from Sweden

Dean had only seven years left to live, this being 1988. A fair cry from his heyday of the sixties but still could sing even though he had early emphysema. Pictures of him closer to his his death were not good to see but for me his deterioration became understandable as I watched my own father suffer a long and painful death from the disease. A reasonably handsome, strong and upright man he withered away, twisted and in pain. Death was a blessing for him. I imagine Dean felt the same as the end drew closer.

He holds the mic closer to his mouth -- where it's supposed to be -- for those few seconds. I think he could still sing in the late 80's, even with the emphysema and host of other lung conditions, but he was clearly struggling the entire tour until it ended prematurely. Still, speaking directly into the mic let his full voice hit for a few seconds. Beautiful.

I can't necessarily blame Frank for trying to get Dean back on his feet again. He'd become so dependent on prescription drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol by that time it was essentially killing him, and the passing of his son didn't help! Another factor was the tour itself: he didn't like performing in the massive stadiums that Frank and Sammy insisted on playing in. You can even tell here he doesn't seem very comfortable on the stage surrounded by all those people. Long story short, I'm certain Frank had the right idea trying to get Dean "back out" again, but in the long run, Dean's heart wasn't really in it anymore. Rest In Peace Dean, Frank and Sammy. I loved him for as long as I can remember, just hearing him sing, I would feel so light and happy, now I’m watching him on the internet, just a few years before he passed, the pain of losing his son and cancer, he couldn’t have lived much longer even if he hadn’t list his son, I notice he shuffles when he walks , a sign of the end, his mouth is changing but he’s still cool, a bit rocky but he’s in so much pain and in his seventies, God only gave us seventy something to live anyways, in the bible it says to age into the eighties is considered great. The seventies are not considered to young to die, I only know a few that lived into their early eighties, and they suffer too much to call that life with quality, I’d rather pass by my mid seventies, but with the Covid who knows, I still might bury my kids. I don’t want to be here, I want to be with Jesus 😢

I saw the Oakland show & it was great to finally be able to The Rat Pack in person. I'm a big Sinatra fan but love all the fellas. Most of the problem I saw & heard that night was the sound system PA feedback & the audience. People complained about the sound & started to boo Dino! He made a joke about it saying, well, ya should have bought better seats. It was funny, typical Dean, & they booed even worse. Frank was the man in charge, Frank Sinatra. Sam was a fantastic performer at any age. Dean was funny & charming as ever. They were all class. Unfortunately, many of the audience wanted to play dress-up hipster & just didn't get it. Bless you up in heaven, Frank, Dean & Sammy.

I saw this show in Oakland, CA and he was booed there, too. A ticket was $50, a big deal in 1988. A story went out that Dean tossed a lit cigarette into the audience, but that was never proven. After that show, Frank chewed Dean out for singing badly. Dean, who never wanted to participate to begin with, had his valet pack up, and had his doctor announce Dean was ill. Frank held back his temper and told the press, "Mr. Martin doesn't like to work." Dean coasted on until 1991 before retiring.

This just shows it's very hard to go back. Dean Martin was a superstar but there was only a shell of a man left here. Sinatra must have been crazy to think Dean could pull this off. Maybe a few TV specials would have been a better idea,

Got to give it to him for looking the same, ageless, for almost his entire adult life other then pictures I’ve seen of him as a teenager and here. He looked the same, like forever, with the exception of from here till he died, I could never tell how old he was , that’s really lucky, I look so different today then I did five years ago, 😪

He did it all. Even Jerry Lewis complimented Dean for taking all the slaps because Jerry got all the laughs. The two of them were the biggest act for 10 years! Dean should not have had to take the back seat the whole time or most of it. But, he sang his songs so great.....a natural, and Dean made fun of his singing too. A very big heart, but it was so broken with the death of his Son. He only lasted maybe a week and Liza worked herself into the Act to take his place. Such a Professional on State.

The smoothest, easy-going crooner in the history of the world. So mellow and melodious.

Thank u so much for posting this , I have been a fan all my life , unfortunately he never came to Australia to perform it’s unfortunate when an artist like him does not travel the world.
