I love these DM rankings. This might be the one I've discovered the most new bands from. You make some crazy decisions in your rankings at times but for the most part I agree. Great video. I'll definitely be spinning Azarth, Sceptic, Hypnos, Skyfire, Pyaemia and Eternal Tears Of Sorrow

Rebaelliun, Damnable, Devilyn, Fate of Icarus, Deranged, Cadaver, Dementor, Iniquity, Nephasth, Illdisposed, Pungent Stench, Benediction, Mental Horror, Akercocke, God Dethroned, Altar, Vomitory, Aeternus, Diabolic, Murder Corporation, Marytr AD, Abscess, & Deeds of Flesh all released good to exceptional DM albums in 2001. Do yourselves a favor & check them out! Most of these are total classics that should be on this list. If you want more, go to Discogs & filter by style & year. Also in 2001, one of my favorite metalcore albums by Maharahj.

From Wisdom to Hate is so good. It has this super sludgy feeling and the lyrical content is very interesting. NOTHING beats that drop in The Quest for Equilibrium. I feel like people might sleep on it because it's not totally off the wall insanity like Obscura and doesn't quite have that bombastic wall of sound like Colored Sands.

2001 was another great year for death metal. There's some great debuts and some classics in brutal death metal and melodic death metal show up here. Out of the albums on this list I've heard, here would be my ranking: S - Arch Enemy - Wages of Sin, Pyaemia - Cerebral Cereal, Gorguts - From Wisdom to Hate, Psycroptic - The Isle of Disenchantment, Opeth - Blackwater Park A+ - Blood Red Throne - Monument of Death, Aborted - Engineering the Dead, Brodequin - Festival of Death, Disavowed - Perceptive Deception, Gojira - Terra Incognita A - Deeds of Flesh - Mark of the Legion, Amon Amarth - The Crusher, Funebrarum - Beneath the Columns of Abandoned Gods, Sinister - Creative Killings B - Skinless - Foreshadowing Our Demise, Mortician - Domain of Death, Soilwork - A Predator's Portrait, Gorgasm - Bleeding Profusely, Eternal Tears of Sorrow - A Virgin and a Whore, Kataklysm - Epic: The Poetry of War, Bolt Thrower - Honour Valour Pride, Jungle Rot - Dead and Buried C - Azarath - Demon Seed D - Six Feet Under - True Carnage, Deicide - In Torment in Hell

Hey man, if you get a chance, definitely check out The Project Hate MCMXCIX. I was hoping you'd hit on their 'When We Are Done Your Flesh Will be Ours' on this video, but oh well haha. Definitely what I feel is a unique take on death metal mixed with industrial, but (usually) not repetitive despite the long songs. Maybe you'll hit on 'Hate Dominate Congregate Eliminate' for 2003! Love these videos man, appreciate the new recommendations!
@doomusrlc5 ай бұрын
Also, if you do end up covering them for 2003 and 2005, there were technically 2 albums released in 2005, but 'Armageddon March Eternal' is the actual 2005 album. 'Deadmarch' is technically from 1998, but went unreleased until 2005 (a lot of the album got picked apart and used on their first few albums. The band actually released MP3s of it a couple years earlier but then it got an official CD release in 2005)

Great list!!! I need to listen to some of the records here, but also, trying not to be a douchebag, I highly recommend you a couple 2001 jewels were left aside: - Anata - Dreams of Death and Dismay. An absolute tech death killer, a rotten party of nasty riffs. - Akercocke - The Goat of Mendes. A vicious death/black riffs tempest to ooze some 5474.nic fellings and twisted feti.5hes.
@MetalTrenches5 ай бұрын
I listened to that Akercocke and considered adding it but it’s almost just its own thing
@erikdead82905 ай бұрын
@@MetalTrenches it is indeed! They somehow balance the amount of br00tal death and cold, twisted black, with some prog and gothic flourishes so well, it's hard to categorize, yet, they only get better after that.

The Revenge Ride by Hypnos is definitely an underrated album. It is not very original, but it is executed perfectly with great riffing and ideas, truly a great album. I own this Sinister album, and I tried, really tried to like it, but did not manage at the time, I was just impressed that it was a woman grunting that low even though the vocals sound a bit "suffocated". Maybe I should give it another spin, just out of curoisity. Regarding Wages of Sin it is an absolute Melo-death masterpiece, but it has been released in 2002 if i am not mistaken.

I think Terra Incognita is, as a first album, more or less self produced, nothing less than perfection AND new (and a new way of being "death metal"). Besides Blackwater Park (from a much more experienced band then), it's just way above all the other music mentioned here, to be honest.

There needs to be a new name for melodic death metal. Melodic death metal isn't death metal. It doesn't have death metal riffs. It doesn't have death metal vocals. It doesn't have death metal drumming. Melodic death metal is heavy metal riffs, mixed with black metalish vocals, and thrash metal drumming.
@The_JustJoshing5 ай бұрын
Fully agree. Most of it just sounds like metalcore without the clean vocals or breakdowns. Some of them even have clean vocals. I would say The Black Dahlia Murder is the only melodic death metal band that actually sounds like _melodic_ death metal.
@michaelsantangelo61925 ай бұрын
@@The_JustJoshing there are exceptions, but for the most part, melodic death metal has no brutality in the riffs, no deep guttural vocals, and no blast beats.
