Dear Leica My M11 D BROKE
I pre-ordered the Leica M11-D on day of launch from B&H Photo. While I was waiting one became available on LeicaCameraUSA.com and I purchased it right away. I was so excited to get the camera, I made a video the same day I received it. While I was working on the video, the camera glitched and became unresponsive.
Needless to say I was a bit heartbroken but knew that Leica would take care of this issue. Sure enough, they didn't disappoint! I had a replacement camera within the same week. Thanks Leica NJ for the fast and professional service!

of course you get the great customer service but i get a broken m11d and i have to wait after 3 repair attempts for them to give me a replacement such bullshit I swear

How is your replacement M11-D holding up so far after a couple of months?

It's been perfect, no problems at all. But, I have not put many miles on it.

Another channel I follow he has sent in his M11 for repairs 7 or 8 times at this point. It seems leica is the most unreliable camera manufacturer right now. I just don’t understand how Leica users put up with it and aren’t screaming about the unreliability of these cameras.

If this was any other brand, the photography community would rip them apart. I’m picking up my copy soon, and this scares me. I’ve had my M11 freeze, lock up on me. The amount I’ve spent on Leica is enough to purchase a car. Lenses as much as main stream flagship camera bodies.

@@camerafusionit hasn’t locked or froze recently, but it’s still in the back of my mind. I’m actually thinking of switching to the Q3, It makes sense. Weather sealed, great build, fantastic lens, macro and video modes. Idk lol, great video as always.

What SD card where you using with it, if any? I read somewhere that the M11 might be very picky with SD cards.

Leica USA handled that very well. Problems happen with all brands, all products. The more niche and specialized the greater the likelihood of an issue. Very glad you had such great service. I buy all my Leica gear through Tim Lei with a significant discount. I haven’t had a problem thankfully but Tim does promise to handle it with Leica if I do.

Great to see your issue got resolved so quickly! Would have been different, if they were out of stock, but since the D is an niche camera with a high price tag they still have stock. Happy for you and hope you won't see any further issues on this camera. My Q3 43 for now is without any issues. Happy shooting mate! :)

Not sure what you mean by "it's the first of its kind." There have been three previous iterations of this model: the '60', the M-D Typ 262, and the M10-D. Sorry for your problems. I've personally decided against getting either an M10 (of any kind) or M11 (of any kind). May get an M-D Typ 262 - the only iteration free of the freezing/lock up issues. That or wait a few years and see if an M12-D comes along - and by then they are free of the freeze/lock-up issues. I really find the whole thing deplorable. Leica appears to be doing nothing about this - or at the very least keeping silent on the whole thing.

I've always lusted for a D series M. But after thinking about it, I'll stick to my M10-P for shooting digital. The D is too reliant on the Leica app how long will Leica support the camera via app updates? At least with the regular M, you can still use it if the screen is damaged or even replace the screen. I don't see them lasting 50+ yrs like the film Leicas. My M2 still works great and I love that it's not tethered to anything. Unless they stop producing film. 🤣

@@IDaumI you can actually do pretty much everything within the camera itself using the function button, thumbwheel and the digital display. Although the app makes everything easier, that’s for sure. I agree with you, they probably won’t last like the film cameras. I’ve got an M3 from 1957… looks and functions like new. It’ll outlast me I’m sure 😂

@@camerafusion Oh, As long as you can still shoot it or format cards on the camera then maybe I'll keep looking for an M10-D only because of aesthetics of the terrible ISO dial and thumb lever.

My Leica MD 262 had the same issue, it was a faulty SD card...!

@ Actually it was a SanDisk 32 GB card that the manual recommended. The card was faulty and bought another (same brand 32 GB) which worked. You can also format the card incorrectly and cause the same problem...!

Leica QC has really been disappointing lately.

It seems that it’s all software related. My other Leica’s have been working flawlessly. I did have issues with the m11-p freezing up in the beginning but haven’t had any problems for 8 months or so. I think they got that issue fixed with updates.

Yeah, I meant to say a new release. I’d imagine the firmware is different than the other M11’s just due to the operation of the digital display and no screen. I probably should’ve put the beer down before making this video 😆

Even with the few problems I’ve had, I love them! Best user experience of all of my cameras. It’s not even close!
