Hi I'm Theo.
I play bass, often poorly. I love effects and started this channel as a way to document what I've owned.
On this channel we look at bass effects pedals, Bass VI, pedal combinations and getting specific tones.
Go check out my other channel where I focus on using effects designed for guitar on bass:

Theo! I loved seeing the pink noise generator in action as you turned the knobs! That was interesting 👍🏻 your fuzz pedal doesn’t give a shit about your clean signal. Gotta have a little noise at least… that’s rock & roll!

Cheers! Yeah I finally worked out how to do the pink noise in real time and I think it’s much better than the static images.

The real time tone shaping was so cool. That's a real upgrade in the pedal review format. Great work, Theo

great review that's actually more valuable than those glorified product demos by more established youtubers. subscribed.

Looks and sound are pretty rad! I particularly like it with the fuzz control around noon. Is it as noisy at that setting? Great video again my friend. 👌

I’m not sure but I don’t think so. At full gain it’s very compressed and I think that contributes to the noise but I didn’t notice it as much at lower gain. I’ll plug it in tomorrow and let you know

I had the Fuzz War, but sold it after a while. It didn't gave me the sounds I was looking for; mostly too thin and nasal for my liking. Perhaps this one is more suitable for bass.

I definitely think so. I’ve had the original Fuzz War a few times and I didn’t think it had quite enough low end and the mid scoop was in a place I didn’t like. At least this had the blend and control over where the mid scoop is.

The tone section looks cool... I prefer a gated bias or octave up type fuzz though. Is there internal trim for bias?
@TheoAndHisPedals
@TheoAndHisPedals 18 күн бұрын
There’s definitely an element of octave up, I can hear how it mangles up chords on the Bass VI but I couldn’t find any further controls internally.

Nice! I dig showing the frequency spectrum and if you’re gonna get nerdy with it then prepare for the nerdy questions lol 🤓. 1.What was your fx/recording chain, 2.is it a fuzz that wants to be first in the chain, 3.does rolling off the volume clean up for that cleaner fuzz lead tone or any other timbres, and 4.are you reamping the pink noise in or going line in? It sounds more guttural than a Muff and the sorta tilt/notch eq in the tonestack is interesting with the blend. I found a fuzz that seems to be playing really well with guitar, bass, and bass VI. I’m always curious to see what else is out there though. So definitely more from them and I like that you also included the bass VI in the demo. Actually a video on pedals you’ve found pair well with the bass vi would be rad! Since it seems to straddle the between and all

Bumping this because I often ask these questions to myself when I watch pedal demos

So: 1. FX chain for the general recording bits (where you see me play the pedal): Squier CV Jazz Bass/Squier CV Bass VI - > Bass War -> Radial Pro DI -> audio interface (BOSS Gigcaster 8) -> Two Notes Audio Genome VST (amp/cab sim) - this is then blended with the DI signal and the DI signal has a HPF at 31hz / LPF at 6kHz. there is some light compression on the master and limiting to reduce the largest volume peaks. Previously i was just mic'ing my amp but doing it this way but i think that this way both represents the sound of the pedal pretty accurately and actually sounds better than my amp or a straight DI. Whist there is some colouration i would say its probably less that running into your average preamp/amp/cab etc, in my opinion. 2. Not sure, i did the video as soon as i got the pedal (literally you're hearing me play it for the first time) and not had time to try it with a buffer before it. On previous videos I would run a loop from a Boss RC-3 into it and twiddle the knobs, that gave both a realtime demonstration of how the controls work but also, as the Boss is buffered, would also show if there are any ill effects (no pun intended) from it being downstream from buffers/active electronics. I did think about doing it here but just wasnt sure whether its worth showing/whether people cared. 3. Not tried it, next time i plug it in, ill give it a go. 4. Pink noise is generated in Reaper, coming out of line level speaker output on my interface, hitting a Palmer Dacapo Reamp box, hitting the pedal and then back into the interface via into a separate channel in Reaper which has the SPAN VST.

@@TheoAndHisPedals Awesome, thanks for the detailed reply! There’s so many ways to go about this and the looper pedal is definitely super handy for deep diving into the range of a pedal or to shootout a couple pedals. Also helpful to not have to lug your guitar to the coffee shop when buying pedals from the classifieds lol if it lets you save loops. Definitely share your future findings of the pedal! Curious, what is the reason for the 6kHz LPF?
@TheoAndHisPedals

@@AkaTenguso I find the straight DI sound of fuzz/drives absolutely awful. I hear too many demos of people going straight into a DI with a fuzz and it just sounds a mess to me and I don’t feel it does a good job of representing the pedal itself as most people play through an amp, or have some sort of amp sim. Even if they don’t, a straight DI signal would still be eq’d by a sound engineer. What the 6khz lpf does is almost act like a cab simulator, but without any other eq colouring. So it just takes out the nasty high treble that is usually rolled off by a real speaker
