Don't get into a relationship for that reason, you will END UP like the bride. The right person will come along once you start authentically loving yourself. Another person is not the answer and cannot save you. If you struggle to love yourself, consider making healthy changes and that will boost your confidence.

love is just proximity. soul mates don't exist. theyre literally just lies to rationalize the that depressing fact, whether realized consciously or not. but that's okay, being happy doesnt have a solution, there isn't an answer. It's a life long difficult question that you just have to desperately try to power through; decades, seconds, instances, sudden infinitudes of long division and quadratics, 2+2 and imaginary numbers. You don't need the right answer, you just have to show your work. and that will always be enough

Does anyone else see the parallels between this song and the novel Wuthering Heights? The female lead is called Cath, she marries a man who is well-intentioned although she does not truly love him. It's brilliant. She really only marries Edgar because she thinks her love for Heathcliff won't be accepted by society, therefore, due to the pressures of society, she marries a man she does not love.

What your special someone is going through is not uncommon. Sometimes we teach ourselves lessons in this fashion. Having gone through something like this more than once myself, it is quite painful to either slip away or, worse yet, watch someone you love deeply slip away absent the self-awareness you wished they had about their actions and feelings. Sometimes, we cannot explain this dynamic to our loved ones and have to teach ourselves our own lessons about life and love.

One of those rare music videos that actually tells the story of the song instead of just making something that looks cool or that uses vague symbolism. I like it. When Gibbard sings "you said your vows and closed the door on so many men who would have loved you more" I think of the couple closing the door of their car and driving away from the church while the guy Cath loves is watching them go and Cath stares back from the car.

I remember listening to this song while running down Santa Monica beach in 2010 after finding out my husband had an emotional affair with someone, deep in my own head and thinking about what I should do. We got married so young. And I was still so young. And this song reached into my soul and pulled out the feeling I had that I might spend the rest of my life missing out on the life I wanted more out of some sense of duty to stick by the first person I'd fallen for. It gave me the perspective to leave. Some part of me knows I made the decision already by the end of the first time I heard this song. And then I became who I needed and wanted to be, and then I eventually found the one I was meant to be with. I still feel like that college version of me being held in comfort by this song, like future me is looking back at past me through this song and nodding, "yes, you're going to be happy if you leave, it will be ok, I promise".

The song echoes the book "Wuthering Heights". The song (and book) are about a girl marrying the "right" man, who will take care of her and give her the dream of a better life, but she's in love with a guy who's broke/poorly-mannered.

Existential loneliness is that which feels internally that love is not a lie. When in fact the man in this case knows that his love was never his but will never get over his ability to sequester her heart. For he believes it was real and what she get's after him is only second rate.
