I remember being in high school when Blue Ivy was born. I was in the process of going natural and all the sh*t the ADULTS in my life had to say about Blue Ivy was so disturbing and discouraging. I remember being so upset about it and even calling my MOM out about it. He handled this poorly, point blank period. Was the outrage and criticism genuine? Maybe not. A lot of the people calling him out were probably the same people talking sh*t along with him but wrong is wrong. The way Blue’s hair looks now being longer and a bit looser and more palatable is definitely why people are giving her praise for it now. As someone with 4c hair, I wear it stretched and braided out because people respond to my hair so much better that way. It’s frustrating but it’s what we have to deal with. Beyoncé won’t respond but I’m sure she’s taking notes. Shoot the reason we’ve been getting all this problack music from her over all these years lately is probably because of Blue and the backlash.

That's why I've learned to keep my expectations low when it comes to "my own" people. Except I don't even consider the "community" a community because it's too dysfunctional, self-hating, hypocritical, and toxic to be a real community. So, my community is a blended group of folks who I've never known to express such thoughts. Meanwhile, my affinity with other black folks gets weaker and weaker. I love being a black woman, and I don't want to be anything else. But the "community" is too poisonous. So, I'm just doing me, and if anyone is bigoted against black folks, I'll check them. And I will positively represent black women in whatever I produce/do. But I'm too tired for anything more. He's an example of how even some men who know what it feels like to be discriminated against (i.e., gay men) can still have the same mindset as misogynist cis-gendered straight black men.
