Thanks so much for this. My kid wanted to play with his band - I don't know how he could do it without this vid. He's got small hands so he removed some of the left-hand octave dance stuff but if you keep syncopation on the left-hand with a single note it sounds close.
@ChazWick45 жыл бұрын
That's awesome to hear!! The left hand octaves are not necessary, especially when playing with a band. Rock on!

Best piano tutorial I have seen, in depth and in key. Was trying to learn by ear but could only figure out the chords. This is extremely helpful, thanks!

Yo. Thank you. I’ve almost got this down and it’s really fun to play. Been so long since you posted this but had to thank you anyway. The solo is still giving me trouble and I’m using too much pedal but damn is this fun to play. That part of the chorus with the octaves is sweet
@ChazWick47 жыл бұрын
After getting to know the song better, It seems I've made my left hand bass-line more complicated than it needs to be. In the intro, don't worry about the left-hand "octave dance". And in the verse, during the Bb7 or Bbsus2, you can just play steady 8th notes instead of the occasional 16th notes. Keep rocking out, piano gods!
@tiffany.Elizabeth.6 жыл бұрын
I love that part though! And thanks for posting the sheet music!
@steveloomis12 жыл бұрын
I think you're selling your left hand short here. It's harder, but it's pretty righteous. The sheet music has the simple version, which I think is a shame.

I really suck at piano but I wanted to see this because I found this song to be really tricky to play, and sir you've made such a great job showing it off. Thanks! By the way, does it have a weird time signature or something? I'm not really good at figuring out that stuff...
@ChazWick47 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mateo! It's in 4/4, but there is an odd amount of measures. Most 4/4 songs have an even 4 measures, this one appears to have 3. There is also a measure of 2/4 in the chorus, on the Ab when he says "holding on". Hope that helps!

oh, that helps a lot! Thank you so much!

Wouldn't it be more convenient to call the accidentals by their flats instead of sharps, seeing how it frequently modulates from F major to F minor (Ab major)?

Yup, that's a mistake on my end

I still don't get that little beat in between your left and right hand that you couldn't explain
@eliasakainyah73666 жыл бұрын
Same my dude
@ChazWick46 жыл бұрын
Yes, let me further explain. Make the left hand pattern steady 8th notes (instead of whatever the hell I did XD) and make the right hand chord rhythm a quarter note followed by four dotted 8th notes. | 1/4 1/8. 1/8. 1/8. 1/8. | If you understand 16th note rhythm (one-ee-and-ah-two-ee-and-ah-three-ee-and-ah-four-ee-and-ah), I'll capitalize every chord hit. ONE-ee-and-ah-TWO-ee-and-AH-three-ee-AND-ah-four-EE-and-ah
@lochlantadhg38776 жыл бұрын
thanks dude
@maryamkhalifa10875 жыл бұрын
I nailed the intro, but I’m trying to learn the verse and I just have no idea how to use the same rhythm you’re using. This might be too advanced for me :( I’m upset because I was really looking forward fo learn this :((
@ChazWick45 жыл бұрын
Hi, I seem to have improvised the verse a little too much. You can definitely keep the left hand steady instead of the off-beat rhythms. There's sheet music here if you need it flat.io/score/5a1b64ada043526b6b682865-dear-life-beck

Really like the tutorial. Any way you could go through the second and third parts more slowly? I can't keep up with you. Also, do you know where I can get the sheet music?
@ChazWick47 жыл бұрын
Apologies for rushing. Try slowing down the speed of the video to .75, pausing/rewinding whenever you need to. This song wont come to you right away unless you're a pro. It took me couple of weeks to get down. I could make sheet music if enough people request it!
@hanstaagen20667 жыл бұрын
MY GOODNESS this was a dandy tutorial but if you could maybe elaborate more on the solo. I had trouble knowing how the ending of the solo went
@ChazWick47 жыл бұрын
Yeah during 11:08 through 11:28 I seemed to have been distracted and lost my place in mid-recording, and I had to cut out some dead space and errors. Apologies, and just watch the hands carefully! When I play the solo all the way through, you could slow down the video to .75 speed for a slow motion version

is it selfish of me that I want the sheet music? I'd gladly put it together for you after I learn it.
